Just turned on the SAG awards. Gorgeous dresses so far: Helen Mirren, Christina Applegate and Felicity Huffman.
What are the blue ribbons for?
Always interesting to see who can speak intelligently (or at the very least coherently) without a pre-written script (is that redundant?)

Sara, the frost ferns are fascinating, and the Kaylee looking into the woods one is very Nathanial Wyeth-ish.
Julia, but cooooooooold!

I just saw the pilot from On Demand. I am not enjoying Eric Stoltz as much as Sue is; Esai Morales, however, has sucked me right in. He has this completely smooth face, and the most perfect hair--you'd almost think he's a robot. But somehow his utterly flat plane gives off waves of emotion. Me likey. Question: Is his son Willy supposed to be William Adama as a child, or William Adama's father? I wasn't quite sure based on the timeline. Yes, this was my question. But I'd say it's definitely Admiral Adama. Timeline is 50 years before BSG. Kid is 11. So either Adama was 61 (EJO will be 63 in Feb) or the kid would have to have had a kid at maybe 22 and Adama I suppose could then be 51. But 51 and has his own 2 grown sons and that whole history of service? Unlikely. But I missed the explanation for the thing with the gloves. Which, btw they then were not wearing at the sporting event.
And young Willie is so very very like my 13 year old nephew. In appearance they could be brothers -- brothers with a close resemblance. Gus's hair is a bit curlier (he is half Greek) but size, build, coloring. But in affect they are even more similar. Gus would act exactly like that kid. Very close and affectionate (hugging his grandmother) but quiet and obedient. Semi-adultish in asking questions but also very self-contained. And at the sports thing -- so exactly like Gus! The wearing of the gloves was a mourning thing. He said something about keeping those in mourning from interacting or coming in contact with the world, or something like that. I like the way he phrased it, and it sounded like a nice cultural tradition.

It is 0440 in the morning and I am (still) awake. This isn't terribly helpful.

We had guessed the blue ribbons were to show support for Haiti relief efforts. SAG Awards on TwitterI want to be Betty White when I grow up. She's 88 and still sharp as a tack. And Kevin Bacon had the best shout out to his wife and family. Gosh, what a peach of a guy. Good morning, S'cubies! Thanks for the fine opener, Onjel! Very appropriate after watching Caprica. I mean. How cool was that?

Wondering if Sandra Bullock will get grief for the shoulder pads. I thought her dress was lovely -- liked the colors and the cut. Also, she and Betty White seemed to really like each other.
Drew Barrymore really should write a speech ahead of time. [Jon Hamm doesn't particularly impress me outside of character, either. Nor was I fond of his suit.]
Looks like Mariska Hargitay's reign has been ended. I expect Juliana (who also did a nice job of thanking her parents) to get the award for several years running. Is the SAG somewhat of a popularity contest?
Liked Nicole Kidman's dress.
I missed all the comedy awards at the beginning.

Monnie, would you mind creating that thread? You always do such a lovely job.

How cool was that? The sound of Betty White's voice is like comfort food for my ears; we only got the local NBC affiliate for most of my childhood, and I often went down for my nap hearing her dulcet murmur. Julia, OK, so: out of bed for just over an hour, shouldn't I also be awake?

Ah - am making big pot of pasta fagioli, just like my mom used to make. Have not made it in so long, but I just got a hankering. I think i am going to make lunch all week from it. YUMMY! It's a perfect day for soup-making - chilly, the sky completely gray with clouds, some cold, drizzly rain falling all day. But in here, it smells like mom's kitchen.

I have been thinking about pulling my slow cooker out of storage. I hardly ever use it, but I'm getting in the mood to try it out. I even have a little recipe book especially for slow cookers. Thinking about trying the swiss steak. Wish me luck! I can't do it today though, I have to go work at the 'brary. This day is going to drag.

How cool was that? Caprica pilot was awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Sometime in early March is when James Marsters shows up, so that will be cool. And I believe Patton Oswalt (who was as bit wasted on his last Dollhouse appearance) will be on the show as well. Nice!! Love your avatar, Karen!
