Ah - am making big pot of pasta fagioli, just like my mom used to make. Have not made it in so long, but I just got a hankering. I think i am going to make lunch all week from it. YUMMY! It's a perfect day for soup-making - chilly, the sky completely gray with clouds, some cold, drizzly rain falling all day. But in here, it smells like mom's kitchen. Save me some leftovers! I have been thinking about pulling my slow cooker out of storage. I hardly ever use it, but I'm getting in the mood to try it out. I even have a little recipe book especially for slow cookers. Thinking about trying the swiss steak. Wish me luck! I can't do it today though, I have to go work at the 'brary. This day is going to drag. Good luck! Also. crockpot365.blogspot.com/Crock pots are da bomb, especially when it comes to making stock and cooking beans. In the past couple of months I've gone from having 1 to 4 crockpots (my original 2 qt one that Heather gave a couple of years ago, a 7 qt one I had to get for Chili Night, the .5 qt "little dipper" that came with it, and the 5 qt one that my mom had promised me and finally gave me when I swung by their place during Christmas). It might seem a little excessive, but I really can see myself using all of them regularly.

Also, I have a good teriyaki beef recipe that I make in the crockpot, then mix with broccoli and serve over rice. Jim uses it a lot to make bean soap recipes. I'm going to make split pea soup sometime this week.

Here are 44 pics of SAG dresses. There are many like and only a few I really dislike. I like looking at them before reading the Fug girls' take. And here is one of Stana Katic (from Castle) who didn't make it into the TVGuide 44.

Watched The Prestige for the first time last night. I had intended to go see it when it came out, but didn't. What an intricate puzzle-box of a movie! And the cast was fascinating. How often can you see Wolverine, Batman, Alfred, the Black Widow, Gollum, and the Thin White Duke together?
This is one I'll be thinking about for awhile.

Batman and Wolverine are so good in this movie. I saw it more than once, and even knowing the "twist" it was still very enjoyable.

Definitely one that bears a second (or third, or fourth) watching. Nolan employed the elements (Pledge, Turn, Prestige) more than once in his direction, and certain elements foreshadowed later events very well. I'd like to watch it sometime with a director's commentary playing.

They usually talk about how hard it was to get a certain shot, or something like that, rather than the themes of the movie.

Baby development is awesome.
Two days of rice cereal - yesterday was mostly "play", but today she clearly knew it was "food" and ate most of it up with far less mess.
Also, she's sleeping from 8:45 to 6:00, eating, and sleeping again until 7:00 pretty much consistently, AND just this weekend has decided that naps might be okay, too. Plus, she loves her Ergo carrier, and is now big enough to ride on my back rather than my chest, so I can actually DO stuff while carrying her.
BTW, re: the sleeping? I do know we're incredibly lucky.

Speaking of eating.... (Yay for Emily's first success in solid eating!) I'm watching the delightful Julie and Julia. But I'm thinking it's not the best thing to be watching while trying to shed a few pounds because now I've got an itch to make a chocolate pie and some bruchetta.

I remember my son started sleeping through the night very quickly, but he also stopped taking naps during the day at a very young age . . probably around 14 months or 15 months, when he started walking. He just could not nap. He would go-go-go, and even insist, around bedtime, that he wasn't tired (though tell-tale crankiness made it obvious he was). Anyhow, I would let him stay up playing with a toy or something, and soon he wouldn't be able to keep his eyes open. He'd drop like a rock, and I could pick him up and carry him into bed without waking him at all. In fact, I don't think much of anything could have woken him up, once he dropped.

You should be sure to check out the book it's based on; it's an excellent read, and the ending is very different.
