It is a bit quiet around here. Without new canon, and with us having been here long long long, we're pretty much mostly saying Hi! I'm being a human! You still being a human? Yaay! All good! Which, you know, cool, but not exactly new episodes weekly.
I continue to wait for 3D life people to reply to my emails, or in one case to reply to more than the first sentence of my emails. Until other people do their thing, I can do nothing. This has been the case since... 2014? At least? So.
Nobody wants to work for me, I can't figure out why, I would have to pay a bunch of moneys to even attempt recruiting again and even if nobody applied for the job the bunch of moneys would be gone, the place reckons I need someone to sign a thing before said bunch of money can be spent, the someone didn't replied to that bit of the email. With nobody working for me I leave the house... less. And even when I do, not so much happens.
like, if I did a con report for the last Torchwood convention I was at, it would go:
There were many humans! In a room! Mostly laughing! The people on the stage said mostly the same things as all the other years I have met them since the show ended for them! It was fun!
It does remain somewhere between impressive and *facepalm* that I have been seeing these people at conventions since ... probably 2007? And the cast are still telling new to me stories about John Barrowman's fruit and nuts. New in specifics, but the general theme is by now familiar. ... and kind of hilarious, mostly, yes.
There was also the bit where someone asked "What is your favourite swear word" and Gareth was having great fun answering that, loudly, with a word on the very short list of words I will not repeat... and then realised his wife and tiny child had at some point joined us at the back of the hall. "Hello darling, Daddy said a bad word!" was probably the highlight LOL of the con, for everyone except GDL.
It's fun that the Torchwood cast are all big James Marsters fans. When asked what guest star they'd want to bring back he's their answer. And then they have many good things to say about him.
I've noticed though, the longer I've been in a fandom, the more I mostly want to sit down with the actors and have a tea and a chat about how things are going with them, how are their kids, how's life been treating them? I mean, I know there's hundreds of people there all brought together by liking the same stories, so a few behind the scenes stories are probably more what they're there for, but like my other convention friends the actors become people I see maybe once or twice a year, and I just want to ask ordinary people things. Only it's odd to go ask about people's kids while they're on stage talking about their characters. But you usually hear about them anyway, sort of around the edges, like when they get asked about favourite movies or what they've been watching lately and the ones with the tiny kids all compare favourites from the kids channels.
... actually I never remember to ask ordinary people things of the convention friends I do have conversations with. Conversation is not my strong point.
But that's maybe why I got less good at doing con reports. The guests go from being them people on stage telling stories about stories, while I listen raptly, to people I'm mostly just glad to see are still doing nicely, and will see at the parties.
Still being a human? Yaay! All good!

Still being a human? Yaay! All good! Becca, I like the way you think. And I totally get that. That's part of the reason I've never gone to cons. For me, I'd rather talk one-on-one with people, whether they are fans of the same things as I am, or the actors/writers. That was one of the most excellent things at the conference I was at last year. Janes Espenson was there, talking about her web series "Husbands," and I got to ask her a question about writing. She actually said, "Good question!" and said some very insightful things about character development and the writing process. That's the kind of conversations I love to have.

Which, you know, cool, but not exactly new episodes weekly. This question I can answer: Yes, I am still being human. And yes, yay!! Strangeness. I hope you find someone soon. His "fruit and nuts?" Does this mean what I think it means? And there are lots of stories about his fruit and nuts? How much can there be to say? Hmmmm. Sounds like a good laugh - it's always good to take a quick look around before loudly shouting words on the short list. People do seem to enjoy James as a costar - I've never heard anything except that he is friendly and professional, etc. Though when he had that band, I know there was some bad blood there, between him and his band members. He's a much better actor than singer though, so maybe that explains it. Agree. Would much rather have simple chats with the writers, actors, or other crew members. The only time I did anything like that was when Adam Busch joined Jan, Monnie, Wendy and I, at our table, after his band performed in Louisville. We didn't talk about BtVS hardly at all though, he mostly was fascinated by Jan's really amazing stories of her time in Greenwich Village in the 60s, being on the ground floor and personally knowing musicians like Bob Dylan. I do remember that Jan was wearing a "Joss Whedon is my Master" shirt, and he kind of frowned and laughed at that. But that was it. I remember someone, a long time ago, asked us all, here in the main thread, what we would talk about to Joss if we had him to ourselves for an hour or two . . . whoever it was . . . maybe s'cubie deborah? . . . had this fantasy of sitting next to him on a plane, so he would be captive for several hours, and had all kinds of questions she wanted to ask. I can't remember what I said I would want to talk to him about . . . I suppose it would mostly be about writing, and I would LOVE to know what his plans for the last season of AtS actually were, before it ended prematurely. Hey, not a bad con report. All good!

if you google search John Barrowman fruit and nuts radio you will find why I use that phrase.

The Big New Thing with the fannish is Tumblr; it is death to discussion, and in general more adapted to posting images than text.
Metafilter is beta-ing a new TV discussion subsite called Fanfare; so far it's just Game of Thrones and Mad Men discussions. (Metafilter has a $5 registration fee that requires PayPal, so I am read-only there).
Facebook is just weird.
And the entire world would be better with something more like BtVS/AtS again, but I suspect we won't see it.
Julia, who suspects the extremely binary nature of politics and pop culture right now makes it hard to bring people together.

A strange guy, and an even stranger reaction to his antics. Also, funny.
I am glad none of my coworkers ever used this method of cheering me up, though.

And, in news of my clan: Allison has decided to accept the offer to attend Columbia. HUGE commitment of time and money. Master of International Affairs, and if I go, I would intend to concentrate in Human Rights and specialize in International Media Advocacy and Communications (concentrations plus specializations are columbia's lingo distinguishing tiers of things). I think she plans on spending her life at non-profits. Maybe even going back to International Justice Mission. Very cool!

Just wanted to share some good news - I saw my endocrinologist today. My remaining half-thyroid is doing its job, and the nodule isn't any bigger. So I'm back to annual checks for now. *refills basket of brackets, tea cart supplies and cookie plate* Oh, and I saw a bluebird. Yay for good news!

Am on vacation this week, yay! Spent Easter with my relatives down in Elk Mountain, then a couple days in Boulder. Now I'm back in Casper, trying to make the most of my remaining time off by doing errands, cleaning up my apartment, etc.

I know this is somewhat political, but I'm going to post the link here, 'cause it is very important: We Have Three Weeks to Save Net NeutralityIf these new rules pass, the Internet will be pretty much like cable...limited choice, the corp sets the price, etc. Or, to put it more succinctly: [img src="http://s29.photobucket.com/user/mssassy31/media/methodgetsad-11-22-2013-11-37-43-650.jpg.html?filters[user]=9198216&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0" alt=" "]

All, FYI: Erin has hidden the Admin thread temporarily, while she fixes the problem it was having with no longer being Password protected.
Thanks to Diane & Julia for pointing this out.
I checked the other protected threads, and they seem to be OK.

Also, I have corrected your link, even though my delicate sensibilities were quite shocked.
