I saw an oriole in our backyard! It was gorgeous, a male in full breeding plumage, all orange and black. I've only ever seen them in photos before.
Yes, I am pathetic and have no life...

Not pathetic at all - I've never seen one either, and think this would be quite exciting . . . . the most exciting thing that happened to me today so far . . . let's see . . . I guess it was the call from the Middle School to complain about some things Roxanne is saying at school. Since this happens at least once a week, the excitement level was not that high.

So very cool- I haven't seen any since the ice storm in 1996- they recycle their hanging nests from year to year, and will leave an area where the nests have been torn down. I'm in slaking my thirst and letting my pants dry off where I had a live hose get out of my grasp. The weather was very stinky up until today- more of the kind of rain that causes landslides- and I've been doing a certain amount of spending too much money on plants and birthday presents. Anna turned 26 yesterday, yikes. A spontaneous work party has formed for my house on Wednesday, to get my pens finished so I can move the large fowl around and then clean out the broody hen pens for chick production use. Yesterday my five bantam hens layed six eggs, for the second time this month. I have rather a lot of tiny creamy eggs! Julia, so: spring, then.

So, Joss' latest film, In Your Eyes, has been released for rental on Vimeo. Are any S'cubies planning to watch? Should I create a thread?

Here we go again... Brush fire in San Bernardino I can already smell the smoke; the wind is coming right from there to here, and the air is getting kind of opaque. At least we aren't likely to get any burning bits. We're far enough away to avoid that. This morning at 5AM, it was already 76° with 10% rh. *refills basket of brackets*

be is correct in her generous aplication of group hugs, and Anne's brackets are gratefully accepted.
I have a bunch of people coming here at 4:00 and later for a chicken-related work party, which in my understanding of hospitality means I must feed them. We have brownies and gingerbread but there must be nonalcoholic beverages and a protein-ish, snack, yes?
Life is so very complicated.
Julia, so of course I was awakened at 5:40 after going to sleep around 1am, and am unready as Ethelred ever was.

I hate when I have something big coming up and it turns out to be graced with a bad night before. Sadly, it becomes more and more common as I get older.

Oy, again. Suffice it to say I've spent most of my time in the last 2 days dealing with one patient (well, pregnant patient>mom&newborn).
OB Peds often feels like being thrown into a middle of a war, but today it feels like I'm in a bombed out post apocalyptic landscape that's the result of a war between multiple factions. Only 1ish patient and I feel completely exhausted.

85°, 8% rh. In the patio, in the shade.
In other news, I spotted a hummingbird sitting on our clothesline. Emily id'd it as a female Allen's. Also, Emily likes to call birds "dinosaurs", since the former are descendants of the latter, so I decided to call her a dinornithologist. Fortunately, she thought it was clever.
Anne, about to doze off, any minute nowzzzzzzzzz
