I hate the thought of Spike being indebted to W&H, too.
I keep wondering how ME's gonna pull this off. Spike brings "anarchy" (JW's word ) to the show, and he can't really do that if he's part of W&H. On the other hand, they need him to interact w/the others and he can't do that if he's not around. Plus, how's he gonna live? He'll need money, right? I don't see him taking charity from Angel (and that's just W&H once removed). As to Spike's mortal/demon status, I've seen suggestions that he'll be mortal, but JM doesn't want that ("boring"). He seems to think that Spike will return as an ensouled vamp. Some folks seem to think that Spike's soul was "used up" by the amulet. If we look at the soul as energy, energy can't be created or destroyed, only changed. Presumably, the energy can be changed back to ensoul Spike. Here's another thought. We were told the amulet has cleansing or purifying powers. What if, instead of cleansing the demon from Spike, the demon in him was cleansed of evil. Would Spike then be the only good soulless vamp? Or what if the energy of soul and demon were somehow melded together? Mostly I'd like to see Spike getting the best of both worlds. He underwent a profound change when he rose from the dead the first time, why not now?

But still be a vamp with all his powers.

Just read a spoiler on aintitcoolnews.com that Spike may come back as a ghost. Am not liking this idea; it seems to serve only as a way to keep him and Buffy apart.

If that happens, I don't know if I can stand to watch. It would be so, so lame. Even if it was only temporary - you know, some kind of story line where he manages to find a way to be corporeal by the end of the season - I would hate the idea. He and Buffy are going to be apart no matter what, so that part doesn't bug me - but a Spike you can't TOUCH, who can't touch others is no Spike at all!!!!!

Actually, I can understand how it would work on a very temporary basis. I do think (don't know, my speculation here) that S5 is not going to open with Spike showing up at W&H headquarters in L.A.
I think we're going to have some "parallel" stories for a while. I think the Fang Gang will be doing whatever their new thing is, and that in Episode 1, we'll meet Spike "wherever" he is after his death. I don't think he's going to be a ghost like Caspar or Nearly Headless Nick, but I think that he's going to be in some other-dimension, where just how he comes back remains to be determined.
Personally, I think that that question will be answered by the end of Episode 1, and then Spike in some corporeal form (not speculating about the vamp/human/soulled/not question here) will show up in "this" dimension -- but that still may not necessarily be in L.A., at least for a few episodes.
But that's just me.

But that's just me. I agree - I would also guess it might take an episode or two for Spike & Angel to actually make contact. I could manage the non-corporeal thing if it was VERY temporary, as you suggest. I will hang on to that good thinking in case I hear more rumors of such a thing!! It will keep me from going bonky. Thanks, Laura.

I could see Spike being non-corporeal for an ep. or two, but definitely not for the whole season. That would be such a waste.

I agree that having Spike as a ghost temporarily would make sense. He would be totally disoriented after his sacrifice. He might sort of hover around tying to find out what's going on in L.A. Outside of the gem of Amara episode he didn't really understand what Angel and the others were doing.
It might be a good story line to have him watch Angel ane the others and then become corporeal and seem all knowledgeable. That would drive Angel crazy. The senior partners might be involved in his ghost/corporeal transformation.
I also think there will be tension with Angel caused by a variety of reasons. One which would be interesting would be Spike's insinuating himself into the FangGang. He would probably charm Fred immediately. Wesley and Gunn would be suspicious. Gunn would be totally freaked to have to "work" with 2 vampires. If he's semi-human, they will be won over. It will infuriate Angel since he must still work to regain their trust.
I do hope Eve will not be yet another semi-love interest for Angel. Personally I've had enough of JW's attempts at romance regarding Angel. For me it hasn't worked since Buffy.
But - I wish Electro-Gwen would return occasionally. She might be the only possibility for Angel. Of course, she has been with Gunn. More interesting opportunities for drama.
I've bookmarked the suggested sites, but I am going to try to stay away.

From what I've read, I don't know that Spike is gonna make any friends on AtS either. He's the one who's gonna be telling them what they don't want to hear, after all.

And we all know why that is! "Hi, my name is Lee and I'm Buffy/Angel 'shipper." I have a sneaking suspicion (just my idea, not based on anything I've heard) that Eve might play a potential love interest for Angel. Or Electro-Girl might come back. I just don't see JW and the other writers letting Angel sit around with no love interest. Especially since there aren't really any couples together anymore. Did Gunn and Fred ever truly break up? It was kinda fishy at the end - were they a couple? Weren't they? I just don't want to see Angel all mopey over Cordelia. Yes, I want him to be concerned for her because she is a part of his family but I do NOT want him to be all, "My love is comatose. My love is gone. Blah blah blah." No way Jose! Don't want to see that. Didn't like C/A to begin with and I really don't want to see it anymore. "Hi, my name is Lee and I'm a Buffy/Angel 'shipper."

I'm really not happy with the way they've left it so far, esp. when Buffy and Angel kissed (of course, you all know I've got other issues w/that as well). Angel's just sacrificed his son and Cordy's back in L.A. in a coma, but it seemed like it was no big deal. Bleah!! Now Cordy and Conner, that was just icky!

I have always thought that if it was done correctly, Faith and Angel would make a very hot pair - better than Buffy & Angel - more mature and interesting and . . . hot. Of course, that pesky curse thing sort of gets in the way of any and all romance for Angel.

Spring- You may be on to something w/Faith & Angel. Of course, I was pretty blown away by the chemistry btwn Faith & Spike. Part of me was horrified, but the other part of me was thinking "Ha! It'd serve Buffy right!" As for the whole pesky curse thing, the good folks at ME seem to have let that slip their minds lately. Buffy has NEVER been the reason she and Angel can't be together.

Of course, Angel could have sex with Faith without acheiving complete happiness. He did with Darla. And get Willow to come visit and do a different curse, one without the "lose your soul clause."
