*********************** I absolutely love the idea of JM selling his soul a la Robert Johnson ( who also had bad girlfriend troubles!!) Is anyone else as thrilled at the idea of that many really good looking guys on one show? (Lindsey,Angel (minus a few pounds _ I hope),Spike,Gunn,Wesley? Charley's Angels in reverse- eye candy for the resident board honeys- the imagination runs amok- I think JW is just jerking people's chains about spike returning as human- I definitely think he will be the oppositional voice to the others- but I just do NOT see them making him give up the supernatural edge of vampiric strength. (I kinda like the idea that his connection to First Buffy might allow the First to slip through again) Oh, no, I hope it won't be so! I have had ENOUGH of the First!!! Gail

I've heard they will maintain a season-long arc but throwing in a couple of Monster of the Week episodes could be kinda fun - it would really take it back to Season 1. Hmmm....I'll keep an ear out and let you know.

That was actually mentioned in the SFX article I posted here earlier (found on page 4 of this thread) How right you are, Rae!! I just read that article - thanks for posting it. It's very interesting. I love the season-long arcs but I also like the "stand-alone" episodes as well. Spike human? We've heard that from several places now and it makes me wonder if it's a red herring. We keep hearing "Spike will return as a human" "Spike will be human" "No more vampire Spike" blah, blah, blah - I wonder if it's just a big smoke screen? "Mwhahaha!! We've got them thinking Spike is human! They're fools, I tell you, fools! MWAHAHAHA!!!" - JW

Here's what I think will happen in AtS S5 -- just my speculation, I know nothing about spoilers:
Seems to me that while Spike will be in all 22 eps, it's premature to think that he's just going to show up at the W&H building in October and give the Fang Gang a summary of what just happened in Sunnydale. I think we're going to see some "parallel" action, as it were -- Angel and the others dealing with the "monster of the week," and Spike -- wherever and however he is -- going through whatever he has to do to be "reincarnated." Maybe he has a new series of trials to endure. Something.
Also, not particularly speculating as to whether he comes back human or "pure" vamp or "ensouled" vamp. The comments I made a long time ago somewhere about it becoming a practical problem to show 40-year old JM as an "ageless" vamp still stand -- except the writers could use a throw-away line like "the suffering he endured when he saved Sunnydale has changed him," and they explain any facial differences that way.
(Kinda the way the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back has Luke's face getting rearranged by the Ice Monster -- the way to explain why Mark Hamill looked different after the car accident he had post-Stars Wars.)
Anyway, I think the story lines will "chug" along on simultaneous tracks for the first 3 to 6 eps (maybe), and then whatever the Fang Gang is doing will converge with whatever is going on with Spike, and then the twain shall meet.
But that's just me.

But that's just me. Sounds like good thinking, but David Boreanaz has changed quite a bit and he's still supposed to be ageless. I mean, how does a vampire gain weight? Besides, JM looks way younger than 40, at least with Spike makeup and hair.

Besides, JM looks way younger than 40, at least with Spike makeup and hair. If I were the talented Mr. Boreanaz and knew that the ONLY guy in the Jossverse whose sexiness rivalled his own (in the eyes of network execs and perhaps the fan multitudes) was becoming a regular on his show, I would be dieting and/or exercising. A lot! Slightly plump Angel is still very easy on the eyes, but lean Angel is one of the most attractive men on current TV. Of course, AtvS now has the most hunky, sexiest cast for any hetero female viewer, what with Angel, Gunn, Wesley, and now Spike! (sorry, Lorne's a doll, but sexy he's not) Wonder if Gru will return to make it a quintet, 'cause he's cute too.
Personally I think Wesley is VERRRRY sexy!
How the heck am I going to last until September?

Gail Gail, I didn't mean that DB looks bad, but he has changed and aged. I definitely agree with you about Wesley.

But that's just me. Dead characters coming back to life is the in thing on two of my favorite series; first. STARGATE SG-1 has the formerly ascended Daniel descending back to life, and now Spike dies on BUFFY and will return on ANGEL...Wonder if they ran into each other while both "upstairs". (I've seen a very amusing cartoon showing Daniel and Cordelia chatting in Heaven, last summer I think)

Found this spoiler on the Spoiled Rotten site. www.spoiledrotten.tvheaven.com/angel.htmlNew Character - Eve July 1, 2003 Casting sides for have been released. A new character, Eve, will be introduced in the first episode. She's similar to Lilah and it looks like she's replacing Lilah. She's a Wolfram & Hart employee, is a liaison between Angel and all of the branch offices of W&H and reports to the Senior Partners. She shows up in Angel's office to introduce herself. She also starts to explain what Angel is supposed to be doing, which is keeping his mostly demon and evil clients happy.

Angel Casting News (Updated)
The first spoilers have broken for the first 'Angel' episode of Season Five. While not as spoilery as some might hope (the S-word is not even mentioned once), it does reveal a few secrets on just how Angel Investigations will integrate into Wolfram and Hart, what their goal is, and even reveals a new character (replacing an old one, it would seem) The spoilers are culled from a side which has come out, casting for the role of 'Eve' (which also looks to be the title for the first episode). Eve looks to be Lilah's replacement, which I can only assume means that Stephanie Romanov will not be back. The scene itself is brief, taking place in Angel's office (during the daytime, as expected). Angel comes in and is surprised to find Eve there. Eve will be Angel's link to the Senior Partners.
She quickly lays out that while Angel is in charge of this branch, it's only one of many. He could wipe out all the clients and close the branch, but it would effectively end his inside track on evil in the L.A. area. So it's a trade-off. He will need to allow some evil to exist, in order to do more good.
Otherwise, there's not much information beyond that. Except for the fact that in terms of character traits, I never thought I would use the words Perky and Evil in the same sentence.
Filmjerk.com has also released some info on this new character, which has not appeared elsewhere. They are passing along the following info...
- The first episode will be written and directed by Joss Whedon - Eve will be a recurring character - Filming should get underway on July 24th - Eve may have a hand in Spike's return to the show. (and a special thanks to T, who insured I didn't have to wait until I get back on Thursday to get the full scoop on these spoilers)

Lilah's replacement is perky and evil and is notnamed 'Harmony'?
If his Eve helps bring Spikey back, does that mean Spike will be indebted to Wolfram & Hart? Ick.
