Glossing has a quiet little tale, "Lost in Chinatown." The title has nothing discernable to me to do with the story, which is slowly, gradually, Giles/Oz, from Giles' viewpoint. It's at: www.livejournal.com/users/glossing/156407.html?view=3146743#t3146743I left, as a comment, the following: Quiet, perceptive, and delightful. Oz' characteristic taciturnity matched by Giles' essential isolation and silence he's sometimes uncomfortable and awkward in breaking. From its beginning in contemplating the magical adjacency of things in dreams onward, there's a very still, Zen quality to this story. It doesn't so much progress as unfold the essential nature of what's there all along. I have the feeling that Giles discovers/realizes it whereas Oz has known it all along.

This is a fic which may have been recommended in the earlier Slash Fiction Follies thread; don't know, don't care: it was new to me this morning when Estepheia recommended it in her lj. It's by Shadowscast, whose post NFA Spander "How the Light Gets In" is my woobie. "London Calling", Post Grave, Spike calls Buffy to apologize, she sends Xander to investigate, and things in London are not at all as he exxpected. NC-17 for the last, what, three paragraphs, otherwise PG (the furthest thing from PWP) and just fine from the first word to the last. shadowscast.popullus.net/london_calling.htmlJulia, really quite as good as possible

I don't recommend PWP, for the most part; threesomes hit major squick buttons having nothing to do with sex and everything to do with claustrophobia; I can't ship Angel with anyone and Angel/Wesley is a particularly hard sell. I do like Warren Zevon a lot, though. Uberaeryn does it again: "Lawyers Guns and Money", another of her predominantly S/A, NC-17 fics set in AtS s5, this one immediately before "Smile Time". VERY NC-17, no violence except vampiric foreplay and a drowned Viper: www.livejournal.com/users/uberaeryn/59348.html?#cutid1Julia, Professor Mary left the first comment, so you know I'm not alone in my appreciation of this nonsense

Nominally slash, as a very long relationship between Angel and Spike is implied, but I'll be posting it in both threads, as Tabaqui is so good, and so rarely writes anything that isn't S/X and at least R, that I want to share this with the slash-averse. Firefly/Buffyverse cross-over, Simon hires a couple of relatively familiar mercenaries to get River back pre Firefly Episode 1. Bao Bei, PG: www.livejournal.com/users/tabaqui/60749.html?#cutid1Julia, with Tabaqui's usual full 3D and sensurround descriptiveness

Anna S (eliade) has a small untitled X/S tale in which Spike binds and rapes Xander during the time Xander's living, and Spike's a nominal prisoner, in the basement of Xander's parents. The encounter is *definitely* non-consentual. That's all. It's very well written; however, the inital commentators seemed torn between WOW and ICK. If you care to, you judge. www.livejournal.com/users/eliade/330584.html?#cutid1

You'd never know.... Not least of the delights is that Spike has (finally--after 600 years) learned Chinese/Mandarin! Thanks for the rec. She says it tasted like MORE. I hope it's extended into other stories. With vamps, crossover over an extended period of time is almost credible.

Tabaqui is unusually able to make things real: physical, tactile, three dimensional. This fic, with Simon's growing confusion at Spike and Angel, is full of tiny details that paint a photo-realist kind of picture. Julia, there are days when one good new fic shows up and makes much of what else is around look foggy.

be's got a nifty Ethan/Ripper fic up at her LJ; since of course everyone resident at the S'cubie board has been waiting for this, I also pimped it at my lj. "Punk", preseries, hovering on the border between R and NC-17: www.livejournal.com/users/beccaelizabeth/166628.html?#cutid1Julia, now for a little PSA about the ship fic...

Uberaeryn impresses me more every day; today, it's with a BtVS s4 Giles/Spike called "This One Does" which hits one of my favorite themes: Giles and Spike being drawn together by things they get that no-one else does: www.livejournal.com/users/uberaeryn/61499.html?view=710203Julia, cute, and very guyish This was actually the first part of a WIP which will proceed to being postNFA- links in uptates thread. So I missed the TBC, so shoot me.

Kindkit, Giles/Ethan. This is backstory for the "It's Like Jazz" stories, so different in many ways from be's or Janedavitt and Wesleysgirls' backstory in that Ethan is four years younger than Giles, so that in this story they are 19 and 15. PG-13 www.livejournal.com/users/kindkit/66314.html?#cutid1Julia, with the disturbing coziness of the domestic parts of Like Jazz
