(This is an historic post.) Special Paste? We HAVE special paste? Alright, Robert, we told you not to eat the Special Paste anymore...gimme that *chuckling* Nan, you are in extremely high spirits this morning! Lets see, will we have enough space to put up everything online? Well, of course we will! That's the beauty of the internet. If you run out, we'll just make more. *L* So, continue saving away. Also, don't forget to check out the new message board I worked on all night (See the above posts of mine ofr instructions). I think it's pretty good. And yes, getting back to your fanfic worries, I doubt it will all be there forever myself. You keep copying anything you think needs saved. We'll make room for it on the website. Who knows, maybe one day we'll be the LAST updated and functioning Buffyverse website online. Probably not, but let's shoot for it!
*L**** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***As a note to my fellow S'cubies: I am thinking aobut taking on one or two junior website technopagan aprentices to help run things around the webpage and the new message board (Whatever message board we wind up keeping!). I havent decided who yet, but I can't be present 24/7 and as we grow, I want things to run smoothly. Several of you have shown the "deadication" and the technical skills necessary to do all that I do. (Actually there are at least three among you that know way more than I do, but I'll keep your secret safe *wink*) Anyway, when ScoopMe finally gasps its last message and we all have to reconvene on a site of our own construction, we will need backup personnel in place to man it when I am gone. I do take summer vacations you know, and sometimes am gone for the weekend. Anyway, I was jsut letting you know what's up and whats on my mind currently. Don't be surprised if I email any of you and privately converse on this matter further.
Vlad, TA, tp
ps.Anyone that eats of the special paste is automatically disqualified from wearing the mickey mouse pointed hat of aprentice! *L*V.

Vlad says: "But Spring, with your blue headers, yours were the prettiest archives of all!"
Pretty is as pretty does. As for the special paste, I use it all the time. Do not be afraid, my pretties. OK. I really must quit playing around. EVERYONE: Go check out Vlad's effort. Really worth a peek!

Well, I feel like a real idiot. I think Vlad has gone to bed, but maybe someone else can help me. I went to the new site. I registered. I logged in. I went to the profile so I could change my password (geez the one they assigned was bizarre). Then I went back to the board and hit "reply." Where it said "name" I typed in "Sue" which is the name I logged in under. When I hit "post" I get the message:
//The name you are trying to post as is the same name as a member of this board. Hit back and choose a new name.//
??
What am I doing wrong. Of course I'm trying to post under my name and it's the name of a member of the board. Any advice?

Nan recommended: //A little lighter but also excellently done is Daemons Luminati by Kalima. Her stories are more uneven and there's a prepondrance of fluff, but this longer tale is well worth reading. Indeterminate Season Six (I think) Spike is found in an alley beaten within 1/4 inch of his unlife. Buffy and the Scoobies slowly draw out from him his conviction that he's been beaten and raped...by angels, who stole his duster, to boot. And he wants it back. Things get even stranger from there on. Tara is particularly well done in this story, but Spike is at the center and is masterfully portrayed. I even liked quippy Buffy.//
Nan, I also recommeneded this story a few weeks back. Does anyone remember? Sometimes I feel like my posts are skipped over unopen and unread. In that same post I'd also recommended another story by Kalima called A Couple of Ex-Demons Just Sitting Around Talking. This is a short story set pre-Hells Bells I think, that centers on a meeting between Spike and Anya that has great dialogue and is very funny. Spike runs into a very pre-occupied and distressed Anya at a bar or a restuarant (don't recall) who has been taking one home pregnancy test after another, all of which come up postive. Much fascinating and at times hilarious discussion ensues. Anya has heard about Angel and Darla having a baby so she warns Spike about taking precautions himself.

Got it cleared up. But I did leave some questions over on the other board.

deborah, I remember. I went back and reread it even though I had read it before. I have read the ones Nan just recommended by Herself. Haven't yet gotten into the ones by Peasant because I was focussing on B/S not historical stuff. But, like Nan, I will eventually work my through everything on allaboutspike. I've started assuming that everybody on this board that wants good Spike fanfic, just goes to the allaboutspike board. I have recommended a few things I've found on fanfiction.net because they don't all make it to allaboutspike. She focuses particularly on stuff which shows Spike evolving, so some of the lighter stuff doesn't get included.

Thank you Sue. I was starting to feel like Invisible Girl. I've got two full cardboard boxes of fanfiction at home and am in the process of filling up a third. Printing it out is taking a lot of paper (feel very guilty about that, even though I buy my own) and very time consuming, expecially considering I can only do it after hours at my office. Point is, at this rate I despair at making it through all of All About Spike let alone the dozens of other fanfiction sites I've bookmarked. Obviously I can't print out every story. I only want the exceptionally good shorter ones I found time to read at work (before I got so busy) and the longer ones that have been recommended to me or pulled me in with a reading of the first chapter that I print out for later home consumption. Sometimes the story turns out to be a dud or not worth the paper so I try to reuse it on the blank side. But the copier jams a lot when I do that.

The Posting Board regs say, "You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law. This is not only humorous, but legal actions can be taken against you. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material." The bolding is mine. I wonder exactly what constitutes "sexually oriented"? Do we cross that line in our posts? And does the occasional lifting and crediting of pics on our board mean we are posting copyrighted material without consent? I notice that some of us do not give the URL of the originating pic when we post a pic on our board. I think that should always be done as a crediting to the place we lifted the pic from, just to keep ourselves legal. Citing the origination of a pic (even if the originator also lifted it from somewhere else) should keep our board out of trouble. Vlad - do you know anything about these issues?

In a technical sense, I imagine we boldly violate many terms of services, including some of ScoopMe!'s. The trick is not doing anything likely to offend anyone, and not using any copyrighted materials and claiming them as your own. I doubt there would generally be a problem, but the TOS agreement allows the message board company to wash its hands cleans of any crimes comitted by its users.

You said, "Nan, I also recommeneded this story a few weeks back. Does anyone remember? Sometimes I feel like my posts are skipped over unopen and unread." Nope. I went and read that fanfiction based on your recommendation and enjoyed the story very much. Deborah, maybe you don't realize that you have an unmatched eye for technical and story continuity of the BtVS series. I always like to read your analyses of how the storylines could have been better organized to fit together, or how one detail doesn't match up to others that have gone before. I never see the things you point out until you post them for us. I'm always amazed, and frankly, I don't know how you can keep all the details in your mind like that. And I thought I was detail oriented.Don't worry about your posts not being read. I read them, I enjoy them, and most of all, I take away new knowledge from them.

deborah, I print many out too, mainly so I have something to read away from my computer. (Since I still have a child who does not drive I ALWAYS carry something to read with me.) Still, you and I both have got to start doing what Nan is doing and copying the stories onto a disk for permanent storage. I don't think it's that hard, just time consuming. (Highlighting each chapter, edit copy, call up Word, edit paste, repeat. Once it's all in Word it can be copied to disk.--Am I right tecnowitches?) But I've read 100s of stories and the task seems daunting. What worries me most is unfinished WIPs. The good news is that allaboutspike has said it plans to stay open for now. Of course, that's what Kimay be that the girl who runs allaboutspike might need some donations to continue to pay for the sight. I may email her and ask. It would be worth it to keep it open. m from ScoopMe told us originally. It Also, obviously, fanfiction.net should stay open since it hosts all kinds of stuff, but who knows if the individual authors will keep their own sites up for long. Sue

You should know that I read your posts eagerly. I'm always dazzled by your analytical skills and am sometimes a little intimidated. I've also been feeling like Invisible Girl these last few days. Between the Archivers (I volunteered, but nobody noticed) and the late-night sex-fest, anything I've had to say went uncommented. Maybe we should form an Invisible Girl society. Whatcha think?
