One of the great examples of that walk would have to be from Crush when Spike and Drusilla execute a joint panthered walk on the catwalk of the Bronze on their way to a little "snack". And of course his triumphant vampires 4 abreast walk the night of the Boxer Rebelllion (at least from his point of view) in the same episode.

My Answers Did you watch the series from the beginning? No. But I'd seen the movies and mostly liked it.Couldn't quite get into Rutger Howar as the Master Vamp (he was Ann Rice's fantasy model for Lestat), but Paul Reubens death scene was classic. Also after he lost his arm Rutger says to him "I don't know how you ever made it thru the crusades." great Joss line. If not, at what point did you start watching? I resisted watching because I couldn't imagine it would be any good. I think I got into it in Season 2 pretty much at the beginning. What led you to start watching; e.g., were you channel surfing and got drawn in, was it word of mouth, something you read? I'm into vampires and sci fi and prefer to have a break from reality in my down time. I think I ran into it channel surfing and went *Oh, yeah they made a TV series out of that.* and started watching and was amazed how good it was. I loved the humor. Alway up for good repartee and word play.It entertained me. Also,I love a snarky villan. Alan Rickman has always been one of my favorites. And the english accent is perfect for snark. Plus the best villans also have sex appeal Spike was the best combination of all three I'd seen in a long time. At what point in the series did you become hooked? I was a pretty faithful viewer up to season five, but I wasn't obsessed.Spike's obsession with Buffy really got me hooked in. Season 5 had some great moments. And when he got beaten to a pulp rather than give up Dawn up to Glory. I fell in love. I didn't miss one ep in Season 6 altho when my memory starts to fail I hope Doublemeat Palace goes first. If you joined the series after Spike was already a part of the show, have you gone back and watched Season One and all the other episodes in subsequent seasons that do not include Spike? Yes, many times. My job is very stressful and I discovered Buffy just cheered me up. It was like a happy pill. During one particularly intense period I bought all the video collections they'd put out at that point, rented a little house on the ocean and watched a Buffy marathon all week end. As therapy, I highly recommend it. At this point I order the DVDs as they come out from Amazon UK and play them on a DVD player that's been decoded to play all regions.

Just to say You have to see Rutger H in his prime to appreciate why Anne Rice visualized him as her Lestat. See Blade Runner. he is as choice as (well maybe not) James Marsters. By the time of the rather unfortunate movie‑ RH had run to seed a bit. I swear, that movie did more damage to the credibility of the tv show than the title ever did. It was what kept me from watching it the first season.

Did you watch the series from the beginning? No If not, at what point did you start watching? I didn't start watching Buffy until this past summer. I thought the movie was cute, I enjoyed Paul Reuben, was glad to see him working after his unfortunate experience here in FL. I also enjoyed Donald Sutherland as her exasperated watcher. I remember seeing billboards around town, "Buffy Lives" and thinking what is this nonsense?? What led you to start watching; e.g., were you channel surfing and got drawn in, was it word of mouth, something you read? My daughter would watch it on FX. We're on satellite, the antennae was fried by lightening so UPN is almost a bust (fixing this is a guy thing and is still not right). I do try to watch what I can on Tuesday nights through the snow on the tube. I have to use a lot of imagination though, to get expressions to go with the words. At what point in the series did you become hooked? I don't really know. All of a sudden I was just obsessed. The nasty little principal being eaten by a giant serpent. I had an assistant pricipal in high school that would have made a great meal. And then...blowing the place up, I LOVED IT! The dialogue, the humor, the fact that Buffy wouldn't have made it so long without her friends. Just tonight, FX, Xander being questioned by Cordy if guns made him horny and his reply, "I'm 17 years old, looking at linoleum makes me horny." JM's wonderful facial expressions. He can switch from all bravado swagger to the petulant caught red‑handed, so well, I get embarrassed for him. The way he LOOKS at Buffy, just makes me melt. JM can be on camera not saying a word, yet you know just what he's trying to communicate. If you joined the series after Spike was already a part of the show, have you gone back and watched Season One and all the other episodes in subsequent seasons that do not include Spike? Yes. I like Spike best, but I like the show. I have run out and bought the first three seasons on DVD and am anxiously waiting for June. I like seeing how the actors have matured as characters and as individuals. I like the forshadowings and clues Joss leaves strewn all over the place. I like trying to figure why they (Joss & CO.) have done what they've done. Deborah, thank you. This was fun.

I love to watch Spike move B walking, fighting, humping and pumping and bringing the house down, exercising naked under the sheets ‑ whatever. One of my favorite scenes is when he is walking around and talking to Buffy as she lies invisible under the sheets in AGone@. What a view. He does a lot of strutting type moves when he fights Buffy in the sunlight with the Gem of Amara on his hand. And of course that subway fight scene is the yummiest ever when it comes to watching him move. I shouldn=t write stuff like this right before I go to bed. I=m trying to remember some of the tricks the nuns taught me to keep boys off my mind B I=m not sure ten Hail Mary=s are going to work for me these days, though.

Stay tuned, Rusty. I totally understand your concern, but the amount of posts generated in these ATS/JM threads surely cannot have gone unnoticed by the PTB. ;‑) With all these posts, we're talking significant and solid numeric data here, not just an occasional Spike‑centric comment. And given the depth, breadth, intelligence, and creative wit that has gone into so many of these ATS/JM posts, I think that also says a lot about us ‑ that we're serious but mature fans who thoroughly enjoy discussing our Spike and James. Heck ‑ many, if not all, of these ATS/JM threads have over 100 posts ‑ whereas there are less than that for some entire set of boards for certain tv shows! I see above where some of you have counted the ATS/JM posts and I apologize for not having read those yet, but I think my fact is correct in this matter. And hey ‑ all posts for the entire SET of BTVS boards has now past the 10,000 mark ‑ WAY ahead of all the other shows' boards! So we're having some fun and yet respectfully (if not inadvertently) making a statement at the same time. Wonder if somehow anyone from James' camp or from the PTB at ME are noticing, too?

All quotes by deborah: "I'm starting a (very) informal poll‑ not at all up to the academic standards of the VHISN." Oh, don't sell yourself short! ;‑) This is all of the good! "Did you watch the series from the beginning?" No. In fact, I refused to even consider the show for the longest time just because the name sounded stupid to me! "If not, at what point did you start watching?" Sometime during the Season 4 reruns on F/X last summer. "What led you to start watching; e.g., were you channel surfing and got drawn in, was it word of mouth, something you read?" My husband is a "Buffy" fan who hadn't watched it in a few years, so as he was getting caught up watching the F/X reruns, occasionally, I'd watch bits & pieces of episodes. "At what point in the series did you become hooked?" Sometime shortly after it registered in me that I was very attracted to Spike. One day I was watching some episode ‑ I don't remember which one ‑ but I DO remember suddenly blurting out, 'Where's Spike? I wanna see Spike! When do we see Spike again?', to which my surprised husband replied, 'Oh ‑ you like the show now?' And I said, 'Yes ‑ and I like Spike!' "If you joined the series after Spike was already a part of the show, have you gone back and watched Season One and all the other episodes in subsequent seasons that do not include Spike?" Absolutely! I liked the show as a whole; was very impressed with the quality of the writing and the series' continuity. So I wanted to be "in the know" from square one

Dr. Walsh was mean to EVERYONE (except Adam), not just Giles. I know she supposedly "loved" Riley (or was IN love with Riley), but she used him just the same for Initiative purposes, and her trying to get Buffy killed (which was horrible in and of itself) was cruel to Riley, knowing that he loved her. And being human, she had a soul, too... gee.

Lee Parrish brought up the word 'avuncular' and it perfectly describes Spike's feelings toward and relationship with Dawn. A lovely word for a lovely relationship. I hope it gets mended soon. Those two need each other, Dawn even more than Spike.

yeaah a poll... usually i'm too slow (or you'are too quick) for me to join in just wanted to let you know i 've been reading and enjoying (a LOT) the topic and the posts ! i started at part IV, now i guess i will have to go back to part I, II and III... the poll : Did you watch the series from the beginning? yes pretty much What led you to start watching; e.g., were you channel surfing and got drawn in, was it word of mouth, something you read? i'm not really into vampires or sci fi and i just saw the movie last year (i think), i was channel surfing not paying too much attention at first and then... ‑ At what point in the series did you become hooked? i don't really know, gradually i guess, mixture of everything, situation, humour, storyline, humour... i went from channel surfing to leaving it on and doing something else at the same time to just sitting and switching off the telephone. at one point i couldn't watch it (away where it was not on tv, yes it's possible !), and then thank god for sites with episodes summaries and quotes. i just found out about message boards recently, yeah, i know, i need to keep more informed on the new technologies.. ‑ If you joined the series after Spike was already a part of the show, have you gone back and watched Season One and all the other episodes in subsequent seasons that do not include Spike? i like episodes without spike, but with him, it's, well, better, and it's not at all because he's got a great butt and a great walk and... i will probably try the buffy marathon one week end !!! on rutger hauer, he was really good in blade runner but also in 'hitcher' / 'the hitcher', he was a killer (surprise), and there was a movie with jennifer jason leigh (don't remember the title, i believe there is blood in it, he was a knight) and the one with michelle pfeiffer (really not good with titles tonight), all from the 80s, since then... hope to keep on learning new words

I just watched "Surprise" Season 2 where Jenny Calendar's uncle shows up in her classroom. He's talking about Angel and the curse and calls 'vengeance' a verb. Last time I looked it was a noun. Don't know how ME missed that one. And that uncle ‑ a less than stellar performance. His accent was so over the top it took me right out of the story. He might be a contender for the 'Worst Actor in the BtVS Series' award. Not worst character, which maybe has to go to the She‑Mantis ‑ or Manny, the manager of the Doublemeat Palace. For 'worst' read dumbest.

My answers, with apologies in advance for how sloppy they look......Did you watch the series from the beginning?‑‑‑‑No. My first full episode was Restless to wrap up season 4. I remember being blown away by the haunting score and imagery, and the acting was extraordinarily good. What kind of teen show IS this, anyway?‑‑‑‑‑What led you to start watching?‑‑‑‑‑I realized I was interested when I made sure I'd be available to watch Buffy vs. Dracula the fall after I'd been so mesmerized by Restless.‑‑‑‑‑‑At what point in the series did you become hooked?‑‑‑‑‑I laughed my butt off at Buffy vs. Dracula, especially at Xander. I immediately recognized a kindred spirit in this guy, while I fell in love with Willow (simple lust for Buffy).‑‑‑‑‑‑‑If you joined the series after Spike was part of the show, have you gone back?‑‑‑‑‑‑I have to give props to FX, though I generally speak ill of them now because of their sloppy scheduling and editing of dialogue. I've now seen every episode at least 3 times and continue to be delighted by them, even the bad (by BTVS standards) ones. I'm still in awe of every actor's flair for comedy. Even wonderfully written comedy is hard to do, and every single one of them (even Marc Blucas...on occasion) do it well. Now that I look back on it, Spike's Season 4 reappearance is the point in which all characters slowly began to work their way into adulthood.

Alexandra, if this is your first time seeing that particular episode, Part 2 is simply spectacular. Innocence is one of the most devastating, gut wrenching things I've ever witnessed on any screen (or stage for that matter). I had already seen season 5 the first time I saw this episode, and I knew the plot going in. Didn't matter. It still tore me up inside. You've got a point, though; Vincent Schiavelli is a pretty good character actor, but he went way over the top in this episode. I don't think Angelus cared much for his performance either. :‑)
