Erin, I'll probably go too far into it, but Jack, Kate, Locke, and Charlie go to get the water Jack found last week. They get there, there's a nice cool cave, shelter, etc. Jack says they need to gather supplies from the wreck of the old plane - which is as it turns out, not part of their plane. Charlie slips away to have some of his drug but Locke stops him by telling him he's standing on a huge beehive. The beehive breaks they all run and Kate discovers an old body - there are two - male and female, at least 50 years old (in the sheltered area- no signs of violence). Meanwhile back on the beach we see flashbacks of Sun and Jin - She was the daughter of a Korean Mafia guy apparently - he was a waiter. I think that should get you up to where you were. Maybe. Thank you! Actually, the point I came in on, Jin was handcuffed to part of the plane, but I don't know why.

Sun had some spirit once. She definitely has the abused wife vibe--I'll do whatever my husband wants in order to avoid the abuse. Was Jin ever the nice, sweet guy he seemed or was it doing his father-in-law's obviously very dirty work what made him mean? Can he be redeemed? Did Sun think so when she stayed with him or do she feel, like many abused woman, that she deserves what she gets? I don't think he ever abused her. He seemed to love her very much and to me the problem was first that he worked so hard and was away so much working for her father that she was lonely...and then she found out that he had sacrificed his honor in order to marry her. I think she felt great guilt - after all, she knew her father was a criminal, and she looked troubled from the beginning when Jin said he was going to work for her father. I think she 'knew' all along. I loved the scene in the airport when she was going to leave - she obviously still loved him - the tears were flowing even before she saw the flower. I just don't have the Jin hate thing going...

I just kept thinking that the diamond doesn't mean much on that island or in the marriage. Much better to get a flower from a nice, decent guy who treats you good. Like Sawyer and Sayid working together. I kept wondering if the water would still be there. I see they didn't cut up ALL the water bottles. I'm just glad Charley stepped on bees, not snakes. Bees and dead bodies don't bother me, but snakes. AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Anybody else think how much cheaper this show will be to produce if they spend a lot of time in those "caves"? Were those gemstones that Jack found in the pouch? I really liked the scenes with Locke and Charley. "Just 'cause I'm over 40 doesn't mean I'm deaf." Locke is definitely making himself the shaman. "have faith" "give something to the island" "look up" Sun had some spirit once. Does anyone else think Kate might have moved to the caves if Jack hadn't just assumed she'd be moving? I'm glad they're making some serious plans, but it would make sense to have a rotating look-out on the beach. "C's actually" Looking down and comparing they look more like A's. ;D The bees just freaked me (I'm with Charley on the irrational fear of them - at least in that quantity!!) I loved that it was Locke to be the first person to actually recognise Charley on their own, without prompting. The thing with the guitar was very cool, and I don't even care if Locke had seen it right away and then just used it to help Charley give up his drugs or if it really just appeared because Charley wanted it. Either way it was cool! ;D Found it very interesting that 3 of our main leader types stayed at the beach. I totally agree with you that it was Jack's assumption that she'd be moving that really helped Kate decide. But I gotta say, why didn't Jack present it differently? Why not say that most of the people should go close to where the water is while a rotating contingent of people man the search fire on the beach? Why make it all - you gotta choose living on the island or looking for escape. 'Cuz obviously, it's both. Sun and Jin were so sweet at the start and they showed the slow deterioration of the marriage very well. I really really liked the scene in the airport when she was so upset and ready to leave and then that last heartbreaking look back at him and he's holding up the flower. You can just see in her face how that kindness, that reminder of what they had before, is what really breaks her. (Damn, she's a good actress!) Maybe the island will bring them back to the love they had before. I liked Sawyer and Sayid working together. And by now, it really didn't surprise me. Lola

OK, it was just me being only half awake, as usual. ;D Lola

Yes - agreed. I did notice that, and I don't think it was coincidence either. I like getting to know all our main characters better, and part of me is anxious for when they do the Hurley flashbacks, and the Claire flashbacks, and they show Sayid's and Sawyer's backs flashing - uh - I mean, flashbacks . . .etc. But part of me is anxious to get that "background" part over with, and begin learning about the island proper. ---------------------------- to me, the characters' stories are the things that are the real story and the 'island' is the background. Not that I am not intensely interested in finding out what is going on, cause I am, but I think we are going to continue to learn about both at the same time, through the season.

I temporarily interupt this posting thread for a public service anouncement. Something wonderous is occuring: The moon is going away. Thank you very much. That is all. Too cloudy here to see.

yes, Locke is sure the god figure on this island, isn't he? And he's with Jack. I would have definitely gone to the caves and the waterfall myself. I don't understand the reasoning behind all those people who wouldn't go. Would have been so easy to just take turns being on watch at the beach. Two people a day spend the day on the beach, keeping the fire going...next day someone else's turn. I guess they just can't stand to face things yet. Captain falafel.....I was disappointed in him. dang Sawyer's dimples are cute.... And Kate was SO disappointed that Jack's attention wasn't on her behind! LOL!!! Hurley must be using Energizer batteries....again with the cd player! But it was a very apropos song. Yeah, they made it all so polarizing! Which I suppose is actually a good metaphor for how different people are reacting to the accident and being on the island. I wonder if now we'll get even more stories, contrasting the folks on the beach and the folks in the caves. Yeah, Kate really wanted him to be thinking about her rear view. ;D And then it turns out he's busy planning a better hospital with a pool. Maybe Hurley's one big wish is for the music to just keep going. So the island is making his batteries last forever! Lola

Patti, you're probably right that she probably knew her father was into criminal activity, but Jin said he was going to do "a year of management training and work in the factory." Her father probably has some legitimate businesses to front the criminal ones.

**pout** Here too. But I did see a partial moon eclipse about a year ago or so. And just to make the post legal. ;D I'm wondering just how regularly folks get stranded on the island. I mean, there's the radio transmission from like . . 16 years ago. And now the bodies that died maybe 40/50 plus years ago. Does the island need to have people on it - somehow attract them or make them crash - so it can have wishes to create? Lola

Her father probably has some legitimate businesses to front the criminal ones. oh I'm sure he did...rather...I assume he did, cause all the crime shows I've seen, that's how it works. *grin* The look on her face when he told her...and her original desire to elope just makes me think she knew her father was no good and wanted to get away from him...maybe she hoped Jin didn't know what sort of father she had? Cause otherwise, why wouldn't she just tell him? In those first scenes she certainly didn't seem like the shy retiring type.

I mean, it sort of seems that way, and it sort of doesn't. I agree that Jin was not physically abusing Sun, but since she went so far as to plan to leave him, things must have been getting pretty bad. I had this feeling, though, that she was running away from her father as much as Jin.
