Spring, I'm right there with you...it was bad, evil, all wrong, and whoo hoo, it was hot! SMG's interview comments help explain to me why she seemed so flat and callous in so many scenes in season 6. I think she truly maybe for the first time, didn't 'get' the emotions she was supposed to be portraying. JM did, and it showed.

Hiya Patti! Thanks for dropping by the Souful Spike Society and I am glad you seem to be enjoying it! This is really a great bunch of folks and they have really put themselves out creating all that poetry, and the analyses, and the fanfiction. Our discussions here at the board are most always a lot of fun, but don't be surprised if occasionally one will really creep in to make you think. I know you will enjoy the fanfic on the site. Rob's got a really great story going, as does Rusty. Joshua and WG both got off to great start and I am, for one, really hoping they will return to it. Something else that might bear checking out are the Very Special Selections from ScoopMe. They are mostly really interesting threads collected from the obscurity of previous editions of the Soulful Spike Society so they wouldn't get lost. Anyway, welcome aboard. Your posts are appreciated and if you have anything to offer to the site, a story, some poetry...or something that we haven't done yet, feel free to submit. *S* Vlad, TA, tp

I think Joss actually handled the whole soul dilemna marvelously. Look, the first time we deal with a vampire with a soul, it's Angel. Angel was evil...really, really evil. It took something completely exterior to himself (the gypsy curse) to return his soul and "allow" him to be good. Okay, there you have it. Joss set up the scenario for the series, he created the precedent, all in the first season..actually in the early episodes of that season. Then (well actually it kinda starts in season two) several years later, he takes that precedent and turns it on its ear. Spike reclaims his soul. Fine, dandy...big deal.. been there before....but wait, not so! Nothing like this has ever been heard of before. Look, Joss took the soul and kinda threw it out the window. He DID make it all about the trip. Spike wasn't cursed (except maybe by love). He fought for his soul. A souless creature desired to do good, be good and reclaim his soul. The motivations may have been slightly selfish, the execution sloppily done, but that vamp struggled for 2-3 years to redeem himself. All this turns the soul from a necessary thing to be good and redeemable to more of a trophy for actually doing the redeeming work. If Spike was able to fight for his soul, then all vampires potentially could do the same. Anya is simply amazed at seeing his soul in him at the beginning of the season. I mean.. she is flat out flaberghasted. I think it is because Spike managed to regain his soul through goodness and desire BEFORE he was good, is what she is so amazed about. He WAS doing good before that darn soul got involved. So Joss, in a way did lessen the importance of the soul, and instead said "Look, it's the actions of the man, it's what is in his heart, his intentions that matter...not some ephemeral little piece of fluff we call a soul. That's jsut a badge. *waiting for the disagreements to begin* Vlad Edited By Vlad I at 3/2/2003 11:36:00 PM.

Patty T- I am glad I am not the only one who in addtion to having many of the episodes on tape ( I have yet to purchase a DVD) still watches the FX episodes. It is like a daily fix- I start to prepare dinner and straighten up and at the back of my mind is the idea that one or 2 of the Buffy repeats will be coming on. I had figured that once I actually saw all the episodes twice through and taped the ones I especially liked that the FX aired episodes would lose their fascination. You are right- they are just that...cozy.

I vote for them as they appeared in your post, by coincidence. The first gets my #1, the second #2, and the third, #3. I liked them all!

In the January 11-17, 2003 TV Guide there is a letter referring to the selection of "Spike" for the "Top Fifty Things to Love About TV" list that appeared in a recent TV Guide. Remember he was listed as #50? The letter says, "I couldn't agree more with Matt Roush's selection of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer's' Spike, but I'd have ranked him higher than no. 50. The character is multidimensional, and James Marsters has breathed life into him like no one else could. He makes the series well worth watching." signed by Regina Corbett or Norfolk, VA. Yea, Regina! Her comments are in a national magazine with a monumental circulation. I imagine they get a LOT of letters each week and someone chose her letter to be printed. Maybe someone on the staff is a Buffy fan - or else there were so many letters saying the same thing, TV Guide printed one representative letter to acknowledge the fan base. Either way, this is probably very good for James Marsters's career. I certainly hope he lives long and prospers. (Oops, showing my age there...)

Ok, here are some of my favorite moments. (And thanks for suggesting this - I love this kind of thing) The Prom - the moment when Buffy gets her class protector award ALWAYS brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. Beneath You - the final scene in the church is to date the most moving scene I've ever viewed. JM rules. The moment in School Hard when Spike and Drusilla slowly turn their heads to face the camera....SUCH a great scene. TWO TO GO - the moment Giles shows up to issue Dark WIllow his challenge...A jump for joy moment! Crush - the moment on the balcony in the Bronze, when Spike is struggling and almost literally watering at the mouth before he bends his head and drinks from the girl Drusills killed for him. Sick puppy me, but that is one hot moment. Innocence - the moment that Angelus shows up at the factory and greets Dru and Spike in ...almost..identical manner. Subtext pretty close to the surface there. Bargaining Pt 2 - Spike ministering to Buffy's wounded hands and the love and awe in his eyes. Bargaining Pt 2 - Spike's moment of joy at the chaos being created by the biker gang - and longing to be part of it, before he steals the bike and takes Dawn away. Hells Bells - not a moment I love, but a moment of great acting - Anya's face as she realizes Xander is not going to marry her. Oh god I wanted to die with her. And all the other great moments you guys have recalled to me.

Alexandra, Star Trek (original) is always (re)running somewhere. We therefore conclude you caught the series in reruns and rightfully picked up on Spock (almost wrote Spike!)'s signature aloha phrase (used both as hello and goodbye), since you were obviously not yet born when the series originally aired. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Nan

Thanks Robert! Glad to be here. Wish I'd gotten here earlier. Just like me to show up at the eleventh hour... UNLESS we get that spinoff going!

Thanks! I've now started the stories 'Legion of Goroth' and 'Truth'. I'm loving them both! I'm constantly amazed at how talented the Buffy fandom is...but why should I be surprised actually. People drawn to Buffy are probably basically artistic imaginative people.

Patti T. said, "I still watch the reruns, even though I have every episode either taped or on DVD. Weirdness...I just like them...they make me feel all....cozy. " I laughed to read this. I'm exactly the same way. I'll watch episodes over and over again as they come on FX. I admit I do skip a few eps that I like less. Today, they had a repeat of "The Puppet Show" and ventriloquist's dummies weird me out so I gave that one a miss (seen it before a few times already anyway). I don't know why Buffy episodes don't get old and tired for me, but they don't. It's more like visiting close friends when I tune in. And, of course, any episode with James Marsters I'll watch.

I think the whole thing with Spike getting his soul on purpose - his 'work' toward redemption while still a demon is meant to be unique. He is and has been unlike any other vampire we've seen. I don't think Spike can be an example of what any other vampire might do. I'm still waiting for his uniqueness to be explained in these last 6 episodes. If it isn't, then I'll say, you had it right, Vlad.
