Nice ep! I'm really glad we got to see the other side of the story. How sad! They were both keeping secrets from the other, one of which was they both were wanting out. If only they'd talked to each other. Lola And Hurley was on TV! When Jin went to the guy's house to intimidate him the first time (when he didn't know that's what he was supposed to be doing). The little girl was watching TV and Hurley was on!!! Dude!! Hurley was on the t.v. the girl was watching!! OMG! Was that Hurley on the TV the lil' girl was watching?? Brain share! ;D ;D ;D

I think she was really speaking Chinese then - they translated it for us to give it more power. Ummm Korean... they speak Korean. Vlad

So maybe he was a star of Korean television before coming home to the States... Huh... Either that, or lil' girl was watching a very special television set... There were subtitles. I mean, the little girl seemed to be watching something that was in English (or whatever) and had subtitles in Korean, so she could understand it. Fit in with the "communication/translation/getting through to one another" theme.

I felt the same way about this scene. It has more punch when we can match the tones to the words. And, it doesn't make sense unless she's trying to find out if Jin speaks English. Which, I admit - I kept waiting to find out that he could...I'm glad they didn't go that way - it would have been too 'cute'.

Burger King goes surreal. I like it. But there should have been someone throwing power tools into a bathtub. Very very nice flirtage between Sayid and Shannon. Very nice. Well, Locke didn't do it, but how cool that he figured out the kid did. (Although I want to know if he actually set it on fire or did he do it with his demon spawn mind control thing.) I loved it when Locke just lost it with the group and reamed them a collective new one with some reality. Hey, remember the people out there kidnapping and killing us? Think they might be more likely to have done this than us and that fighting amongst ourselves is a really stupid thing? This time we for sure got an us / them that meant the survivors versus the folks already there. (I'm still not convinced the other "us / them" was about that.) Lola I liked Locke's speech too, but was he just covering for Walt, or did he realize later that Walt did it?

Haven;t seen you recently. I really didn't like the way they did htat scene, if indeed that's what they were doing. It's jsut confusing. If they had both slipped into "english Korean" it would have been okay, but they only do it for one sentence that Jin is "supposed" to understand? And then go back to subtitles. Color me confused. Yeah, and just what would you do with all that rope? I can't believe Sayid was scared off by Boone? I didn't think Sayid was scared off by Boone. I thought he was just being polite, like he said, when he went to talk to Boone. I think he was scared off by himself when he thought Boone was right, ie. that Shannon only wanted him for what he could do for her on the island. I'm glad she decided to be a grown-up and let Sayid know she wants to be with him. Of course, if she treats him bad, he can't say he wasn't warned.

Miss Smarty Pants Patti. I was so thinking along the lines of one of the "others" that I really didn't think about Walt. Although, the conversation about showing him a new city should have been a big clue. Walt's lack of enthusiasm about "the buildings" was a great red herring to throw us off his true lack of desire to see New York. I knew Jin didn't do it, and that the burns were from trying to put it out. *nods* well you know, it was my turn, fellow smarty pants.

A very intense episode!
I don't think Jin speaks English, or at least not very muc of it. Sun is locked between two incredibly stubborn and more-violent-than-they-appear alpha males; but by the end of the episode she seems to be thinking more for herself, actually doing something for herself in wearing a bikini and stepping into the ocean.
Daniel Dae Kim has some acting chops here! Great portrayal of a young man who does sacrifice all his dreams for love, and comes to regret his decision as he has to pay violent dues.
GAIL
Yes, Daniel Dae Kim was incredible tonight. Once again, I repeat - the casting office did one hell of a job with this show. Not a missed beat anywhere.

Aw crap.. he actually took Boone at his word. And she sees it too. Darn. I thought he was good for her: taught her some self-reliance... "Jungle Pals" I loved "jungle pals". ;D I was bummed that he took Boone's word at face value. At least just ask her straight out or something, but don't just . . . be all, drift away guy. Locke often says stuff that is really cool and that I like, but . . . I still have this vibe about him and I still feel . . . wary. Like I should keep an eye on him. But I love Hurley. Just love him. At the end tonight, when the CD player finally kicked it - hit the last of the batteries, I'd guess - it was like: OK, this is the end of one phase and the start of the next. I wonder if SunDaddy wanted Jin to fail. Wanted an excuse to really . . . show him the heavy hand of daddy and what that means. Along with implicating him. I loved how he thought of what to do and put it in place so quickly. Just get out of that car and do it. Then when he said "I just saved your life" to the guy. And then looking at the little girl. Poor Jin! Well, I figured when we got his story we'd end up having more empathy for him. Yup. And unfortunately, I think he also hates her a little, without admitting it. Like, he hates that he did all this stuff for her - sort of blames her in a way. Also, that he did all of it for her and she doesn't know/appreciate it. But he never told her what was going on! Lola

I liked Locke's speech too, but was he just covering for Walt, or did he realize later that Walt did it? That part where Locke said "why would any of us want to stay on the island" or something like that . . . he's really being less than honest with everyone, in keeping his "I used to be crippled" secret. Locke has a very, very good reason for not wanting to rescued, for "burning the raft" so to speak - he has no idea whether he'd retain the use of his legs, off the island. And he's being deliberately dishonest in giving everyone the impression he wants off the island as much as everyone else. In blaming them, he's covering for himself as well as Walt, though I'm not sure why he wants everyone to believe that he's as anxious to get off the island as anyone. The truth is, he recognized Walt as a fellow . . .island-lover because he himself is one. He didn't burn the raft, but I think he's glad that Walt did. Locke - he's an interesting fellow. Black and white. We're deliberately being kept wondering about him.

Macrame' a hammock for romantic Saturday evenings snuggled together under the palm trees. That's what I thought.

Vlad I thought that Sun was speaking English there because she couldn't make herself say it in Korean. It was too much, it left her too naked, so to speak, so she "cushioned" it by saying it in English. Am I making sense?

Yes, Daniel Dae Kim was incredible tonight. Once again, I repeat - the casting office did one hell of a job with this show. Not a missed beat anywhere. I don't notice that anyone has mentioned that Daniel Day Kim was Lila Morgan's rival within Wolfram & Hart, particularly in Season 4, where he got killed and zombified when the Beast decimated the employees there. So another Jossverse alum makes good!
