I see that all of you have the same problem I have finding a quote that could be used for my work signature. All your ideas are great, classic quotes, but I need my job for a few years yet, and I don't think my department head is a Buffy fan. And "Love's a funny thing" is closer, but still not probably what an academic type should be using as a sig. Maybe there *are* no quotes from Buffy that would be appropriate - how funny (laughing).

As the subject reads, thank you to all who felt the poem was worthy of both the S cubies and the man himself. And all the discussion about last night's episode has me dying with anticipation. For reasons unkown to me, there is no UPN network here in Gainesville, FL and Buffy and all UPN primetime shows are shown the following day in the afternoon on the local WB affiliate. How this is possible is well beyond my understanding. Oh and Spring Summers, your episode analyses are the best thing since...well, since Spike showed up on the show.

Here's how I learned of it. Message posted at the Cross & Stake boards. Date Posted: 12:15:39 02/05/03 Wed Author: meg Author Host/IP: 192.197.128.12 Subject: Thank you James Marsters Variety Ad We are a month into the Thank You James Marster Variety Ad Campaign, and our group thought this would be a good time to update everyone on the progress we've made so far. We've resently changed our URL to www.savespike.com. The other URL didn't have enough bandwidth to handle the traffic, so we moved to a bigger place. We have a new design as well. We've also had two potential drafts of the ad posted on the site so far, and may put up others as the we go along. We've been talking to Variety and they have given us a major discount on the ad. So now we only need $3025 instead of $4700. To date we have raised over $1500, putting us over the half-way mark, which is fantastic. We also talked to James's manager last week in hopes of getting clearance to use certain pictures for the ad; without James finding out of course. We want it to be a surprise if at all possible. We're waiting for his manager to gather information for us at this point. We're also still working on selecting a charity, and we hope that information will be posted very, very soon. Watch the site for updates. The great thing about this campaign so far has been having all these people from ALL OVER THE WORLD come together to help make this campaign possible. It truly is an international fan effort. Most people we have talked to have been very supportive of the campaign and we really appreciate all the kind words of encouragement we have received. We also would like to thank everyone that has helped us get this far, be it financially or simply telling others about the campaign. We couldn't do this without you guys.

Just checked out Cross & Stake but saw nothing about this. Maybe I missed it because I was careful not to stray into News. It sounded as if Spoilers might be lurking there. I still don't understand what this save Spike campaign might be about. Is it just a surprise thank you add in Variety for JM? If so then why the "save Spike" name?

Yeah, it was posted on the boards with all the other spoilers, so don't delve in too deep! As for the "savespike" URL, my guess is that with the season winding down, that this is a fan effort to 1. let James know how appreciated he is and 2. to let the industry at large know how appreciated he is....the URL, maybe, is just easy to remember? If you go there, it's clearly branded as a James Marsters support effort, not a Save Spike effort.

Alexandra - how about Giles in "Superstar" - "Don't speak Latin in front of the books!" Of course, that wouldn't mean much to anyone who doesn't watch the show, but it reeks of academia

And thanks to you, Josh, for the very nice compliment! Welcome, and glad you joined our discussion and contributed so nicely. I'm going to try to get another analysis out by the end of the week - What's My Line - Part I.

I liked that article a lot, too. I even agreed with the things the author didn't care for very much. I'm not a big Kennedy fan, for example. Although I'm wondering if I'd be comfortable with any new characters with such little time left. I gave Tara and Dawn the benefit of the doubt when they were new, and I developed a fondness for both of them. On some level I think that may have been due to the time factor. I knew the show was going to be on for as long as Sarah wanted to stay, and I was willing to let them develop. I don't want Kennedy, Wood or Andrew to get that much time because it takes away from the characters I've already grown attached to.

Yeah, you're probably right about the circumstances with Willow/Warren and Spike, though his writhing in pain in the background while Buffy tries to contact Riley was clearly playing for laughs in my humble opinion. Maybe I was just having a highly sensitive few moments when I jumped on the writing. I stand by my general criticism, though. There's no meaningful interaction between any major Scoobies right now aside from Buffy and Spike, and she's acting as if she's afraid of him, which gets them nowhere. Anya is starting to get on my nerves the most. She's spending most of her time whining and bemoaning her lack of power. If the Scoobies have a major weak link right now I'd have to go with her. At least Xander and Dawn would do whatever Buffy asks of them without complaining about it. She's going to have to get over her self pity and grow up in a hurry if she plans on being of any use.

See, now that's sweet. I really have to work on writing sweet. :-) That was a beautifully romantic fanfic. Are we going to get a sequel when he gets home from the Initiative Free Clinic, or will he have a headache? Tee hee. I crack myself up.

I agree that Buffy has to choose to have the chip removed. But I don't imagine the chip deteriorating would kill Spike. How can it? He's already dead. Julie said, "I always thought that if left there for his whole eternal life it would have to cause brain damage by rusting or something eventually... ". We've seen time after time that any physical damage that happens to a vampire is healed after awhile. So the chip would hurt Spike for awhile and then, when it went dormant or died, Spike's brain should regenerate again, shouldn't it? If true, then the whole decision would be based more on curtailing the pain Spike is suffering, rather than saving his life.

First, did anyone notice Spike's hair was starting to grow out? More than I think they would let go if it wasn't deliberate. I don't want hime to go totally brown poodle-head, but i do like the two-tone longer look. That said. I'm bored. Everything is happening at a snails pace. I'm tired of the mini-slayers taking up most of the space. And the field trip to the desert was just lame. The BB could start back up at any moment and you send your troops off to sing cumbaya and trade fashion tips with the archaic prototype of your deeply freudian existence? I can't see that really helping.(Now if it had been to allow Buffy and Spike to play jailer and prisoner chained in the basement, I could be persuaded to change my mind). I also thought both the Spike and Willow stuff took way too much time to get to the point. The Willow/Warren stuff was interesting, but drawn out. In my mind the difference between killing Warren the multiple murderer, and killing Mongo the threatening demon is pretty thin. Call me a Situational Ethicist. On the the same rant, I admit I used to enjoy the occasionally screaming Spike, but enough is enough! It's time to put away the wounded warrior and get Spike back on his feet. What's happening, or rather not, right now is a shameful waste of talent. Good guy or bad, put Spike back into play dammit. And give the man his Emmy!
