VM FANS!
Finally, a new ep!
And here's your discussion thread.
The show doesn't air until 11pm around here, and then I've got to hurry and tap out a review . . . so you probably won't be seeing me around these parts until tomorrow.
But . . . enjoy!

I think this episode was supposed to air before Echoll's Family Christmas. Do you think that affects the story line?

I think this episode was supposed to air before Echoll's Family Christmas. Do you think that affects the story line? Nope. I think it works fine where it is. And may I mention I think it was a great episode? A really nicely blended dual storyline. This series just keeps getting stronger! *goes off to watch the end of his taped Pacers game* Vlad

This series just keeps getting stronger! *goes off to watch the end of his taped Pacers game* Vlad Not too much. I agree that it was out of order. The Christmas stuff was a giveaway. The biggest thing was that she had additional proof against Clarence Weidman--which makes her accosting of Jake in the library make even more sense. (Allie just got home--I'll be back shortly) Also agree with Vlad--those who gave up on the show are missing some of the best stuff. All those people pretending to be someone they aren't--the whole false image thing. The question as to whether Veronica is V. Mars or V. Kane. Now we finally have the (true) extreme case---switched identities. And done so wonderfully---Mac looked just like the mom and the little sister (Westing Game--love it!). More to say about that later.

The Christmas stuff isn't that bad - a lot of folks still have their stuff up after the holiday is done. But I do think the confrontation of Mr. Kane would be stronger after that final scene where she sent the pictures of Clarence Wiedman. Confronting Kane would be her first salvo. "Game on!" Anyone except me hear an echo of her dad when she said that? Just as solid and strong as when Keith gets the bad guy at the end. His voice is just so calm and totally convincing when he says "Stop now or I will shoot you". Excellent acting job! Really really liked this ep. Vlad is so right that this show keeps getting stronger. The scenes with Mac and her birth mom and sister were so touching. Both Mac and the mom knowing full well what is going on, and knowing the other one knows, and no one saying it out loud. And the little sister just there and happy and totally oblivious. I thought it was very moving. Also, very nice fake out with making us think that the deputy was the killer. Saying that Veronica "shouldn't trust me" and the talk about having a band and pick up lines. Clever, clever, clever. So the strangler case is a nice metaphor for Abel K maybe? Sorta odd wacko guy that they think did it, circumstancial evidence and he is icky and odd, but isn't the murderer. Keith the one who doesn't think he did it, the deputy trying to get a confession, etc. Lola

So anyone think that the title is more than just a word play riff on the movie to highlight the serial killer theme?
Like, is Sheriff Lamb keeping silent about something to do with Lily's murder? Not just incompetent, but complicit?

I think this episode was supposed to air before Echoll's Family Christmas. Do you think that affects the story line? I was watching for that a little ,but didn't see anything that hurt it. I really enjoyed this one - I liked seeing Sheriff Lamb again, and Keith Mars just MAKES the show for me...he is such a fine actor. Everything he does is interesting. I thought for a bit that the cute young deputy was the killer - obviously we were meant to wonder... Loved to see 'Willow' again - but how SAD this story was! I wonder if the little girl really is the younger sister of the actress who plays Mac. They looked so much alike, and Mac reminds me so much of Willow. Veronica continues to disturb me. Her 'anything is ok if my end goal is good' attitude makes me like her less than I could. Even when she found out that her theft of the evidence caused the deputy to be suspended, it seemed like she was expressing 'oh crap, that's too bad, wish there had been another way.' And selling the info on the kids' parents REALLY left a bad taste in my mouth. I am liking the supporting characters better than the heroine....hmmm...when has that ever happened before... OH! Next week's promo? Was mine the ONLY high school without a secret robed society? (If you don't count Rainbow Girls)

Keith the one who doesn't think he did it, the deputy trying to get a confession, etc. Lola I doubt that we will get to see the follow up, but as she is almost 18 there really isn't any reason why Mac can't or shouldn't pursue at the very least a friendship with the biological mom and the sister. Yeah, she'd have to admit to her parents that she knows the score, but lots of adopted kids wind up, as adults, having relationships with the biological parent. The other girl would most likely be weirded out somewhat, but she still wouldn't have to know the real facts -- Mac could just become the younger sister's babysitter for example. And when they both go off to college what's to stop Mac and the mom from writing, calling, etc. So--yes, sad maybe to find out and wonder "what if" but she's still had a pretty good upbringing which has shaped her in ways she can't even know--and now she has a chance to know the other family as well. I think good can come of it.

Like the whole thing with finding out who is one's real family--there are no accidental storylines here.

Veronica continues to disturb me. Her 'anything is ok if my end goal is good' attitude makes me like her less than I could. Agreed somewhat. Can't help thinking that Keith would be disappointed in her detecting activities. I can see her point about the truth being the truth and kids deserving to know if their parents are being hypocritical. (Her defense being that she didn't cause the parents' behavior--she's just revealing it.) But Veronica is also being hypocritical because she chose not to know the truth when she had the chance. And, sorry, but I have no sympathy for the parents. Personally I think they should own up to the fact that they made bad decisions or got into some trouble as kids. Just that fact does not make it all right for their own kids, nor does it undermine them from saying, "yeah, this was a dumb stunt and now that I'm older and wiser I'm trying to protect you from the same pain and consequences."

(If you don't count Rainbow Girls) **snortle about the Rainbow Girls** I had a real "flashback to BtVS season 7" moment when we saw the previews! I think we're deliberately being shown cracks in Veronica's surface hardness, too though. The way she looks taken aback and a bit dismayed by Mac's suggestion that they start a web site to get the dirt on other people. The way it is so hard for her to give the news to Mac about the baby switch. Her uneasiness when crashing the party and then pulling Mac out before she said too much, and so on. Lola I just loved Weevil's babbling at the station! That hard rock being played too loud and this will bring down property values and I want to speak to your supervisor and so on. Too cute!

True - thanks for reminding me -Veronica DID have a line there she wouldn't cross. And yes, Weevil was great!

I just loved Weevil's babbling at the station! That hard rock being played too loud and this will bring down property values and I want to speak to your supervisor and so on. Too cute! Oh yes. It took me a split second: "huh, what' Weevil doing....?....oh, yeah, helping Veronica out." She does have good friends doesn't she: Wallace, Weevil, Mac and the voice thing. Um, question: how did she recognize Clarence Weidmans' voice? I know she called his office once, but did she talk to him or a secretary. And, even if him---she can remember and place the voice? Good on her. And, yes, Weevil was funny. Even a little Weevil is good.

Next week's promo? Was mine the ONLY high school without a secret robed society? (If you don't count Rainbow Girls) I like the fact that Veronica has her faults, it makes her character so much more real to me. I enjoyed the episode for the terrific acting, one-liners, etc. but after the fantastic Echoll's Christmas episode, I thought it was a bit of a let down. Maybe it was the abscence of Logan but at least Weevil got a nice scene. Very well down and the lines were hilarious! I must say that I thought the casting was a little too much - I mean everyone in one family blonde, everyone in the other family brunette - I have to wonder if this was deliberate. Almost to rub it in our faces the theme of hidden identities, etc. I also disliked the hand against the window thing. I thought it was a little too Lifetime television for Veronica Mars. I was sad for Mac but I truly wanted a confrontation. With that said Keith - EC was terrific. I loved his panic over where VM was and his tracking her down. It was a good fake out with Leo. I thought it was a little too obvious but then I've seen way too many CSI episodes. Kristen Bell was fabulous as always.
