Y'know... if he is having issues with acne, you combine that with his changed physique and you're looking at some of the classic symptoms of steroid abuse. Yes - I would guess steroid abuse too but since I don't really know I haven't said anything. But it seems classic. Actually, it was unfair of me to presume abuse--he could have been taking a high dosage of something like prednizone for completely legitimate reasons and experienced these exact symptoms.

Actually, it was unfair of me to presume abuse--he could have been taking a high dosage of something like prednizone for completely legitimate reasons and experienced these exact symptoms. I don't know anything about this actor and his ambitions or hobbies, etc., but it would seem very, very odd for him to abuse steriods. He's not a baseball player looking to increase his RBI, or a body-builder looking to better define his pecs. He's an actor, and gaining weight and getting acne is a very counterproductive thing to do. So - despite the classic symptoms, I would tend to think it was not steriod abuse, because I can't think of how bulking up would serve him (in fact, it would do him a disservice in his chosen career). He has no motive for the crime, to use VM speak.

And Wallace - hi dude. His storyline is a bit cliche and boring and I'm confused as to what actually happened. Did he cheat? Did he just let the professor know right away he cheated? Because I'm sorry if Wallace did indeed cheat how could the Professor open the exam and immediately know this? I think Wallace blew the whistle on the scam. And Wallace wants to be a mechanical engineer? Really? Huh. When we first saw the tutor, I was thinking this was a guy that would sell exams. But then I was thrown off a bit because old exams are often fair game, but then during the exam, Wallace, who had been struggling, was the first one to finish by far, indicating that he had seen and memorized those exact questions before. And the look between him and the professor was very significant; the professor knew and Wallace knew what he had done. And I guess Wallace ratted out the "tutor" to mitigate his situation? I thought the whole plotline added a lot of depth to Wallace's character. He's a good guy, but he doesn't always do the right thing, folks. I have to rewatch to try to figure out what happened with Wallace. I was pretty confused, but was just worried about him and the struggles he seems to be having, regardless. As you say, old exams are fair game. To me, it's the prof, not the student, who is "cheating" when a prof uses the same old exam over and over. Why should Wallace get in trouble for looking at an old exam? I looked at old exams in Engineering school, and I even had profs who handed out their old exams, or "mock exams" as study guides. Maybe I was just lucky, but I never had a prof who used the same old exam over and over. Looking at old exams was just helpful in understanding what kind of material you could expect, and what sort of level of understanding the prof expected. But then, the whole Wallace-thing was unrealistic. Your very first Engineering course - your "intro to Mech Eng" or (Chem Eng, or Elec Eng, etc) is not a hard course and is mostly to prep you and help you get a good idea what is ahead. It's pure cake. Wallace should be having no trouble with such a class. If he is having trouble, then he should probably not only quit Engineering School, but quit college all together. In fact, it is surprising he managed to get his High School Diploma.

My impressions before reading the thread: Okay - I loved this episode although I'm a little leery about the final reveal. Still - noir wise and character wise - VM was full on snarky, twisted and corrupted last night. First off Cliff was there. Hello Cliff - we've missed you so much. Really? Huh. I didn't think Wallace did cheat. It would be more incharacter for him to have set up his roommate in order to set things right with the class, especially if the teacher grades on a curve. Not going to be a good semester for Wallace if that's the case. EETAH! Yeah, Veronica was really pissed about the necklace. Loved the little girl's comment: "This school really does suck, if you can't figure out I put the gum there." Something like that. Like father, like daughter. That scene when Veronica rips off the necklace - right before that we see the dad saying goodbye to his daughter, and it struck me how much it looked like Veronica and her dad mght have when she was small and how important it is to have a dad who's a straight arrow. What I'm thinking is that someone did get raped initially and the perp got away with it - and it was someone in the fraternity and that's why it's getting targetted by what I think are girls that are playacting. Hee! Cliff rocks! I hope Halloween and the fact that GG was a rerun didn't hurt the ratings too badly. Can't they at least wait until after sweeps to make a decision?

My kids always get the predictions right. Tom pegged campus security as soon as they made an appearance. So, Wallace came clean to the prof AND turned in the cheater/facilitator---wonder what the fallout is going to be? So, I don't think the final girl was actually raped. She was one of the protesting feministas right? I think she set it up to look like she was raped to keep the heat and PR up on the issue. That's why she lied about the boyfriend. Maybe. But that assumes the same thing Veronica did--that the kid in the photo has (or goes by) an Asian first and/or last name. 'Cause it's not impossible that his parents either gave him a completely "American" name or that he adopted one in order to better fit in. So we could end up finding out that the girl's boyfriend and the guy in the photo are two entirely different people.

I probably shouldn’t type when I am about to fall on my laptop (and I really need to go to bed right now if I want to get through the day at work tomorrow) but whoa! S1 references overload.
Kinda cool to see multiple main cast members in trouble as the potential suspects for the MotW.
Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.
ETA: Overload - is that a negative word or a positive word or something that can be used both ways? I meant it in a good way.
Will be back with more later.

One last thing: if this episode was the key in terms of a full season pickup, couldn't the CW have had the decency to show a new episode of Gilmore Girls as a lead-in? Or did they want to see if the show could hold up on its own? Gilmore Girls premiered a week earlier than VM so this was just a natural breakdown to get both shows into November sweeps. Ok, but didn't you say pretty recently that this episode was "make or break" when it comes to a full-season renewal? Assuming that buzz is accurate, it doesn't seem to bode well that CW didn't give them a new episode lead-in from GG. Zap2it didn't even list VM's ratings, just noting CW's 1.2 rating in viewers 18-49. Yikes.

They might wait one more week before making a final decision and see what it does with a new GG as a leadin but they have to make a decision on the back 9 soon for filming purposes.

VM scored a 1.6 (1.2 in the 18-49 demo). The show retained about 85% of GG's audience. And, hey, it was Halloween. Surely that has a negative impact on ratings overall. (Okay, I'm grasping at straws here.) I dunno. They can cancel, and I'll be happy we got a year and a half more than I thought we'd get out of VM. But I'll be very surprised if they've got anything on the sidelines that will do any better, or even as good.

(i'm pretty sure he used claire's name at the end.)

Yes, Wayne Wu (I am making up that name, it was something like that) is Claire's boyfriend, but Wayne Wu is NOT the name of the guy in the picture. Remember how Veronica figured out the name of the guy in the pic by a process of elimination? So she could have it wrong. In other words, the roommate is not lying. Wayne Wu lives there, and he is Claire's boyfriend.

What I'm thinking is that someone did get raped initially and the perp got away with it - and it was someone in the fraternity and that's why it's getting targetted by what I think are girls that are playacting. Whoa!. That's a scary thought. From the traumatized reactions of the alleged victims we've seen back in "Rapes of Graff" and Parker's rape, I think the rapes, or most of them, are real. [the jury is still our on Claire's veracity as of the end of this episode]. Someone may be targeting the fraternity as the scapegoat. Someone may be trying to send a message, especially with the shaved heads. Think "Two Women": collaborators/consorters with the enemy get publicly humiliated with the shaved head mark of shame. Who is the "enemy" here? Who might have a message to send? I'm inclined to expect a big twist on the reveal - that a woman/women were involved. It might even be a group - one to drug, another or others to waylay and "attack"/simulate a rape and then shave the victim. We still don't have much to go on with reported physical evidence. Was there semen or any DNA ever found? leftylady
