I think she means that Veronica has misidentified the Asian guy in the picture. Yes, Wayne Wu (I am making up that name, it was something like that) is Claire's boyfriend, but Wayne Wu is NOT the name of the guy in the picture. Remember how Veronica figured out the name of the guy in the pic by a process of elimination? So she could have it wrong. In other words, the roommate is not lying. Wayne Wu lives there, and he is Claire's boyfriend. but i thought veronica showed the picture to the roommate? i guess maybe i'm remembering wrong. OK, I double checked, and she *does* show the roommate the ATM photo. So, according to the roommate: 1) Wang Yi is the guy in the picture, and 2) he is Claire's boyfriend. So either Veronica did her sleuthing very carefully or she got lucky this time.

Veronica does show the roomie the pic, but does she really make clear that she thinks the guy in the pic in Wang Yi, and does he confirm that? I have to rewatch, but my memory is that she asks for Wang Yi, shows the pic - but that neither the roomie nor Veronica say anything about the indentity of the guy in the pic . . . I will try to rewatch later. I am watching the Buckeye pre-game, and obviously I can't turn that off . . .

I'm just not sure she said anything to him naming the guy in the pic. She asks for Wang Yi . . . so what? It wouldn't necessarily mean, to the roommate, that she thinks the guy in the pic is Wang. Well, again - I have to rewatch. If all she did is ask for Wang, and show the pic . . . then Sara's theory that Wang is not the guy in the pic is still good, IMO. Why should the roommate add, "Oh, by the way, that's not Wang?"

Nothing to add to all the fine discussion here (as usual--we don't watch until the weekend when Rich is home, so most everything always seems to have been said by then).
But did want to comment on Francis Capra's appearance. I was concerned after seeing him last night--he looked so unwell.
With some google-fu I found several references to a leg injury during the break from shooting, and either an operation and treatment with prednisone, or treatment with prednisone so he could postpone the operation till the next hiatus.
I hope he gets well soon--his personal history is mighty painful, and I love his work as Eli. He's one of my favorite characters, especially in scenes with Veronica or Logan.
Who am I kidding--all the main characters on VM are my favorites. ;D

Loved your review, Fotada!! #claps#
I agree with you that Wallace changed his mind about cheating. At first I thought that maybe he had set up his roommate and the guy he bought the answers from, but he did honestly seem to be struggling with the class and was tempted by an easy grade.
Loved the OMWF comparisons and Joss's Halloween - 'come as you aren't' them - from the cute little girl, who ends up being not so angelic, to the campus cops who stole from the students - all not who they seemed to be at first glance.
Really nice outlining of all the places in the episode that have people playing parts!

First, she sat there all doe-eyed, just blowing bubbles with her gum, and then she turned into this complete bitca! Hilarious! I really enjoyed this episode, not the least because of Cliff. He was ON FIRE during this episode. It was perfect that he be in an ep about performing and using your voice to create a character.

Great review, Fotada!
The twop also thinks that Wallace wrote a note to the professor on his exam. I have to say, that sounds the most plausible, now that I'm thinking about it.
Interesting! I wonder if that will play out.
The thing about Charleston and Claire's boyfriend occurred to me too. I missed the campus cop being Asian as well. I wonder if there really is some connection or if Rob Thomas is doing his best to reflect a diverse community.

Ohhh I loved your very theatrical review Fotada and the lovely link to OMWF and Joss.
And I'm intrigued by your Asian role list. Interesting.
I think you, and others circling around this idea, are correct in that there is some sort of payback going on - at least when it comes to Claire's role in the mystery. This little quirk is really the first thing I have found interesting in this whole boring (sorry Parker - I like you, I do) rape mystery.
What's behind the curtain? Who is playing a role?
Again #clap# on another great review.

The reason I figured he wrote his prof a note is because of the strange look on the teacher's face when he opened the exam booklet. He looked interested, and then a little surprised. I don't think he would have had that immediate reaction if he'd just been reading answers to the test. But we shall see! The reason I think we're being fed a clue is because twice now Veronica has pointed out their uniqueness. Charleston is the only Asian in the Pi Sigs, and Claire's boyfriend is the only Asian in Southern CA who went to Camp Waterloo. It doesn't necessarily mean anything, but set my antennae quivering.

Thanks so much for your feedback!! It really means a lot to me.

What a fun and insightful review, Fotada!
Your use of Halloween imagery and Buffy wisdom was very apt and the recurring themes of roles and role reversal were perfect! "Come as you aren't" could very well be considered a theme for VM as a whole, but particularly for this ep!
Again, this seems a very appropriate recurring idea that college kids/young adults are exploring. Who am I? Who do I want to be? Trying on different adult roles to see what fits them best.
I loved all your examples of roles, but particularly the less noticed ones. The guy "playing" a tutor; Lamb as robot or Mr. Microphone; the possible implications for the ongoing mystery of the rapist.
Lines like this?
Worth their weight in gold! ;D Funny, but also insightful.
You definitely pointed out some things I hadn't noticed before. I loved the scenes with V and the snarky little girl, but totally missed how she also cast Veronica in a false role. That of a snooty out-of-town college kid.
Excellent job again, Fotada - brava!

Thanks so much, Lola!! You are too kind. I really enjoyed this episode, and it was lot of fun thinking about the various ways each character put on a performance. I love the noir aspect of the show, but the over-the-top bits (like Cliff using his monster truck announcer voice, and Lamb doing the Robot) were the best!! And it was just perfect the way it magnified the way, as you pointed out so astutely, college students try on different roles on a path of self-discovery.
