Yep. Having the machines sitting in a machine and flying it was always a bit . . . hmmmm. I guess the only time that it does make sense is if the ship is more of a transport thing. Like they're gonna be landing somewhere else and then need to move around in a more flexible manner. But for just the small, fast, zippy fighters? This new idea of a living thing fused into the flyer is much much smarter. Not to mention cooler. Lola Actually, in the original '78 BSG, Cylons were not "robots", they were cyborgs... a reptilian race that took their young and embedded them with machinery and the like, ala the Borg. Some young were used just for their brains. As each Cylon went up the heiarchy, it had another brain to use... the Cylon Centurians (the fighters) had a single brain, the assistant/beaurocrats had 2 and the High Command cylons had three. So, it DID make some sense for their original ships to be separate from themselves; on the other hand, with the new Cylons it makes sense for the raiders to be "one" with their ships. Vlad

I've always wondered why have a robot warrior that walks? It's just too easy to trip them and destroy them when they're on the ground. Why not have one that's round and flys. It could have eyes and weapons ports all around it, and "hands" that come out of the main core if needed.

I'm not reading, cause I haven't seen the episode yet. Actually, just posting to be counted as a BSG fan, even though I haven't spent much time posting on this thread yet! I finally got caught up on all the episodes when SciFi did the Marathon last Tuesday. Although if someone has the Pilot on tape or MPG disc, I'd really like to see it, since I missed part of it before. Now, I just need to catch up on all of Havoc's reviews.

I had a friend over friday evening and converted him. Didn't have to say much. He was an old BSG fan and very skeptical; but, he wanted to see for himself, so we hooked him up with recorded copies of the aired episodes and watched the first part of the miniseries while doint that. He was a convert after the first two hours and seemed to quickly overcome or push past all his objections about it. We ended up talking quite a bit about it afterward and he went home and watched them all after that. And I do mean All LOL. Even my mom, who really doesn't like SciFi, was impressed with the writing and acting on the new BSG. It's so much more realistic than the original. Just the fact that finding water would be so difficult, "like finding a grain of salt on a beach." In the old show, they had populated planets everywhere they turned.

What an incredible episode! My heart is still in my throat - wow...this show has it all - the acting, the plotting, the special effects are outstanding, and I'm already so locked into the characters. What happened? Was there some memo that went out that said 'it's ok to have excellent tv again.? I am going to try really hard to watch this when everyone else does next week so I can participate in the talking. Looking forward to your review of this one havoc! But only on cable networks--except for Lost. ;D

Have so far hooked my sister and one person at work. I think folks who liked the old series, folks who never saw or liked the old series, and even folks who don't necessarily usually like SF would all find something that interests them here.
