Lots of stuff in this episode. Love the editing juxtaposition this week. Worked much better than last week. The show is back, yay! Scar as the white whale. Kat's interesting, I didn't really remember her before. But no call sign for her? Just Kat? Kat as Starbuck's foil? Interesting Boomer/Starbuck conversation. Immortality vs humanity. Raiders as sentient. Humans weren't thinking that way. And neither were we. Kara and Lee. Yummy! But ended too soon. "Fine with the dead guys, it's the living ones you can't deal with" Parallels between Starbuck here and Apollo in Resurrection Ship. A lot of people in lj-land didn't like the episode's non-linear structure. Did that bother anyone here? To tell you the truth, it really didn't bother me because I don't tend to think linearly. Kat was one of the recruits that was trained (with Hot Dog) after whatsishead(Flattop?) made his thousandth landing, and the missle fell, and blew up a whole bunch of pilots: when they were really really hard up for pilots. She was also the one who was so cranked up on amphetamine-type-substances, that she had to be waved off three times, then made a horrible sligtly sideways "landing".

I think we've only just begun to think about and see all the possibilities that opened up. **nods a lot** I actually like episodes/stories like this - where we jump right in and then backtrack to see how we got there. It's one of the reasons (just one) why I soooooo love the Firefly episode "Out of Gas".

And they do have some similarities, in that Starbuck has acted in a sort-of similar way to Tigh, for example. But there are some important differences, mostly in the ways in which Cat went over the line in a public way to undermine Starbuck's authority. My memory is kind of spotty, but didn't Starbuck rag on Tigh's drinking in public and even go so far as to hit him? I think near the end, Starbuck saw a lot of herself in Kat, and it pulled her up short. In a poker game, yes. But as far as I remember, she never dissed him to his face in an "official" location. Like in a briefing. Snark, yes. But not calling his authority into question in the same way. That said, I totally agree with you about Starbuck seeing herself in Kat! That's probably why they knock heads so much and so often. I also wonder if she will start to get a bit more insight into Tigh. Or at least enough insight to keep herself from going down the same path as him.

Again, this was not one of my favorite episodes. In fact, I haven't really been enjoying the show since "Home, Part II". But I thought the Kat/Starbuck interplay was a little interesting.

Given the scarcity/rationing of just about everything how does Starbuck have access to seemingly unlimited amounts of alcohol.
Yeah, a minor nitpick but it bugged me.

Oh, liquor would be the first thing that would be made in quantity, bootlegged and bought by the officers - ala M.A.S.H. She doesn't waste her money on clothes and makeup either.

I think another difference between Kat and Starbuck (and I think someone here might have said it already) is that Starbuck is a soldier - and Kat, well, she is a civilian, basically.
