Thank you. P.S. Original movies made by Sci-Fi are just...............unbelieveably horrid. Darklight was indescribably bad. (Think Pinata Island except with less understandable plot and everything dark and murky.) I've alo tried watching "The Core" and "Dog Soldiers". I can only hope that the FarScape miniseries is being done by the original company and only aired on Sci-Fi. Who knows about Earthsea--at least we know the text from which it is being taken! No wonder they think Star-gate is so superior--it is--compared to their "original" stuff. LOL! Having "watched" "Pinata Island" -- which became hyterically funny, other than the chance to see NB's muscles -- if you say that something is worse than that, well -- it's gotta be bad!
I'm "watching":
Sunday: Nothing; probably the Food Network while I read fanfic;
Monday: Everwood -- mostly for Harold Abbott, because I'm finding the primary storylines unbelievably dull;
Tuesday: GG; Father of the Pride; L&O:SVU;
Wednesday: I'll give Lost a try; after that, L&O (though so far, Dennis Farina doesn't thrill me as a "replacement" for Jerry Orbach as Lenny Briscoe;
Thursday: Joey, unless and until it gets cancelled and/or Tru Calling comes back;
Friday: Monk, and I too will miss Bitty Schram as Sharona (anyone else love her performance in A League of Their Own? She seemed impossibly young there);
Saturday: Nothing.
Otherwise, it's going to be lots of L&O re-runs and the Food Network for me![/size]

I liked the mythology and the Lilith creature. Maybe it's because I'm a Shiri Appleby fan. There were a few rought spots, but I thought it was very "Dark Angel" in flavor. Plus, I thought it was neat when she transformed into the winged creature and used her darklight to defeat the doctor. The red plague thing was a little much, tho. It wasn't Buffy, tho - no wit and funny. No friends. If they made it into a series, I'd watch it to see where they went with the story.

I just listened to FRESH AIR on NPR from yesterday, Mon 9/20. It included a review of the Emmys and the new Fall Season by David Bianculli in which he singled out "Lost" as one of only two new network shows worth watching (the other being that Housewives thingy...can't remember the name of it....Desparate Housewives??? that doesn't premeir until next month). In any case, if you'd like to listen to his review of Lost, follow this link to the archived show and scroll down to the listing for the review: freshair.npr.org/day_fa.jhtml?display=day&todayDate=09/20/2004deborah

I have to agree with everything you said here. I really liked this and was wondering if this were the start of a series or perhaps testing the waters for something. Steve didn't like it. He couldn't buy her "attititude shift" and some other things in the story.

He was delightful and thoughtful and brought lots and lots of clips. He started hyping Buffy from the day he previewed it and still thinks it's just about the best thing ever done on TV. He also talked (back in May) about how there was nothing coming at (at that point) on the horizon that was worth watching. All the hype over Lost makes me nervous. Expectations can be a scary thing. Better to be under the radar and end up surprising people. When you are expected to be hot--any deviation from the expectations is portrayed as failure.

Okay, I've got another question.
If.....if....Joss decided in 5 or 10 years that he had more stories to tell in the Buffyverse and wanted to pick up the characters post-Chosen and post-NFA but (necessarily) had to recast all the parts....would you watch? (Yes/No and why?)
*******************************************
Another version of the question: would you rather have:
1. Buffy and Angel back with new actors;
2. the same actors but the storyline pick up 10 years down the line with middle-aged actors;
3. the same universe but at some unspecified future time using other characters-- new slayers and watchers? (maybe guest parts with previous actors filling in backstory--very ala ST: Next Generation)
4. none of the above--rather have Joss use his talents to create something completely new.
5. Your scenario

Your scenario I'm going with either Option 3 or 4. I don't think I'd deal at all well with replacement actors, 'cause the ones we had created those characters so well - I'd never be able to stop seeing SMG as Buffy or AA as Fred, for example.

He couldn't buy her "attititude shift" and some other things in the story. I think her attitude shift was very plausible, in light of the "memory wipe" thing they did to her. I liked that she had a "teacher" to guide her, even though he was supposed to kill her at first, but he saw the goodness in her and couldn't. A series would be good to flesh out the characters. I think they tried to pack too much stuff in 2 hours of television movie time.

My vision of who these characters are is wrapped up so much in who they are/look like/etc., that'd I'd be hard pressed to believe a character that didn't have their "likeness." And I'd have to answer #3 & #4

Awww, that's nice to know about David Bianculli. It may be naiviete, but I'm not too terribly worried about early critical acclaim being the kiss of death for "Lost." BtVS won critical acclaim and lasted 5 years on the WB and 2 more on UPN before ending under its own volition. And "Lost" has the benefit of being a major network show. Well, at least it's not FOX. Of course, as I'm typing this I recognize how their major network affiliation can work against them; ABC will probably require big ratings from the get go in order to be considered viable by them. Oh well, never mind. Worry away, then. I'm looking forward to the Premeir tonight. I must make sure I get home before 7 for a change. deborah

I will be watching Veronica Mars.
There is a rebroadcast of the premiere set for Friday at 9pm/8central. Then the show will be on Tuesday. Try not to miss the premiere--it's got a ton of backstory which you'll need for future eps.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
It had me totally hooked within 5 minutes.
Dialogue: Clever, witty, captivating. Used a word I have to look up. *****
Kristen Bell: 5 stars *****
Complex, edgy, dark, violent in a very subtle and therefore much more frightening way. ****
Complex characters, complex relationships, complex main plot; intriguing subplots, intriguing secondary characters. *****
Okay, I totally saw one of the plot "twists" coming (much like the pilot being hauled out of the cockpit) but several excellent OMG did they really say/do that moments--totally off the wall and unexpected. **** Fantasy element--heroine is far more than any real high school girl could ever be****
Possibility for discussion of morality; human behavior, good, evil, man's inhumanity to man, family relationships, endless: ******
She fights "real" monsters, not metaphorical ones which makes it uncomfortable at times.
Would I stop what I was doing to watch: Absolutely
Would I watch this and tape whatever else was on: You betcha.
Please, somebody else tell me they watched and give me some feedback.
*************************************
On "LOST" I kept waiting for something to happen. In the same 43 minutes on Veronica Mars I couldn't catch my breath with all that was happening. It felt like 90 minutes. Not a wasted second.
Why did I only give it a 4.5 out of 5? Because I'm not sure subsequent episodes can live up to the the pilot.
Please, give it a try. If you don't like it, fine. But I don't think it's going to take 3 or 4 or 5 episodes to come to any conclusions.
I repeat: I was hooked, well, really, from the very first scene. Veronica in a classroom, asleep on her desk after a long night of "crime-fighting". The teacher zeroes in on her. She wakes up and........ just watch!

I'll definitely be watching "Lost" next week. I'm intrigued by the characters and the beast in the jungle. I can't wait until the reality of their situation really sinks in. I give 4 out of 5 stars.
Also, "Darklight" is on again tonight. ;D

Ok. So why aren't we watching Joan of Arcadia? Is it because there's too much about God and religion in it? You take the God element out of it and replace with vampires and you got Buffy/Angel. I finally watched the downloaded premiere. I think I had tears about 4 times during the episode. Heartwrenching storyline about son who was paralyzed after he and his friend (who was driving drunk) got in a car accident which left the son paralyzed. Now, the friend is suing the family for emotional distress over having caused the accident - but they blame the son because "he should have stopped him from driving drunk". Messed up. Good storyline about the mother finding God and her husband struggling with his faith. Of course, there's also Joan still seeing God in various forms and relationship with her group of friends. Some funny stuff. Some sad stuff. A lot of great moments. It's definitely a "Must See". I haven't watched it much before this year. But I will be from now on. If you want to, you can download the first 2 episodes of this year here. www.suprnova.org/
