Listen to Des, Penny! 8 years from now, I need to call you and I can't call you unless I know your number. Oooooooh, and she sort of knows what's going on, just a bit. Because that was a knowing look in her eye. If she doesn't know what's up, she knows something is up. And how damn lucky is it that Sayid is a communications expert guy? 'Cuz otherwise he would be shit out of luck and die like a rat. And Desmond in both times knows that things are OK. "I'm on a boat. I've been on an island. Is that really you?" "Yes, yes it is." "You believe me. You still care about me." "I've been looking for you for the past 3 years. I know about the island. I've been researching." Spoke to your friend Charley. I love you Penny, I've always loved you. I'll find you. I'll come back to you. Mutual "I promise"s. Wow. This is . . . unexpectedly moving for me. I mean really moving. "Sayid. It was enough." Oh wow! If anything goes wong, Demond Hume will be my constant.

Excellent episode; even if I didn't understand all the ramifications. The actor who plays Desmond did a great job; and Sayid was wonderful, also swoonworthy.
I vaguely remember Penelope meeting Charlie back in the U.K., but what was the significance of it?
I really loved the last five minutes, the Desmond/Penelope connection was so romantic, but very convincing too. I certainly hope they're reunited!
The actor who plays Faraday could be Eric Bana's smaller brother.
So who left the door open for our heroes?

Desmond-centric? They're gonna lose Naomi's corpse out the door if they're not careful. Oh. Desmond's gone unstuck again. Double-unstuck, it appears. Oh, I like that phrase. Double-unstuck. And now with Penny as his constant, his anchor, he is double-stuck.

Juliet kicks ass. And Charlotte's got great eyes. "Maybe if you talk real slow, we'll be able to follow" Such a great line. And delivered most excellently. So dry and flat. ;D

Okay, so they jumped forward in time about a day. Dude, you put him on speakerphone?! Uh.. radiation?! Well, yes. Not amnesia. Billy Pilgrimitis. Ah, the wonders of Thorazine. You not comin' nowheres near me with no needle in your hand, creepy doctor bastard! *sigh* Back to the past. So he doesn't have his normal future memories, despite all the hopping about. Yeah, I'd give up and say "Woohoo! Hello to the crazy!" after hopping around like that. Poor Desmond. So Farraday is trying to work out the slip? Oh, he's sending him to meet himself. THIS IS SO AWESOME WASN'T THAT SO AMAZINGLY AWESOME!! Sending him to meet himself and then, then! He's leaves himself a note to use Desmond as his own constant!!!! It's like a snake forever eating its own tail!

So . . . is this like "Normal Again"? Very strange. I'd say it's even freakier than Normal Again.

Wow, Amazing.. What does Dan remind me of? "the things Oxford frowns upon" And this explains the memory issues. Retrograde amnesia? Unstick eloise in time! I'm right! Vonnegut! "Oh, this doesn't do jack for you, Desmond. But it makes loads of progress for my project" So he's Minkowski? "Under strict orders never to answer it" Penelope knows about them, but she's lost control of them. Maybe they're not really her people, but she's got a connection, a "man on the boat" so to speak?

So Widmore got the journal and then sent the balloon with Henry Gale on it to the island from the journal information.

whew. Still got Penny's address. And Penelope listens. "Eight years from now, I need to call you, nad I can't call you if I don't have that number" Wow. Eight years. No wonder she was named Penelope. **nods** It's just too wonderful to see how very apt her name is. I actually got just a bit teary. The mention of Charlie started it and then Des and Penny were just so happy and crying-smiling as they said they loved each other and promised to find each other again and . . . well. It was very nice.

Excellent episode; even if I didn't understand all the ramifications. The actor who plays Desmond did a great job; and Sayid was wonderful, also swoonworthy. Both of them had a tough acting challenge in this ep; being confused and trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Even more so than is usual on Lost. I'm still not sure about that interaction with Charlie in the past in London, running into them. But in this ep, I think when Penelope said she talked to his friend Charlie she meant when she called the underground station just befoe he died. Totally romantic and, as you say, real feeling as well.
Most excellent question! I'm thinking maybe someone's "man on the boat". But was it Ben's or Penny's?

So Widmore got the journal and then sent the balloon with Henry Gale on it to the island from the journal information. **nods** And has been trying all sorts of ways to get on the island for years, I'll bet. But, is Widmore affiliated with Dharma, trying to take back the island from Benry? Or is Widmore a competitor / enemy of Dharma?

But, is Widmore affiliated with Dharma, trying to take back the island from Benry? Or is Widmore a competitor / enemy of Dharma? Whatever it is, it's clear he's involved somehow. I'm thinking Penny and he will end up at odds over more than Desmond and that she got her information on the island from stuff in her father's possession. I could be wrong though. Hey, Sara? You are too much, m'dear.

Some interesting tidbits and triva related to the episode from lostpedia.com: - 423 Cheyne Walk is near where Desmond's photograph with Penny was taken. In addition, Widmore Industries has its offices in the same neighborhood. ("Flashes Before Your Eyes"). Cheyne Walk is a famous street in London known for its famous inhabitants. Residents have included Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, George Eliot, Dante Rossetti, and Henry James (who wrote The Turn of the Screw).
- After the auctioning of the Black Rock ledger, some of Charles Dickens' belongings are put up for bidding.
- Jeremy Davies, who portrays Daniel Faraday, also portrays Tom-Tom, the main character in the movie The Million Dollar Hotel. Tom-Tom is in love with a woman named Eloise.
- The auction lot number of the Black Rock diary is 2342.
- Faraday says that while Desmond was in a catatonic state in his room at Oxford, 75 minutes had passed. Desmond perceived the same amount of time as 5 minutes. The ratio of 75:5 is equivalent to 15:1. At the auction, Widmore is bidder number 755, the same numbers as the time ratio.
- Charlotte earned her doctorate at Oxford. Daniel taught there.
- The series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation ["All Good Things"] features Captain Picard in three different timelines. He becomes unstuck in time, like Desmond and Billy Pilgrim. As he bounces back and forth, he becomes aware of a temporal anomaly in all three timelines. In essence, this anomaly is The Constant. Only when he identifies the constant and directly contacts it is he able to stay in one timeline, ignorant of his future. Also, Desmond's trip to contact Daniel at Oxford is reminiscent of Picard's trip to visit Data at Cambridge. Damon Lindelof confirmed that "All Good Things" was a big influence in writing "The Constant" here.
