I'm wondering if I should re-watch this finale, keeping in mind that it's Booth's personal "fanfic" that we are seeing. That's a good point Sue. I'm still feeling like there's too much emphasis on the MotW and not enough on the team. I did like the stuff with Wendell. Sweet has settled in for me as a great way to explore B&B's characters. Yeah, I just watched the 2nd ep and enjoyed seeing the tall black guy from Veronica Mars. I still like the chemistry between B&B and all the supporting cast. However, the camera really did linger longer than necessary on the decomposing body in the trunk. [Quibble: if the guy in the trunk had been tortured until dead I'm a bit unclear on why you would bother to haul the body back to the car and stuff him in the trunk?] But score another one for the analysts who are consistently underestimated by the field agents. [KM -- are you out of school today? Because of the G20?]

Yep---G-20 vacay for me. My school is in the heart of Oakland, a couple blocks from the big *working dinner* at the Phipps conservatory last nite.
Me, I thought it was a whole lotta hype about not much (fears of massive unrest, traffic jams, whatnot---the city was a ghost town, which I think was terrible for world leaders to see. Oh well.)

I'm really enjoying Bones this year. I think it's one of their best seasons. Maybe it's the competition from "Castle" (btw, think about it -- 2 of the best flirtatious, semi-comedic, charismatic male leads currently on TV (to say nothing of Alyson Hannigan) -- alumni of the Joss-verse. CBS and NBC really ought to be preparing vehicles for Alan Tudyk and Nick Brendan; or Alexis Denisoff. Anyway, they are really focusing on the Booth-Brennan dynamic and it's been great. I like that they are acknowledging that the B-B relationship is (and should be) headed somewhere. All of the supporting characters are aware of it. Booth is pretty aware, but uncertain of how to take the next step. I'm just enjoying it. I like the rotating squints in Zach's position in the lab and the absence of Gormagon. I'm still sorry about the break-up between Angela and ? (hey it's 4 am, names escape me) but maybe they felt there couldn't be 2 cute couples. Cam is sort of underused and at loose ends, but I was never quite sure why she was added to begin with. 2 questions: What is up with DB's jaw, especially the left side -- it's very puffy -- looks like he has an inflamed tooth or something, but it's been that way for weeks. And, is Emily Deschanel pregnant? Or maybe it's just the necklines she's wearing -- she's giving Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy on House) a run for her money. OH, and I really loved how the extra squint (Clark?) got humanized via his love for his grandfather -- couldn't help himself.

Having been intrigued by the episode of Bones I saw on my flight home, and noticing they were showing it on TNT, I have been catching up on the show over the past few weeks.
I just finished watching the third season, and I totally get why everyone was so pissed off. I could find nothing, except a very brief moment in the first (I think) season, where the FBI was checking security clearance and asked Zach if he would murder if presented with a logical argument in favor. And his response indicated he would have to check with Brennan and Hodgins, I think. It certainly didn't help that they never presented the "logical" argument that convinced him, or that he was still fairly sympathetic even when he admitted what he'd done. And this is from someone who knew about this plot ages before I actually watched the show. Even knowing that? It made no sense.
There were a few more things that bothered me about those final two episodes. The biggest one, which I didn't see anyone else mention within this thread, is the TOTALLY CLICHED overweight character who obsesses over a guy and is completely insane. Thank you, but I've seen that dozens of times and it never gets less grrr for me. It would be different if TV (as it does more often in England) showed women in a variety of shapes and sizes and levels of attractiveness. Further, Bones shoots her in the throat, and thinks nothing more about it, nor do we see any consequences to her actions. Is that realistic? Didn't Booth have to go to therapy for shooting an ice cream truck? Haven't they made a huge deal about Bones not getting to carry a gun?
I'll not stop watching, 'cause it is kind of interesting, in a potato-chip kind of way. It doesn't own me like other shows have done, but it has its moments.

Thank you, but I've seen that dozens of times and it never gets less grrr for me. Well, personally I totally agree. The only other time most American TV seems to show overweight women is if they need a plotline where some sociopath/terrorist/whatever is living "undercover"/"incognito"/whatever and he (it's always a he) "picked" an overweight woman for his cover because (I've even heard this actually said as dialogue) "she'd be less likely to ask questions." It's one of the things I really appreciate about British TV in comparison. ... So, I started watching Bones again this season after friends told me that it had gotten much better since the lows of the past season or two. I've been enjoying it a lot more than I was when I quit watching, though I do feel the show's still a bit uneven (in particular I thought the next to last episode was a bit blah, not least because of the awkward product placement). I think Cam was added to the cast because the writers wanted someone who had more of a law enforcement background on the team as well as someone who worked well with flesh, which none of the team members seemed to specialize in prior to her arrival. I imagine they figured a character who had a past with Booth would kind of "spice things up" a bit as well.

Very enjoyable episode. Next week's ep looks like it has a lot of promise. And, yes, I did indeed enjoy it immensely. Bones trying to protect Booth's idealism and patriotism. Hodgins being all stand up "I'll always love you and be here for you" guy for Angela. And who doesn't like a bit of Richard T. Jones?

Another highly enjoyable Bones episode.
I know folks are really hyped on Castle these days. And I don't see any need for "competition" between these two shows but, IMO, the current writing on Bones is possibly better than the writing on Castle.
Of course, Bones has had a much longer timeline to establish relationships. The stuff with Booth and his brother and Brennan actually (naively) expecting all of the Booth's pronouncements and attitudes to be logically consistent was lovely.
And the love on his face as he watched her give her toast was priceless.
Really very good.
[And, imo, Cam remains "filler" -- necessary for moving the story along at times but very 2 dimensional. Also, she's neck and neck with Lisa Cuddy for "most inappropriate NON-business attire in the workplace."]

Another highly enjoyable Bones episode. Agreed! I'm really glad I started watching it again this season. I hope that show has improved. I thought the writing in the pilot was quite weak (and yes, I know, pilots often stumble as writers and actors first try to get their footing). I thought that was really sweet. In many ways Brennan really is quite naive, isn't she? It seemed like Jared and Padme noticed, too. Indeed. I still sometimes miss Goodman from way back in S1. I continue to get that it is advantageous for the set-up of the show to have someone who specializes in "flesh" (as they always phrase it), but I don't see why that person couldn't have been another employee instead of a new boss. And I alternate between finding Cam's behavior (both in and outside of work) inappropriate and boring. I'm still annoyed with how she couldn't just tell Michelle way back in the Christmas episode that she wanted her to stay home in the first place, instead of waiting till she was about to leave! I hesitate to imagine a contest between the two of them for that prize...

I think I'm the only one here who has always like Cam. I think she is the perfect imperfect foil to Bones.
And being the 'fleshy' part of the scientific team, I think her wardrobe is selected specifically to reflect that, which I just realized, because I too wondered why they dress her up like that.
What I liked best in this episode was the use of music when Bones was analyzing the bones, especially. So important and not many shows do it well.

Odd episode.
But I did appreciate the writers using Brennan and Booth as stand-ins for a civil discussion on faith and reason (not faith VS reason).
Not in depth, of course, just making the case that you can have sincere people with sincerely different approaches to belief.
And the Muslim character is also written even-handedly and intelligently.
It's sort of like the anti-24 where all of the characters are comicly overdrawn heroes and villains.
