I think I'm the only one here who has always like Cam. I think she is the perfect imperfect foil to Bones. And being the 'fleshy' part of the scientific team, I think her wardrobe is selected specifically to reflect that, which I just realized, because I too wondered why they dress her up like that. What I liked best in this episode was the use of music when Bones was analyzing the bones, especially. So important and not many shows do it well. I didn't like Cam when she first appeared. I thought she was too busy bullying people and telling them to do stuff just because she could, but after she an Bones had their settling of the differences she became an interesting and likable addition to the cast. Especially after we lost Zach.

Okay, no.
No, no, no, no, and no.
We are now to believe that, during their first case, Booth and Brennan kissed, nearly had sex, and then came to dislike one another so much that they couldn't be in the same room for a year?
I'm sorry, but no. Such a past would have come up, somehow, in some way, in the last four years, especially as they started getting really close as friends. There's simply no way it could have happened that way. Boo, hiss, writers.
I was so hoping they were just messing with Sweets. But, no. The writers were just trying to make something really hard to write into something really easy.
Furthermore, you can't resolve a four-year-old setup with a two-minute-long scene like that. Especially one where Brennan made NO sense at all. No logical sense (hell, did she ever even give a REASON for her refusal to even consider giving it a shot with Booth?), and no emotional sense.
Brennan can be really emotional, it's true, but she's NEVER incoherent. Never has she been unable to voice her thoughts - it's completely out of character for her. She would have had a better explanation than "I'm not like you."
And Booth won't be able to move on. Not while working with her. Love, it doesn't work that way. The writers had better acknowledge that.
Finally, the entire episode, their reading of Sweets' manuscript, was a way to artificially force the issue - push Booth into a corner where he was lying, finally, if he didn't own up to his feelings. It wasn't at all organic.
The only good thing about the episode was the acting. Especially in that last scene, but, really, all of the actors captured their early selves so beautifully.
Oh, and...retconning timeline futz-up: We have always been given to understand that Cam and Brennan never met before Cam came to work at the Jeffersonian, when, clearly, that's not true. CAM, at least, would have remembered, and probably have mentioned it.

A lot felt forced and out of character and left me While watching I kept thinking about the easy duo bantering on Castle and how every plot move in the characters' personal lives just fits so well. The Bones anniversary suffered even more by comparison. Too bad. I like DB. He's come so far from the early days on Buffy.

Anyone know the song they play in the 'queen bee' episode where they are in the gym... The song before Seal. I can never quite catch the lyrics enough to do a lyric search.

The Bones anniversary suffered even more by comparison. Too bad. I like DB. He's come so far from the early days on Buffy. I think Bones needs to stick to what it does best...to what it is, in essence: a character-driven police procedural. When they try to do arcs, big twists, or origin stuff? It never ever seems to work: Gormagon (should have been Hodgins or Sweets, if anyone; two throwaway lines, one from season 1, and one from Max's trial, do not constitute foreshadowing), the alternate universe episode of last season, this April Fools-ish thing. I think I've been permanently spoiled by Joss. It makes me quite impatient with characterization, backstory, continuity, foreshadowing, and arcs if they are not properly done.

Boy was I wrong on the lyrics! rofl! But I do agree on the preference for the procedural episodes rather than the Big Bad arcs.

I caught up on past seasons so I could watch the current one in real time. I don't like the retconning but I did like the AU and how everybody's characters were re-interpreted in Booth's brain.
But as much as I was looking forward to this season - having only finished the last one recently - I am really not into it. It feels "off" somehow.

Interesting writing and chacterization going on re Booth's new girlfriend. Gorgeous, brilliant and so nice. And if I think I see a little bit of wistfulness in Bone's face when she observes them together I can also almost see her thinking "well, I told Booth I didn't want the relationship with him so I'm glad (or at least I will intellectually decide to be glad) that he has found himself such a truly nice girl. Also, at the beginning of the episode when they were being all lovey-dovey I immediately said "oh, she's so going to die." And, indeed she was shot, but she didn't die then or later. So kudos to the writers for: 1. making me actually like the new girlfriend even though I was sort of pulling for B&B to get together last season. 2. making me like the relationship portrayed between Booth and new girl (NG). 3. making the less than predictable choice to make NG friends with Bones and not kill her (yet, at least -- if they do eventually kill her off it will be interesting to see both Booth and Bones grieve).
On the other hand it seems like the supporting characters have had even less than usual to do.

OK, so I think they did a pretty good job on resolving the story line...at least in television terms (which is not necessarily realistic, but characterization is fairly consistent). Here's what annoyed the living hell out of me: 1) That whole scene at the jewelry store; ie, if you really love someone, you'll spend a huge amount of money you can't afford on a ring and NOT CARE. 2) THROWING THE EXPENSIVE RING IN THE RIVER. Who does that? Gah!

But I don't think Booth is among them as you'd have to totally ruled by emotion and have a weak grasp on reality. But #2 -- not everyone does that either. Personally, I would find it more loveable to spend what I could afford rather than go into debt -- which is NOT a good way to carry on a relationship. But then, "pragmatic" is my middle name.

It occurs to me that maybe DeBeers is a sponsor of the show. I mean, they've had numerous plugs for Toyota (sponsor), and a whole subplot built around the film Avatar (20th Century Fox films), so it wouldn't be out of the way for them to have DeBeers or something as a sponsor. Still, it grossed me out, and I'm not very pragmatic myself.

Geeeeeeeez.
Scary build up of suspense. Writers benefit from the fact that Joss has conditioned me to think it could be anyone. Fortunately they went with a somewhat "red-shirt" but it was still quite sad.
