Dad's free now, finally. I've been alternately imagining a big grey wolf loping through the forest, or maybe a bear if they're made grey anywhere. Perhaps a wolf, as Mom has said she wants to howl like one for him. I asked her if she wanted my sister and me to leave so she could do it alone at some point, but she said no, as she's got a lot of alone time coming up when we go home. We are going to have a meal with Chris and Darcy in a little bit, to honor him. I hope they're not making artichoke lasagna. Peace and love to everyone. This is Mom and Dad right after they got married.

Emily rolled over from her back to her front. I am both very pleased, and very worried about the non-baby-proofness of our house. Yeah, you better get on that. They scoot and climb and are curious about absolutely everything. My son, right after he started crawling, once got stuck behind the sofa. I hadn't thought about the fact that he - in just the minute or so I had my eyes off him - would crawl around one end table, crawl behind the sofa, then (because of the way the couch was positioned) would not be able to get out the other end, or back up. I could hear him crying but couldn't see him - of course, I located him very quickly, but . . . well, I learned that they just go everywhere!

It's a nice image, although I don't imagine it takes away any of your sense of loss. My sympathy to you, your sister, your mom. If he lived so far-- away did the kids know him very well? Losing grandparents can be tough.

A Certain Fluffycat decided at approximately 4AM that she was bored and wanted company. I was too cold, tired and annoyed to get out of bed and find the squirt bottle and the doorknob, so I laid there and listened to her until 5:30, which is official Cat Feeding Time. Now she's settled in the exact center of our bed. I've got news for her; after lunch, that bed is MINE. She can sleep in the den. Stupid cat. I went out, had breakfast, brought home leftovers, went out again, ran errands. Julia, . S'assy Erinificus, I'm sure you were magnificent. S'cubies in general, . Lunch, nap, chores. and I was just reminded that I still haven't taken my pain meds today. PS When I got into the car and turned on the ignition, the radio, of course came on. There was this male voice nattering on about human blood and asking "are you afraid?". Oh , I thought, Morning Edition is doing something about Twilight? Then a familiar voice said, "No. Actually I'm bored." I found out on the repeat that it was a piece about the Fair Use Doctrine, using Buffy vs Edward as an example. Heh.PPS Rachael, congratulations to Ms Emily on her great achievement. Good luck with the baby-proofing! If anybody can find this piece on the NPR website would you please post a link?
Maybe it's just not up yet. www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123684026

It was kind of awesome, after 3 days of Whedon papers (I even went to a Twilight panel. Hmm.). IT felt like the whole world had gone Buffy...

May the memorial meal be neither artichoke lasagna nor sheet cake, but a fitting tribute to the love you have for him, and his love for you all.

The basketball game was kind of dead so there weren't many people getting H1N1 shots. But I did do one. Technique was pretty bad, but the guy didn't seem like he was in any pain and he's vaccinated and all, so...yay?
