Yup. Smith has been burning up the Twitter with his rants. I gotta say, I don't think he's doing himself any favors. I mean, I get why he's pissed, and Southwest did not handle the situation correctly . . . but dear God! An airline did you wrong? I mean, who isn't in that club?

Warning: swallow all liquids before reading. www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/15/awesome-kid-gets-detentio_n_462837.html(10 seconds or less to read. Work safe, except for possible laughing out loud.) [And, since my kids had to explain the reference to me a while back I'd ask that someone who can explain it succinctly do so. I don't want to do it here because it ruins the joke ahead of time -- also, I actually forget the details of where it originated.] I also enjoyed the top 9 douche-y things John Mayer has said.

I guess there is something extra humiliating about being unboarded because of weight. I mean...yikes. Can you imagine how embarrassing? I must say, too, there is something kind of awesome about a Hollywood director flying Southwest in the first place.

We have used that phrase many a time on this board, and I gotta say, it's good to get confirmation on my suspicion that we are essentially middle-school students.

I get that, but I dunno that it is really worse than spending 3hrs in an airplane without air-conditioning, on the tarmack, on a 100 deg day in Dallas . . . as I did last summer. And many people have experienced worse than that (4 - 9 hr delays, loads of luggage lost, and more). I get that he's angry, and I get why. Southwest handled it incorrectly; he had every right to complain, and to be angry. But yeah, I think he's over-reacting and, for me, he's pushed past the place where I could continue to have sympathy for him. I think he's gotten to the place where he's starting to look like an ass. (IMO, IMO, IMO.)

(IMO, IMO, IMO.) It seemed to me to have gone past "this is bad behavior" to "how could they have done this to ME." I may be reading between the lines but once it took on the tone of personal entitlement instead of just "isn't this a horrid way to treat any customer," I lost some of my sympathy for him. I mean, he's gotten way more apology than the average customer so continuing to use his celebrity to push the outrage (and we all know that nobody would be paying this much attention to the average Joe complaining) makes me lose sympathy in the "well, if that's the worst thing that has ever happened to you" way.... I sympathize, really, I totally get where he is coming from. Now settle down and move on to uninsured cancer patients, or Haiti orphans, ya know. I suspect that if Stewart and Colbert weren't in reruns they would mock him.

Either you're a fan of his or you're not. Probably would never do the same thing myself, even if I were semi-famous, but I am finding the back and forth rather interesting.

Well, I don't mean to be dissing everything about him, or even everything he's done in response to this incident. I'm just not a fan of his overall response to this particular incident. I wouldn't extend it past that to suppose what he's like in general or anything. I'd never heard of the guy, until this.
