So, women (and men, if any are about) of S'cubiedom: Why is it that my husband should not use the same mop to clean up cat piss/crap in the garage as he uses to mop the kitchen floor? I know y'all will know this. I've sent him to CVS for a new mop head, 'cause I am not mopping the kitchen with dissolved cat litter dust and animal waste.

Also - mad props to you for following your instincts where Emily is concerned. Those will serve you well in the future, momma.

Well, the last surviving member of the generation above us died today. All our parents, aunts and uncles are now gone. This was Jim's favorite uncle, but he was 93, had serious Alzheimer's and his wife died about a year ago. Interestingly, all of the younger siblings and sibling-in-laws died first. But then his wife and all 6 of her siblings had survived polio when young, with varying degrees of long-term consequences, (in the 20's and early 30's) which probably didn't contribute to longevity. He's being buried with full military honors at Arlington on June 28 (there is a "line"). So we are going, partly to honor him, to see the burial, and to visit with siblings and cousins. I am dreading this decade, where my mom and 5 of my aunts/uncles hit their 80's and 90's. Which - yay them! And yay for good genes!

Unless you have a little homemaker personal autoclave tm, there's no way you can get all the E coli and other little cat-intestine flora, as well as the decomposers and pathogens blowing in from outside which proliferate in the cat feces, not to mention the smell of cat pee which never comes out, and will transfer to anything more pourous than lab glass... He's a scientist, he could do a swab, man. Julia, mops keep as much dirt as they transfer to the water...

Well . . . that's a puzzler . . . hmmmm . . . what could it be . . . I think I might have figured it out, but let me keep reading and see if another S'cubie has come up with it. And may I say? And I say this with love and affection and knowing they feel the same way about us: Men are sometimes truly unfathomable. It is a good thing they are cute.

Thank you all for your good thoughts.
My dad was found by a friend on Monday. He went in his sleep. Mom and I flew out to his town yesterday and are taking care of the arrangements, etc. I'm sorry I couldn't say anything before, but I had to inform others who might have reacted poorly.

I know y'all will know this. I've sent him to CVS for a new mop head, 'cause I am not mopping the kitchen with dissolved cat litter dust and animal waste. Especially cats! My nephew spent more than a week in the hospital when he was 3 from some cat-related disease he picked up from their (the kids') sandbox -- but which of course was used by outdoor cats in the neighborhood. My sister had no cats and was sort of clueless because we'd had a sandbox when we were young... I'd ask him if he would dry the dishes with the same dish-towel that he'd just used to wipe sweat off of his face (yes, Jim has used the dish towel to wipe sweat and then replaced it which I watched!) but I fear his answer.
