Today is looking... interesting. 1) Last night I stayed up later than is my wont, because it was too hot to sleep. 2) At approximately 3AM, I was awakened by the Younger Daughter because, she said, her heart was pounding and she felt weird. I got her to sit down, drink a glass of milk, and breathe slowly until she felt better. At which point she went back to bed, and from all appearances, right back to sleep. I, however, could not get back to sleep at all. I suspect she woke up suddenly and was a bit freaked. At least after that week of tests, I know her heart is healthy. 3) At 4:50AM, the alarm went off, as usual. I staggered out to the kitchen, started the kettle, began sorting laundry and heard little scratching noises from the other side of the wall. Shadow had somehow gotten shut into my little studio room last night. Shadow being Shadow, she hadn't asked to be let out again until this morning. Cats. 4) Then I also discovered that the front door was not only unlocked, but standing ajar. If the deadbolt isn't thrown (which The Husband is supposed to do before he goes to bed ) and the door isn't quite shut, the change in air pressure when another door is opened can pop the front door open. This is probably what happened. The house is not haunted. So it's going to be One of Those Days. I can already tell. Anne, but not smiley P.S. And 9 Chickweed Lane, a comic I follow, is making me want to cry. I have no time for crying, especially over a comic strip.

Doctor today. Would give much to be able to wash my hair. Maybe I'll go to a shop and pay someone. Seems wasteful, but I feel grungy and my hair's stringy. It's not wasteful, it's necessary to proper healing that you feel well and comfortable, at least as much as possible. Go get fussed over, you deserve it. What she said.

She's a she, but she is also 17, which makes her pretty nigh ancient in human years, so no kittens for her, I don't think. And she's an indoor cat with no other cats around. Plus the fact that she's fixed. She used to hang out down the basement a lot, and just suddenly started hanging out in my bedroom closet. She has been either jumping into my dirty laundry basket (because apparently she doesn't think there's quite enough cat hair on my clothes already), or hiding behind shoe boxes in the back corner. Very strange, my cat. But that's what closets and shoe boxes are for, didn't you know that? I do now! *squishes you*

So, Sunday night. Leverage -- yes. Anybody going to watch 2 new shows on ABC: Scoundrels and The Gates (vampires and suburbia?) Plus 4 hours (I think, 2 parts anyway) of The Phantom on SyFy What are y'all going to watch? Dang! Forgot about The Gates. Anyone watch it? Busy weekend. My kids were all busy with their fun things. Lew was in a Green Fete festival - harping his fermented food. Lee and Chris were playing at a Veteran's motorcycle festival/benefit in their band. Nick and I filled in the rest of the time with golf. Congrats to the cutey from Northern Ireland who won the U.S. Open! Graeme McDowellClass act, down to earth, and typically funny and talkative Irish guy with a cute dimple when he smiles (he went to the University of Alabama), who brought his dad to Pebble Beach to watch him win. A Frenchman came in second. Was anyone's tournament to win yesterday, but he held his own throughout - and it was his first Open appearance. Ok - enough about golf! *hugs to all* - especially emptynestor, Sue. I hear ya girl. I still have twinges where I feel something is missing....like lots more dirty laundry and a huge food bill. Seriously, it's a mother's curse, I think. It gets better. In the future when they come home to visit, you'll wish they would cut the visit short.

What an incredible melt down by the other guy. Ah. Poor Dustin Johnson (25 years young)....66 the day before - which is almost the record for 18 holes there, to 82 on the final day - playing in the lead group? OUCH. Felt really bad for him. Interestingly, the day before Johnny Miller said that he would have a hard time on Sunday if he is stressed at all because he is a tall golfer, and those long arms and legs are hard to control if you have any bit of tension in your body. Add that to the fact that he is a long-hitter and Pebble Beach is to be played conservatively if it's to be beat, it was a recipe for disaster. Long ball hitters do not like t lay up. Tiger also kept trying for those birdies. He would have won by one if he had just hit par for the day. The crowd really got behind Tiger on the 3rd day and stayed with him to the end. Maybe it was too much pressure and a little bit of guilt that he is so well loved no matter what that threw him.

I didn't say good morning, oh well.
The rain, the grass pollen, the no-good-news-ever about the Gulf...
*sigh*
Julia, I've been wallowing in the coverage of the Swedish Royal Wedding, which is as escapist as possible

I blame TLo: Mad Hattery dedicated to the hats of the world's royalty. Julia, check out Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, who's never found a hat too big.
