Just saw a CNN report on Comic-Con while at breakfast downstairs in the hotel breakfast room (yes, that's right, Monnie & Lola, my hotel outside beautiful DAYTON has a BREAKFAST ROOM, with a color TV!! And I am allowed to watch it anytime!! So: BITE ME!!!). It was quite fun to watch. I looked for our intrepid attenders, but did not see them in the footage . . . unless that was Monnie or Lola sleeping with a folded newspaper over her face, sitting on a fold out chair on the sidewalk, waiting to get in the first day. They showed the most outrageous people of course, and did a little mild "razzing" of the attendees, though mostly, they talked about what a big deal it was for San Diego, how much money it brought it, and how many celebrities of all sorts attended.

I think my online class project is finished. I hope it's finished, because I spent most of last evening putting away all the supplies and cleaning up my little room, or at least the sewing cabinet, which doubles as a small worktable when I put a board over the hole for the sewing machine. There will be photos in due course. In aid of which, I cut up some white foamboard and taped the bits together to make a lightbox of sorts, which I will use with my Ottlights. But that's later when I can use the kitchen table without someone wanting to actually, you know, eat on it. This evening, we had an Amazon blowout buy; Katherine bought some anime DVDs with more of her graduation swag ( Soul Eater episodes 1-3, whatever that is), and I threw in The Reluctant Widow (I'm in the process of replacing our rattiest Heyers with shiny new ones). Then there was a separate order of a new book about Kate Bush due out on August 1, another book about Kate Bush which is a critical analysis of Hounds of Love, and since we'd already hit the free shipping point, The Grand Sophy. I've been picking up the rest of the worst-worn Heyers at local Borderses with coupons, but those two are completely out of stock everywhere around here. What the heck, they were all bought used years ago, and some of them are beyond my best repair skills. Besides, Paul has to go to Maryland week after next, so I think we both deserve a treat. Have a good evening and a lovely weekend, S'cubies. Yes, treat yourselves . . . heck go to Maryland with him, and go to the bay, and let him work while you have fun and shop and such. Maryland is pretty. Also, as an added perk for visitors, they take pictures of your car and send them to your home address a few weeks later - yes, on the one hand, you have to pay $$$ for a traffic violation, but on the other hand, you do have a nice memento of your visit. Congrats on finishing your assignment. You are most tenacious and talented. Alas, going with isn't an option - it's business, and he's leaving on the Tuesday and returning on the Thursday. I can't travel anywhere anyway, due to family obligations and all that. I can, on the other hand, run away from home this morning, which I will be doing shortly, for at least an hour anyway.

Only halfway thru and OMG, I can't begin to say how HUGE and AMAZING and OMG this thing is!! Like: * being in a room with Stan Freberg where he sings some of his old songs and showing clips of his funny commercials and SINGING NEW SONGS FROM A NEW CD HE MADE WITH HIS WIFE! (Also? I did not know he was the voice of Cecil the sea-sick sea serpent) * watching the cast of White Collar being just too too TOO adorable with each other on stage * learning that JUST AN HOUR BEFORE THEY CAME ON STAGE that USA had given the greenlight to a pre-quel movie about Sam from Burn Notice * watching Dulé Hill tap-dance with Jason Samuels Smith (from Bring in Da Noise, etc.) LIVE ON STAGE IN FRONT OF ME!! * or maybe you'd find it interesting that in the Joss panel, when it was "let the audience ask questions time", someone got up and was all "who is your favorite actor to work with" and Joss is all "you're putting me in a rough spot, hem, haw . . . OK, Nathan Fillion" and the crowd screams and then Joss is all "no, really, that's Nathan Fillion" and IT WAS!! HE'D DRESSED UP IN A COAT AND HAT AND FUNNY MUSTACHE!!! (Oh, and of course we also learned that Joss will be directing the Avengers movie. ;-D) * or how about, say, the Big Bang Theory panel MODERATED BY WILL WHEATON opening with all 4000 of us in the room doing a group sing-along of the shows theme song . . . LED BY THE BARENAKED LADIES LIVE ON STAGE IN FRONT OF US!!!! **flails** I can't even be coherent enough to think of more amazing examples of stuff . . . .the floating foamy men and the costumes and the beautiful city and the HUGE HUGE HUGE SIZE OF COMIC CON!! **flails and falls over** Oh, except we think maybe Stan Lee is staying on our floor, possibly next door. 'Cuz he was in the hall practically outside our doors when we came back to the room on Thursday. ok, we're only mostly sure it was him, but damn, it looked like him and sounded like him and there was a guy hovering by him begin kind of 'hey, what do you want' like he could be a handler of some kind, so there!**flails moer**

Oh, the close ups of the water on the tiger lilies are stunning! Also? The birds!! The birds!!! (We had a childhood friend who was sooooo traumatized by that movie. For a whole summer she'd just run everytime she was outside and saw a bird. ;D )

I have just tossed the last remnants of my last experiment as a postdoc into the trash. I have three trays of fly stocks labeled "French Lab Stocks". I have an office and a lab space (lab space and office are still semi-occupied by other people, but my stuff is welcome to mingle with theirs during transition). I have two and a half days left here, as Emily's babysitter is on vacation next week, so I'm only gonna be in lab to clean out my desk and bench on Tuesday/Thursday. I have filled out my paperwork at SJ State. I already have three e-mails from students wanting to work (for free) in my lab. I am an Assistant Professor of Biology, tenure-tracked. WOO HOOO!! So so so so wonderful! Congrats and all my best vibes (which you will not need because you will so ROCK being the most awesomest of awesome Assistant Professors of Biology, tenure-tracked, evah!)

Yesterday was last day of shadowing. Leaving Wednesday to go back to school. Will be very sad to be leaving WY, but happy to be getting back to having reliable internet again. Oy. How exciting that school is starting back up soon! And just think, in the not too distant future you will be back in WY, and not just shadowing!

Is there any chance I could borrow them after Anne? I even bought them from iTunes but Jim won't watch on the computer but I bet he would watch them on the giant TV with me. And we have a local friend who will lend us the new ones (by which means she puts on DVD I don't know but she justifies by the knowledge that she WILL purchase the official DVDs once they come out.) If you have an iPod, you can transfer them to your iPod and watch them on TV. It's really easy: Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! Thanks for the link, Michelle!

How do you make the transmission fall out of a new-ish Camry?
Or something?
The extent to which I do not want to sit in the car all the way to Lake Chelan with Franklin who can't drive the ten minutes to the Westside without having to rest after cannot be expressed in words.
Julia, stupid man, anyway.

Hi S'cubes,
Today would have been Jan's 69th birthday. I'm off in a few minutes for an evening with our friends. We will raise a glass (or several) to her memory. Hope everyone's doing OK here. Hugs to those who need them {{Spring}}. Kudos to those with milestones. Love to all.

All so very, very cool!! OMG!! It sounds like you two are having a fantastic time (without me or Michelle). Which is fine, I mean, we want you to have a great time. I went to the Dayton Mall today, and shopped, and got a hair cut. Yes, that's right. The DAYTON MALL, the one and only! And I shopped at JC Penney and ORVIS! Yes, you heard it right: ORVIS (so BITE ME*, Lola & Monnie!!!). The cashier told me she was going to Manchester, VT soon for some sort of training or meeting. She was bragging how she had been there before and what a great little town it was, with fun shopping and of course, I was able to reply: "Oh yes, I have been to Manchester several times - I have a friend who lives there." I should have told her about my boyfriend Buddy, but I figured I had impressed her enough. *This does not reflect any negative thoughts or resentments or envy, but is meant in the nicest way possible.(Seriously, Lola & Monnie - love you guys, keep the reports comin'!!!)
