This should be interesting, indeed. Julia, from the deeper recesses of Nerd Rage, if noting else.

I have just tossed the last remnants of my last experiment as a postdoc into the trash. I have three trays of fly stocks labeled "French Lab Stocks". I have an office and a lab space (lab space and office are still semi-occupied by other people, but my stuff is welcome to mingle with theirs during transition). I have two and a half days left here, as Emily's babysitter is on vacation next week, so I'm only gonna be in lab to clean out my desk and bench on Tuesday/Thursday. Yes, yes you do. Yes, yes, you have. Yes, yes you are. You are soooo cool!

It won't let me see them unless I register for Snapfish. You want me to set up our Google account to put pics on it? Uh, I might use google account for the rest of the weekend, but I'm not going back and re-uploading the pics I've already done into google. I just finished uploading today's to Snapfish. Will post that link in my next post. What's this? Outright defiance of my sensible advice??!!?? I protest!!! I demand you reload every last picture onto Google, plus go back in time and take at least 5 dozen more pics of those same days, and load those onto Google as well. Monnie, how are we going to get through a trip to foreign places together, if you're going to be all unreasonable and insist on using your own brain like this??

Comic con pics for ThursdayWe didn't even try to get into the JJ Abrams/Joss panel. We plan on trying to get into Joss's solo panel tomorrow. BIG day tomorrow--we'll pretty much be staying in one ballroom from 9:30am until 6:00pm. Not allowed to leave & keep out seats unless we leave and come back within the same panel--which means no leaving to go to the bathroom or get food unless it's during a panel. Oy. The first pics are around the WB booth in the exhibit hall. And then there's the Green Hornet or Green Lantern (I can't keep it straight) body thingy that was really cool. Then the exhibit for The Walking Dead, from AMC--new zombie apocalypse show. Then pics from the White Collar and Psych panels (both were hilarious and I now have a MASSIVE crush on Tim DeKay--I was already crushing on him, but omg, he is SO adorable). Both shows had really great gag reels to share. Oh, also? One of the men from Tears for Fears started the Psych panel off by singing "Shout" and then James and Dule came out and sang with him. And then at the end of the panel Dule was tap dancing with a choreographer they had used on the show. Very cool. We also caught the last half of the Burn Notice panel, but I didn't get any pics. Then there's a pic of a couple in really cool costume, and then a ton of pics of my most favorite thing so far, the cute foamy floaty men. As we were walking outside back to our hotel we kept seeing these white things floating way up in the sky. We at first thought they were balloons or something, but as we saw closer ones we realized they were some kind of foam. The as we turned a corner we saw the two machines that were generating them. They'd gently form these little foam men then release them. They'd float off so sweetly. I was completely enchanted. I WANT ONE. Except not the one in that last pic--he turned out a little creepy. It looks like a photo of a shadow or something. Tonight we went to a screening and sing along party for Dr. Horrible. Much fun was had. Tomorrow is Caprica, Big Bang Theory, Bones, The Joss Whedon Experience, EW presents Women Who Kick Ass, True Blood, and possibly a screening of Batman: Under the Red Hood. Well, the internet in my hotel room outside Dayton is kinda sucky. An aside: That's right, MONNIE & LOLA, who are traveling without the other M's - I am in Dayton, in a beautiful Hampton Inn Hotel Room, with a view of I-75 and a Speedway gas station outside my window, so BITE ME!!!!So I am having trouble viewing all your pics, but I will look at them when I get home on Sunday, or try again later. I put a comment on your pics from yesterday.

Hi S'cubies! Nice pictures, Monnie - but i want Lola and Monnie face time! Diane - whatever you decide to do, will be the right thing. Spring - Thinking about you today. Extra hugs and love to you. It's a steam bath out there today. Good for the skin, if nothing else. Also....?
TGIFF!!!Thanks, Karen. Today is the anniversary day, so I had quite a few ups and downs, but am feeling OK this particular instant. It's been quite the roller-coaster of a day. My mom-in-law and I went to the cemetery, where we did some grass trimming and cleaning off of the three graves - her husband, her son/my husband, and my son. It was . . . surreal at best, gut wrenching at worst, but I needed to do it and I'm glad we did it. Then we went to buy her a flat-screen TV with a wall mount. She has a huge old monster of a TV, in a tiny room, so this is going to work out well. There was a moment of panic when I went to find my MIL in the restroom - I had finished the transaction with the cashier, and she went to the restroom in this huge store . . . and she wasn't there. She wasn't anywhere to be found. She has a walker and she's no speed demon, so . . . wtf??!! Where, where, where was she? I went back to the Audio-Visuals area, I went out by the car, I asked people if they had seen her, I went back to the restroom and looked in all the stalls, etc., etc. But it turned out that she didn't understand the directions to the restroom correctly, and ended up way on the other end of the store, where there were also restrooms. Anyhow, I found her when it occured to me to ask: "Do you have any other restrooms?" Whew!!

Yesterday was last day of shadowing. Leaving Wednesday to go back to school. Will be very sad to be leaving WY, but happy to be getting back to having reliable internet again. Oy. So - did you learn a lot? What's the biggest thing you learned?

I have filled out my paperwork at SJ State. I already have three e-mails from students wanting to work (for free) in my lab. I am an Assistant Professor of Biology, tenure-tracked.

I think my online class project is finished. I hope it's finished, because I spent most of last evening putting away all the supplies and cleaning up my little room, or at least the sewing cabinet, which doubles as a small worktable when I put a board over the hole for the sewing machine. There will be photos in due course. In aid of which, I cut up some white foamboard and taped the bits together to make a lightbox of sorts, which I will use with my Ottlights. But that's later when I can use the kitchen table without someone wanting to actually, you know, eat on it. This evening, we had an Amazon blowout buy; Katherine bought some anime DVDs with more of her graduation swag ( Soul Eater episodes 1-3, whatever that is), and I threw in The Reluctant Widow (I'm in the process of replacing our rattiest Heyers with shiny new ones). Then there was a separate order of a new book about Kate Bush due out on August 1, another book about Kate Bush which is a critical analysis of Hounds of Love, and since we'd already hit the free shipping point, The Grand Sophy. I've been picking up the rest of the worst-worn Heyers at local Borderses with coupons, but those two are completely out of stock everywhere around here. What the heck, they were all bought used years ago, and some of them are beyond my best repair skills. Besides, Paul has to go to Maryland week after next, so I think we both deserve a treat. Have a good evening and a lovely weekend, S'cubies.

Maryland is pretty. Also, as an added perk for visitors, they take pictures of your car and send them to your home address a few weeks later - yes, on the one hand, you have to pay $$$ for a traffic violation, but on the other hand, you do have a nice memento of your visit. Congrats on finishing your assignment. You are most tenacious and talented.
