Been wall to wall with meetings so a quick and to all As I was checking online for my reserved libary book, what did I find but: "The reformed vampire support group" / author Catherine JinksI presume that Spike qualifies or is it S3 that qualifies as the reformed support group or are we still not yet reformed? ? We should consult Spring, our expert in Spike-ology. leftylady

Wow, that is really going too far. I mean, it's one thing to expect you to respect their beliefs - like, say, you might attend the b-day party of a niece or nephew, where that sort of ancestor blessing ritual occurred, perhaps even participate in some small way. Everyone makes concessions to show respect and be part of a family. However, the key word there is "Everyone." They also have to show respect for your beliefs! This is your family and your daughter and you and Dave get to make the choices. They're the ones who have to take their turn at showing respect and adapting. Good work sticking to your guns. You have to lay the ground work now on this - though they sound like the type who might never stop trying. And we did. We went to Amilio's party, his mom did the "ask the ancestors for the blessing" part, and it was nice. Just not my idea of a fun birthday party...and the religion aspect is really a problem for me. It has to be Mom who holds the baby for the blessing, and asks the ancestors to bless her, etc. Dad won't do (and really doesn't want to anyway), for reasons that I'm sure they understand, having to do with tradition. My sister and I feel the same way. Her MIL wants the girls baptized Catholic, because she's actually afraid they might go to hell otherwise. I get that, and I feel for her. But Natalie doesn't believe, and is unwilling to stand up in front of a room full of people who do, and lie to them. She's not going to raise her girls Catholic, and she won't say she is just to get them baptized. Same goes for me and the rituals. I don't believe, and I'm not going to insult a bunch of people who do by pretending and lying to them. It was really hard for me to have my kids baptised: Mom was against it, especially, she and I were both worried about the empty forms thing and about violating conscience for the appearance of peace. But, yeah: married a PK, no way around it. Julia, religious stuff is a particularly tricky part of dealing with the in-laws, always.

Hot hot hot, and not in a good way. The a/c just turned itself on. 5:20 in the AM and it's hot enough in the hallway where the thermostat lives to trigger the a/c. This is never good.
ETA: On the other hand, I just checked my LJ friends-list for the second time this morning, and nwhepcat has updated her current fic. I'll go post the link in the appropriate and proper place.
Maybe it's a sign, a harbinger of improving something-or-others. Or not. Whatever.

so far today the cleaner was here, and it was the usual cleaner back again with no more broken ankle, so yaay and I have remembered to order my foods. If I'd remembered yesterday I would today have my foods, but this works too.
I have a new camera. I put batteries in it and made it work. It needs a memory card or it can only have 20 pictures. But it only cost £25, and I only wanted a cheap one cause I'm going to take it places and maybe drop it in mud and this way I don't have to worry.
On Saturday I'm going on a Quest. I must pack. and I must remember my sonic screwdriver.

I need a new MP3 player. The screen on my old one has died and it seems to be getting amnesia and forgetting what songs I put on it. Do MP3 players get Altzheimer's?

I'm around. Anna's off at a job fair.
Fell back to sleep and had weird dreams again, although at least this time it wasn't "Night before the linguistics final, haven't gone to class since the first day, have to pass" ones. I hate those.
Julia, two weeks and three days. Do not expect me to get more sane in the interim.

To all of you who watched John Stewart last night:
Yes, I am embarrassed to say I am from Tennessee.

To all of you who watched John Stewart last night: Yes, I am embarrassed to say I am from Tennessee. I watched part of it. Assif Mondvi annoys me; he needs to be more funny or at least have more variety in his schtick. But, YOW: the unexamined assumptions, there! Julia, "nobody's perfect"

Ah. I thought my days away from the sewing machine would be a few more, but alas it's not to be. We decided we're going to go to a SCA event on Saturday, and of course that means new garb is required, seeing as we haven't been to one in 3 years. So out come the sewing machine again. Sigh, but to put Rich's mind to ease, we're not dying the fabric first this time...
