Out to run errands before the big blizzard (of 1-3 inches).
Is Monnie on her way back from Hawaii? She may run into even more snow.
eta: Hey! top of a new page! Go me!

It's cold. Getting colder. There may be ice. Again.
That is all.

Here is very very windy.
The good news is that I went by the family-owned craft supply store to check out their moving-probably-liquidation sale (because the emails kept saying they hadn't found a new location yet), and found out that 1)They have a new location locked in and 2) It will be both closer and more convenient for me.
The not-quite-as-good news is that Paul just came home because he's got a cough (so do I) and he says he "feels feverish", so my afternoon of needlework and TV is in jeopardy. Although he may go to bed anyway. On the other hand, he brought home way too much Chinese food, and he offered to share.
Stay warm and safe, S'cubies.

I'll eat my nice TJ's chicken salad for dinner, since I had lunch given to me. He really is sniffing and coughing and a bit too warm. I expect he's coming down with a cold; Katherine has always run a fever before she gets a full-blown cold, ever since she was a baby. It must run in the Davis family.

I expect he's coming down with a cold; Katherine has always run a fever before she gets a full-blown cold, ever since she was a baby. It must run in the Davis family. So is she going by Katherine now instead of Kitty? She prefers Katherine, but those of us who are old and forgetful are still allowed to call her Kitty. I washed the kitchen floor, which required washing 2/3 of it, waiting for that part to dry, then moving the table and chairs so I could wash the last 1/3. Now I'm waiting for it to dry and hoping Katherine doesn't come home and walk across it and mess it up again. With any luck, she'll listen to me when I yell "Hey, stay out of the kitchen, the floor is drying". Emily, on the other hand, not so many years ago, on being warned that the floor was wet and should not be walked on, would've rushed straight in there and tracked muddy prints all over, then fallen, burst into tears and demanded comforting and apologies from me because it was obviously All My Fault for inconveniencing her. I'm sure there's a scientific name for that sort of knee-jerk assumption that I don't know what I'm talking about... Bad mom guilt issues, I haz them.

So cute!! That little cub just doesn't want to let go! Today I stood on the bridge of the library and watched the ducks paddle down the cold, cold, river. Poor duckies!

I have once again experienced a mysterious coat-hanger die off/migration/transmogrification to old rusty bent wire hangers.
Having just read Good Omens I suspect this is in the same set of phenomena as cassette tapes left in a car for six months becoming "Queen's Greatest Hits"
Julia, this will complicate the disposition of the two sweater dresses currently in the washer. Oops.

*Sigh* I just got guiltwhacked. Aged Mum wishes that "I were free-er to visit more than once a month" because she's having trouble with the grocery shopping. She's paying obscene amounts for full-time care, and the daytime caregiver's car doesn't work properly, so they never go out. Gah. I made several suggestions, ranging from calling Ralphs to see if they deliver, her paying for a rental car for a day, and her telling Ratbag and Useless to get off their fat arses and help out once a month like we do. I also asked about her best friend who lives nearby, could she visit with Emma while the caregiver goes shopping? Oh, best friend has offered to do the shopping for her. So why the are you guilt-tripping me about the marketing then, I did not ask. Okay. I said that whenever we have a visit planned, if she gives me a list the day before, we can go shopping before we hit the road. Also the caregiver can do the marketing while we're there, which she usually does. And, I said, she should take her best friend up on her offer. The sad fact is that, as usual, Aged Mum wants me there waiting on her hand and foot, and she expects to get what she wants without asking, and nothing else will do. Sorry, that's no longer an option. Anne, with extra growling

They let the school's out 2 hours early here so everyone was home by about 2:30 or so.
At which point it had been sunny and was just clouding over. I saw one snowflake at 3:15 and turned on Chuck and opened the paper. 2 commercial breaks and 3 newspaper sections (sad newspaper -- only about maybe 15 minutes total): the entire world had gone white! Roads, grass, bushes, totally coated and little tiny flakes falling as fast as I've ever seen around here.
We had about 2 inches total but it seemed like the first inch fell in less than an hour. Thank heavens there were no school buses on the roads or people driving TO the schools to pick up kids. As it was everyone left their offices at 3:30 and it's been gridlock every since.
People are pulling into the intersections so traffic can't flow at all and the brine and salt trucks can't even get to the interstates.
Jim stayed at his office but doesn't know when traffic will let up enough to bother venturing out. It's not the roads he is worried about it's the traffic.
Schools are out again tomorrow and my guess is Friday as well.

The old Anne would have been on the road and not found out until she got there that Mom actually DID have alternatives. But you listened and began asking questions. Go you! Now, about the caregiver with the wonky car. If she doesn't have wheels how is she getting to the Aged Mom? If she can't take the AM out, why isn't her agency finding a caregiver who can? These are more questions that can be asked with no more bother than calling the agency (which is a nuisance, but better than spending hours on the road needlessly). This person is very proud of Mommy Anne today.
