Funny tidbit: I was reading the latest issue of Bitch, and they apparently had a poll asking what TV "dad" was the one most readers would prefer. With more than 60% of the vote, the winner was: RUPERT GILES! Now THAT is cool! Especially when you consider he never had children.

Words cannot describe how much I wish I was not awake right now... That right there describes most of my week so far.

Also, when you think about it, a very sad commentary on the image of fathers in the media in general and on TV specifically.

Well, of course, the population sampling has been self-selected down to folks who reach that (online?) publication and are in the mood to answer surveys. So there is that. I think maybe the Friday Night Lights guy would have been a good choice in real life, but Giles was "cool" in that he fought stuff and knew stuff and had a shady background but also: he LOVED Buffy and Willow and Xander. So that might have been the primary factor. As for actually parenting as evidenced in later seasons -- really not that great.

Well, he might not have been any of the Scoobies actual dad, but he certainly filled a father-like role for almost all of them.

I choose Rupert, also!

He definitely was a dad to Buffy, IMO, and to a lesser extent, all of the Scoobies - he easily fits my definition of a "TV Dad."

I'm gonna guess it was multiple choice, and Rupert won over who-knows-who. I'm sure it was just for fun - and Giles . . . a fun choice! I liked how the Jossverse portrayed good and bad in parents - Joyce and Giles, primarily (Hank too, sorta, and the other Scoobies parents, as well as Angel and Spike's human and vamp parents). It was all writ large due to melodrama and fantastic situation, of course, but still. Very well done. Rupert and Joyce were good parents - not perfect parents by any means, but good parents. I love Band Candy. I need to watch that again sometime. It's been a long while.

Have started walking to work again - since last week. It's 1.5 miles one way.
Wore a pair of sandals I hadn't worn in awhile though . . . and now MY FEET HURT! Blisters on balls. Not good.
