Tried and rejected: they give me foot cramps just putting them on. I have a whole lot wrong with my feet, and have had since infancy, so shoes I can wear are about .01% of the shoes made on the planet. Julia, which is why I am wearing, at this moment, a pair of ten year old Ariats which are pretty much half mud, even when newly cleaned Well, as a weak-ankled, pronating, flat-footed freak, I favor Danskos. I still pronate, but they offer a lot of support for the other two... Couldn't be a freak. Not with two of us on this board. It would be statistically impossible. Unless this was a a weak-ankled, pronating, flat-footed freak message board, which, the last time I checked, it was not. Have tried any number of those "super sneakers". Generally speaking too frightened to do more than stand up in them. The whole rocking back and forth seeking balance is something neither my back nor my knees appreciate. There is no brand for me. I just tries 'em on till one of 'em fits.

You might try the MBT shoes. They are supposed to strengthen the muscles that support your hips, etc. while you walk on hard surfaces. They are a bit tricky to wear on uneven surfaces, tho, so you do need to wear them a lot on even surfaces (concrete) to get used to them. I need to get back to wearing mine, but they are funky looking and don't blend well in the corporate environment. I get enough looks from sitting on a balance ball! They are currently sitting in my closet because they are something that have to be worn on a regular basis, which I don't do, so were doing more harm then good. But they did help when I first got them. I think Jan tried them, too, and liked them. When not at work, I pretty much live in my thick-soled 'Fit Flops'. They don't have the rocking ball in them, or the negative heel that my Earth shoes have that bother my back. They are starting to look a bit ratty, tho.

So cool! And such a good sound.

Also, I failed to mention that shoes that can't be worn on uneven ground pretty much can't even make it from the car to the house; no matter how hard I try, the burrowing mammals trash any level ground in a season.

Weather is so freaky.
Yesterday Chicago was hotter (98) than Nashville (and I heard Minneapolis was 103!). Today Chicago is 54 (over a 40 degrees drop!) and Arlington, VA is 101.
Carolyn is at 54 and Allie is at 101. Allison is NEVER moving back to Chicago.

It's only 95 here, and severely rain-challenged.

I use cornstarch myself. Not sure how it would work on feet though. Please try it out and report back to us.

I am a weak-ankled, pronating, high-arched freak. So, I'm wondering if my feet wouldn't like them very much? I swear I win the award for freaky feet: I have the wide feet and stubby toes of a peasant coupled with the high arch and delicate bone structure of a prima ballerina. I suspect there was some funny shenanigans in my family tree.

Have started walking to work again - since last week. It's 1.5 miles one way. Wore a pair of sandals I hadn't worn in awhile though . . . and now MY FEET HURT! Blisters on balls. Not good.[/quote] Worse if you were a guy, though, I imagine... You got there ahead of me. No fair, I was building things. Julia, and now I'm eating cheese and crackers so I can go build a bit more. I knew you guys wouldn't let that just lie there.

The older I get, the more I get schooled on the old soldier's wisdom of clean socks and taking care of your feet, and the old hiker's wisdom of wearing two layers of socks to cut down on blisters: a thin smooth pair and then thicker absorant ones over. Put your day shoes in your pack and wear nice supportive boots or hikers with sockies under while you're walking. On the other hand, that powder sounds good! Julia, now if there was only some magical cure to keep walking on concrete from making my hips hurt. You might try the MBT shoes. . . . <snip> See, Michelle? It was an easy mistake to make.

Very fun.

I suspect there was some funny shenanigans in my family tree. There's an awesome catalog called Foot Smart that has all sorts of things for the feet-challenged among us. I want to get these inserts that realign your pronating tendencies, as I am tired of ruining my shoes by turning my heels into mountain peaks. Shenanigans, hee! So some delicate ballerina had a peasant on the side, eh?

Early June in my little University town: Yep, the students are heading home, and we go into "ghost town summer." I love this place.
