Went to all day foster parenting training about parenting in the electronic age. The training was all about the effect of TV, video games, music videos, social media - particular on the vulnerable population of foster children . . . quite interesting, considering I was way behind the times on most of this stuff. Vince just was never much interested in any of that, and I sure wasn't interested on my own. So I didn't spend much time worrying myself about the influences of uber-violent video games, mysoginistic music videos, etc. Vince played chess, he read philosophy and physics books, he listened to some very odd alternative music and recordings of jaw harps. He watched almost no popular movies, zero TV, and the only video game I ever remember him playing was Centipede. So I learned quite a bit about what is out there these days. And I must say: YOWZA. Erm...you know that this board is considered social media....right?? Yep, I was aware . . . and I did share the "rutabaga" strategy for staying safe.

Hey, how is Diane and her new man friend doing? Haven't heard any news on that front lately. I am nosy and I need answers! Actually, I was thinking about this the other day. She hasn't posted on her facebook since May 14, and hasn't logged in here since May 11. Did she say anything about being away or anything? It just doesn't seem like her. But then, maybe it's just about spending more time with Bob . . .

Oooooh! The old-timey 50's black and white Cat People or the equally cheese-tasktic 80's Cat People complete with awesome Bowie song? **sings "I've been putting out fire . . . with gasoliiiiiiiiine!"** Wondering the same thing! I was watching the old one, in black and white, and right now, I am watching the sequel, "Curse of the Cat People."

Very lovely / fun (if rainy and a bit cold) day. Did the final giving away of mom and dad art and photography out at the Arboretum - along with showing folks where the dedicated trees are and handing out directions to the Columbarium at Fort Snelling. So cool to chat with cousins and other folks. I love it when people pick out pieces of art that they really like. Oh, and several of the guys also took one of dad's hats, which was awesome! So dapper and delighted they were! Awwwwww...I love hearing about this. Are you feeling at all verklempt about giving away their things? What kind of hats did he collect? Actually feeling very upbeat and happy to see people looking at the art and the photos, picking things that they really connected with or liked and then getting to have them. We all told stories and shared memories and laughs. There were all kinds of hats. One cousin-in-law picked a nice soft cotton hat with Norwegian symbols on it, (in memory of the times she and my cousin have gone to Norway); she's planning to wear it while fishing. Another cousin put on one of the nice suede cowboy-ish one and it fit him so well and felt so comfy he was just beaming. And my cousin Al (dad was named Al too) put on dad's really snappy black leather cap and just looked sharp as all get out. We had him posing in Samuel L Jackson styles and it was awesome! ;D

Sent some of it to his friends who had moved away and requested some artwork . . . so now I know it is all over the country, and I like that. It is good to share, and good to know that there are reminders of him all around the place. I like it for the chances of proliferation and endurance in both time and space.

Photobucket = wonky!
Will not let me log in. I have more than one account, and both gave the the "cannot display page" type of response, in both IE and Firefox - hopefully it is temporary.
I read a story of some guy losing all of his pics (and he was a professional photographer with LOADS of stuff) on photobucket because of error of theirs. Of course, he was foolish to have so much valuable and irreplaceable stuff out there without back up, but WOW.
They offered him some kind of wussy offer, like 5 year free deluxe subscription or something.
Anyhow - I guess I will check back later. I assume they are having some kind of server issue.

In the rooms the women move to and fro talking of Michaelangelo.
(poetic morning, I guess)
Julia, not particularly tightly wrapped today

Julia, and must go now and be all chickenified some more.

I checked her last ten posts, and yep, she complains of bronchitis, says that Bob has been staying on the couch and providing chicken soup, and that she has a doc appt coming up. She sounds pretty miserable, but nothing out of the ordinary, in the way she describes her bronchitis. Hmmm. Don' t know what to think. I will post a "hope you're better, how ya doing" note on her facebook and see if that brings any results.

My mother just called. Because, she said, she forgot to ask Paul how I was doing, when he was there dropping off groceries. I let the answering machine pick up, but of course she sounded so worried and upset when I didn't answer that I had to talk to her. And of course she said she wouldn't keep me, but she kept on talking and expecting a response. I croaked and coughed at her; I couldn't help it. She said we'd talk tomorrow. She's going to talk, but at the rate I'm going, I won't be. My throat is raw, my voice is almost gone, and sometimes completely gone, I ache all over from coughing, and she expects me to be all cheerful and ready to amuse her. I don't think so. Maybe I can get one of the daughters to talk to her tomorrow. Ha. Ha.

She'll check in when possible.
