S'cubies Kitty Katherine was up around 3:30AM in search of pain meds, much to the bemusement of the cats. She's got chipmunk cheeks, poor baby, but her appetite is coming back quite nicely - this morning, I walked to the market and came home via Corner Bakery for an Anaheim scrambler to share with her and Paul. She ate a good third of the scrambler and a lot of the avocados, and that after cottage cheese and mashed potatoes for breakfast. She's having mac and cheese for lunch, with the macaroni cooked squashy, and enjoying it. Also Staples has my binders on sale, buy two get one free, so I went over there and stocked up, and also bought into the all-summer discount coupon on office supplies special - you pay ten bucks for the card and get 15% off pretty much everything. I wasn't going to bother until the checker did the math for me; my purchases today almost paid for the cost of the discount card, and there are other things I need to buy later. So I'm happily moving the rest of the crafts stuff into new binders this afternoon, and I'll stash the rest (I bought nine in assorted sizes) in the cave for future needs. Still waiting for that next shoe to fall, though... ETA: Emily and I got the printer driver reinstalled by (wait for it) restarting the computer with the printer turned on, which forced the computer to recognize it as new hardware and download the most current driver. This happened by accident several computer repair sessions back, and I found last time, that this version speaks Firefox, unlike the one on the CD that came with the printer. We really could use a new printer/scanner, but since this one still works, and I'm cheap frugal, that will have to wait a bit longer.

Had a very fun weeked! Friday night was the opening night at the Minnesota Orchestra Sommerfest. Lots of lovely Viennese waltzes. But the highlight of night for me was Geirr Tveitt's "Hardanger Fiddle Concerto #2: Three Fjords" with the delightful Ragnhild Hemsing on the fiddle. I just LOVE the sound of a Hardanger fiddle. Oh, and they also had the winner of the e-Piano Junior Competition (who had just been declared the winner hours before) come up and play the first movement of the Chopin concerto that he'd won the competition with. And of course as usual there was music and food and fun out on the plaza after the concert, so we sat out in the lovely summer evening, eating bratwurst and watching all the folks polka-ing as The Jolly Huntsmen played. Then last night, I went to Gastro Non Grata at First Avenue. A festival of food and music. I particularly loved the short rib chili (mmmmm tasty!) and the pea puree with smoked sturgeon on a cracker/flatbread thing - nummy! My two fave bands were Sorry OK (and not just 'cuz I know the violinist in it) and El Le Faunt (OMG, they are wild and fun!). And Duff Goldman's band Sand Ox played too - so I got to see Duff wandering around, including standing right next to me rockin' out to Sorry Ok as they played. Duff and company are actually all good musicians, but I think they need to put a bit more variety in their songs - they all seemed a bit samey. But they had a guy playing a Theremin! And that can never not be awesome.

Hope Kitty is feeling all better soon. Also, here's hoping that Julia is feeling better soon and that Liz's car trunk is fixed easily!

Up early, breakfast, kicking the soccer ball, blowing up the inflatable pool, going to Walmart to buy swim trunks and flip-flops, lunch, filling up the pool, playing and playing and playing in the pool, cleaning up and drying up, going to park, playing in the park, going to Burger King, playing in the kids play room, going to Kroger's to get cake mix, baking a cake . . And soon, bathtime and bedtime. YOWZA! They are cutie pies. Adorable (and lively) lil' guys!! Have fun with them, Spring!

Wowee. Tonight was the younger one's turn to throw a fit. He absolutely refused to take the nebulizer treatment that he must take every night, after his bath and before bed. He cried his little eyes out about it. When he was too exhausted to fight me (much), I gave him the treatment. He cried and cried again after the treatment.
I asked him why he was crying, and he said he didn't know.
I suspect, that much like his brother the other night, the newness and excitement is wearing off and he is sad and maybe a little scared.
He finally exhausted himself completely, asked for something to drink, then didn't fight me about going to bed.
The good part was how his older brother used this occasion to show how much older and more mature he was; he stayed calm and help me get the treatment ready and such. He seemed to have forgotten his own crying fit, clucking at his silly younger brother.
Ah, they are such cutie pies.

7:30 am and it's 85 degrees on it's way to 97 with a heat index of 112.
Well, the AC can only run 24 hours in one day after all.
We are up to about 20. I run it most of the night to make it comfortable for sleeping and get it as low as possible. It shut off at around 5 am but is already only 1 degree from turning back on. Can't let it get too hot before coming on because when it gets into the mid 90's it can't keep up and the temp climbs in the house even with the air running continously.
If it's going to run 18-20 hours anyway you may as well turn it on at a more comfortable temp and try to hold it there rather than waiting an extra hour or two and then have it running just to keep the house at a higher, less comfortable temp, right?

Went to dealer this morning. Latch thingy on the trunk needs to be replaced. They also noticed that the belts and the timing tension thingy are about to go , so I have to get those replaced too. So it turned out to be fortunate that I had to take the car into the dealer. Luckily, they have all the parts in stock, I should be able to on the road tomorrow.

Yes. Mainly because the stuff on the list that could no longer be put off involved calls to: doctors, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Allie is seeing an orthopaedist and physical therapists for her feet), and then the home/auto insurance company, and 3 appointments for the car I brought back from Chicago from the kids: oil and checkup, window tinting and upholstery cleaning. So, yes, 2 hours of solid phone time. But I DID have Jim drop me a mile from home on his way to work and put in my 30 minutes of walking time before the temp got over 86 degrees!

Monday, Monday Monday at the amphetamine speedway... EVERYTHING needs done today and it's all too likely that nothing will be completed. At least it's summer so we don't have to take schoolbuses into account.
Julia, exhausted beyond the usual limits of the term.

Katherine took a prescription pain med last night, and slept through. I had to wake her around 7AM for her amoxycillin. She's still swollen, but it's started to go down, although the bruises are becoming quite colorful. She's eating all the soft foods she can get - cottage cheese, tofu, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese, and keeping hydrated. I slept, but had weird dreams about having to rescue Giles from something or other. I blame Kitty's Buffyathon. I have: Walked to the shopping center while it was still grey and relatively cool. Driven to TJs and Staples (more binders on sale and other office supplies). Walked back up to the shopping center for something I forgot and to visit Cost Plus with my $10 reward credit, as the sun was coming out. It's in the mid-70s but very sticky. Still, it could be worse. It has been worse. Oh, and reinstalled Malwarebytes, ran a quick scan and showed Emily how to do it. I shall now eat lunch and have a lie-down. S'cubies
