A big HI!!!!! and hug to everyone. Been absolutely wiped out at work. Getting a new person to take over some of the responsibilities that were dumped on me couple of years ago still hasn't cut down on the extra hours but at least I don;t go home quite as tired. Hope to be able to get back to catching up on all the s'cubie news and even posting soon. To add the the local news: "The Avengers" starts filming in downtown Cleveland tomorrow. There was even news today about a Whedon sighting yesterday while he checked out the closed-off/repurposed street that will be the scene of some of the shooting. Will try to advise of other Whedon-related news tips. (Sorry, Spring, no known meet and greet scheduled. We only wish.......) leftylady, who saw "Cowboys & Aliens" yesterday which only made me miss Firefly/Serenity all the more. Coolio!!

Today was Visit Aged Mum Day. I was up at 5:30 to feed cats, couldn't get back to nightmare-free sleep so got up again and got dressed. Did marketing early so we could depart for AM's early to avoid the afternoon heat. Aged Mum was feeling a bit under the weather. So was her caregiver. So were Husband and self. We did what we could and ran away shortly after lunch. Tired tired tired.

I'm in Lander. Got here last Saturday. The apartment I'm staying in doesn't have internet, and the only free internet I've found is the public library, so I'll be on the board intermittently for a while. This rotation is pediatrics. It's going well; overwhelming at first, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Wonderful! Let us know how you're doing when you get a chance.

The girls are sleeping - at last. I finally got the lawn mowed -whew. It was in DESPERATE need. The girls and I did chores most of the day, with a few left for tomorrow. Today's drama: The 14 yr old got stung by a bee while we were walking home from the nearby donut shop. She had only the most mild of skin reactions to it - very much like a mosquito bite - but was very upset and seemed near tears about it. This time, I did not have to fake the "don't worry, it is going to be OK" responses. That's because you've gotten plenty of practice dealing with bee fear from me, right? SEE, I AM A VERY HELPFUL PERSON. I did think of you.

Tonight's drama:
The older sister cried twice, because the younger sister was "mean to her."
It was a combo of over-sensitivy on the older one's part, and actual meaness on the younger one's part. They have an interesting dynamic - they can be pretty nasty (calling names, saying hurtful things) to each other when they argue, but the older one will cry, while the younger one will laugh and act like she doesn't care.
I sent the younger one upstairs to cool off and comforted the older one, while we discussed how to avoid these confilicts in the future. Later, I talked to the younger one.
They were playing together just fine later, and all seemed to be forgotten.

Does anyone else here use Spotify? It's a music service. Never heard of this one . . . but, hi! Hi!! Another thing I've joined lately: Pinterest. It's pretty fun: you 'pin' pages that you like into categories of your choosing (like, "Recipes," "Books" "Thing I Want to Buy" etc.) and you can follow other people and check out what they have pinned and vice versa. You get lots of cool ideas from browsing through people's pin boards.

Today's "Monday, isn't that bad enough" moment: there's an ad with really loud autoplay on the GFY page, and I can't figure out which one it is nor how to turn it off. So:warning warning.
Julia, also, the baby jays are yelling at the littens again, oh, woe

So, to fritter away your August Monday Ennui: Sad Etsy DogsI had to stop looking at them, I had to breathe for a little. Julia, the captioning is particularly masterful, and not a little poetic.

I can't decide which is worse. I am usually afraid of dogs. I am not afraid of these dogs. I am up to "Oddly Dignified Dog Is More Mature Than You" ... yes, that outfit and dignity are matching...

Post by Anne, Old S'cubie Cat on Aug 8, 2011 21:15:17 GMT -5
Today commenced with the ritual scrubbing of the den carpet to clean up another cat hork. At least I caught the Husband before he scrubbed with a paper towel, took it and the Simple Green away from him and used a rag instead. I'm still cleaning up paper towel crumbs from the last time he cleaned up a hairball. I wasn't going to go walkies, because too tired, but I decided to do a park-and-walk from TJs to Albertsons and back and from TJs across the (very big busy ) street to Michaels and back. Then after I'd got home and cooled off, I walked up to Ralphs. So I'm tired and achy this evening, but still feeling vaguely virtuous. I know, my probably less than two miles altogether is nothing compared to the rest of you, but for me, it's pretty good. The good thing that happened today: According to the USPS mail tracker thingy, there were two packages out for delivery to me. The mail came around 5:30, no packages, so I started making notes just in case. A little while later, the mailman's van pulled up and he came to the door with both packages, in good condition this time, and this week's New Scientist. I also got an email from USPS wanting me to complete a survey about my recent experience emailing them for assistance. Since the assistance I got consisted of, well, nothing at all, I was not kind. Time for Warehouse 13, of which half the fun is watching Kitty watch it. Later, S'cubies. ETA: WH13 was pretty good tonight. Gareth David-LLoyd!?!?!
