So...I just scored an improved (read: MUCH larger) lab space, to be mine in October. So very, very cool. Who says you can't work up to the last possible second? Plus, I find if you ask for things when you look like I do right now, you're much more likely to get them. I aplaud your skill at playing the faculty game; we all win when the better woman wins Here's the big secret most women fail to learn in academia (and in life, probably): you get nothing you don't ask for. We're all well-trained to be nice, and quiet, and polite...and not ask for anything we don't need. Which means the men get all KINDS of perks because they were socialized to ask for them when they want them. It's hard work to overcome this training, it really is. I always feel bad asking for something, even if no one else seems to want it.

The next few days are going to be majorly hectic. The Bobman has sold his house. The closing was yesterday but out of the blue the buyers say he needs to be out of it by TOMORROW!! That means--because his new digs won't be ready until the end of October at the earliest--he's homeless. So guess where he's staying? Wow, you got it on the first try! I'm impressed. Now guess who has to get her flat ready for a roomie-guest? While jockeying two dockets this week AND preparing to fly out to Atlanta for Dragoncon? Whoja think? Awww, you peeked. New (king size!!!) bed ordered? Check. New (king size!!!) bed paid for? Check New bed delivery confirmed? Check. Sheets, blankets, pillows for (king size!!!) bed purchased? Cleaning of house and creation of storage for roomie completed? We-ell...Semi-check. Ordering of new wardrobe and bedstand completed? Not even a prayer of a check. Oh, and prep for trip? What prep? There was prep? When? And, you ask, why buy new (king size!!!) memory foam bed when I just bought a new bed scarcely two years ago? I mean, apart from the fact that I've hated my [queen] mattress since the day I bought it? Why not just buy a nice queen-size memory foam mattress and let it go at that. It's like this...I lived with Ian for 18 years. He stood 5'6" tall and never in his life weighed more than 135 pounds. A queen was plenty. The Bobman is 6'2.5" and weighs in at an easy 230. Hence, the king. Any questions? No? Would you mind answering one of mine? WHAT THE HELL HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? ? That is all. You got a Marshall's/TJ Maxx/Ross in your neighborhood? That's the best place for sheets and pillowcases, also comforter sets. Tuesday Morning has better quality than Macy's but at about the same price. IKEA is the best place for pillows, comforters, and comforter covers. Julia, have I mentioned my bedding thing before?

It's also one reason I get a lot of disapprobation: I was raised to be a boy, more or less, and then punished for acting like one, and left with no ingrained skill-set to fall back on. Terribly confusing. Julia, and the day, it has started with a bang now, interrupted, must get moving, seeya later.

In my (limited) experience, when I ask, I am either punished for being uppity or ignored altogether. Can't win. Finished the monthly System Mechanic run in under an hour including a full defrag, yay. That's it for computer maintenance for the week, unless something new comes up (please, no).

Depending on their policies, the sheets are going back. Yes, I like the comforters at Ikea. We also have a Ross, Target, BedBath&Beyond. Bedding will be found. Right now a short rest before attacking living room.

The best sheets I have are organic Egyptian Cotton 450 thread count white ones I got for $19.99 for the set on clearance at Ross. It's more usual to pay thirty or forty dollars for Queen size sets (ALWAYS 100% cotton, my skin has issues with polyester, and rayon pills like whoa) but they almost never go on clearance, while King sets do. I am 100% the Princess and the Pea when it comes to bedding, it's my one wuss out. Julia, well, that and shoes, but foot pain is no fun.
