Hi! Still pregnant. Barely. 39 weeks. Due, according to doctors, on Thursday...according to my own measurements, next Saturday. But, you know, just waiting. House...purchased, moved in to, fumigated, BURGLARIZED during fumigation...but all is well, now. Class...taught. They'll pay me the big pile of money you get for teaching in the summer in September, which will be nice. I also developed three courses for a grant proposal and got my retention dossier together in the past few weeks. Now I'm...just maintaining my lab and students and waiting for baby Zachary to finally decide to come out. While hoping he's still head-down - he moved in a really dramatic and painful-to-the-ribcage way last night after Doctor Who. But it doesn't feel like his head's in the ribcage this morning, so I think it's fine. He just tried to use his butt to get more space, I think. How's everyS'cubie else? What gigantic life-changes have I missed? Hey, Little Sister, it's good to see you. Aged Mum is still living in the old house with full-time caregivers. Next week begins rewiring of the whole house, one room at a time, while she stays there. Elder Daughter is working on completing her second major, Linguistics, and TAing for one of the Linguistics professors. She hopes to graduate in the spring if she can get the rest of her requirements sorted, and then she starts her MA. Younger Daughter just started her second year at community college, still as a math major, still not knowing what she really wants to do, but there's time. Husband is still working at Deft, making coatings. There are several cars racing at NASCAR with Deft paints. ;D I am trying not to melt down entirely, mostly by trying not to think about any of the Big Pile O' Worries hanging over my head, and by refusing to volunteer for anything no matter how many hints Aged Mum and BiL drop - they have to ask (in fact, they'd better beg), and even then I think about it for a while... So, how's the rest of your family? How is Ms Emily handling the impending arrival of a sibling?

She's a friend from work who is just starting at CWU (she's got about three years and a quarter left to finish her BA). There are advantages to having organizational super powers, and you have them! Julia, opposite of me, boy howdy. Maybe, but I nearly had three nervous breakdowns in the process, nonetheless. I was *this* close to figuring out what my actual limits were. I think I got close enough to know, and never, ever go back. I got educated in what my limits are, this summer. They were exceeded when we added two young kittens to ten chickens in four pens, two geriatric dogs, and a slightly broken husband. Julia, oh, yeah, that was when I stopped having time doing anything but cope.

Super busy day of house chores and yard work and bill paying and working on the local NAMI website I administer and getting receipts together for Children Services and more. Whew. We wash and vacuum the car every week at the do-it-yourself place down the street, so we did that too. I was never religious about this, but I am now, because it is part of their chores to earn an allowance. We also cleaned the guinea pig cage, another weekly event. The guinea pig is getting a little less shy and scared and skittish, and a little more social. We take him out every night to play and run around get petted and get a treat. It is slowly working to make him a little more like the piggy Vince and I had - who wasn't at all shy, and squealed for treats and attention all the time. I have all kinds of stuff to try to remember for school needs, and the 14 yr old needs a dentist appt, they both have counseling appts coming up, and Nanucci, I think, has gone deaf! I should call the vet on it, but I'm pretty positive. Did someone say something about limits?

Tired. Have nasty headache of evil due to excessively hot weather, am waiting for next Aged Mum crisis, but - I just spent ten minutes playing with the cats, first Shadow, then Patches. Emily and I threw a toy back and forth; Shadow is still an amazing leaper-catcher, and for such a big cat, Patches attained amazing vertical speed and elevation. We're all exhausted, but not bad for a couple of senior (10+) cats. Is anybody else still watching Leverage? This season has been amazing. Alas, alas, no more until November.

Watching, yes, mostly at odd hours on Monday since Anna's the decider : when I'm home with Franklin, I mostly watch his programs. Right now it's something on the History channel about horseradish.

So, how's the rest of your family? How is Ms Emily handling the impending arrival of a sibling? Mostly fine, though I think life is stressing her out a bit lately. She's a real toddler now, complete with the "power of no" and a mind of her own, which is both cool and frustrating. And she's REALLY advanced verbally (no kidding; she's 1-2 years ahead of schedule there), which causes one to forget she's not even two yet. She speaks in complete sentences, but her understanding of really complex topics is, generally, still not quite there. So she gets that a new baby is coming, but, overall, is bummed that Mommy can't or won't run and jump with her the way I used to...is probably weirded out by the fact that we gave her a new dresser and put hers into another room with someone else's clothes in it...etc. And she's been through a move AND a change in daycare recently, too. Oh, and Mom and Dad being more stressed out for a few months than she's EVER experienced before. So, mostly, she's a sweet and adorable little girl...intermittantly with being someone who hits when you tell her no, or kicks you while you're trying to get her dressed. Which would be normal for an almost-two-year-old anyway. I'm combining punishment (time outs and, for the aggression, now we're doing time outs for a toy instead of for her - no playing with Riley until he finishes your time out) with talking to her about it when I've got her sitting still - in the car and stuff. Talking about the new life stuff, not the occasional bad behavior. And you know a fetus has overstayed his welcome when you can't pull up a pair of maternity jeans you wore your entire last pregnancy. I gained LESS weight, by 13 pounds, this time (the Toddler Diet), but my shape must just be dramatically different this week than it was a couple weeks ago.

Hey Rachael! Doing *baby deliver soon* vibing!! Sounds like you are ready - and he was a good patient baby to wait until you were and to give you a few days to be alone with Emily without work or stressing about moving. What a good little boy!

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know both me and my family made it through Irene just fine. Lots of flooding in the area—I'm actually home from work today because of road closures—but nothing that impacted either my apartment or my parents' place. We all feel very fortunate, especially when we see footage or pictures of the parts of Bennington and Manchester where the rivers went crazy. Heck, there used to be a little sand bar with trees and other plants in the middle of the river I cross twice on my way to work--no more.

I have yet to watch last night's, but I didn't realize that it for a few months - but only until November - that's cool.

For a wimpy hurricane, it really left a mess. Glad you guys made it thru ok! Hurricane and earthquake on the East coast in one week. Amazing. Our company's computer server is down as they are without power in Connecticut. This is going to be interesting, since ALL business takes place over this network that is down.

I'm in Cheyenne, staying with my relatives. And they have wi-fi, wee! Hoping I can also get all my residency papers squared away while I'm in town, so I can officially become a Wyoming resident. Howdy, Liz! Yay for the wi-fi!! Now all you need are the cowboy boots!

Oh yeah, still loving Leverage here. I haven't seen last night's episode yet, as TNT was literally the only channel not working for me Sunday evening. Yes, really. But it's being rerun Thursday at midnight, so I've already got it set to record.

Oh...and I have not had any major life changes lately. And I like it that way - I've had more than my share in the past 15 years. Saw Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks the other night (Tedeschi Trucks Band.)- and it was rockin' good. They recently married each other, and she is becoming quite the guitarist from his influence, and already sings like Janis Joplin, so it was amazing. Plus, the Chicago Theater is a great venue - small enough and laid back enough, but with all the great old ambiance. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans kicked off the night - and they are an amazing ensemble of great jazz players who tour the country basically promoting jazz.
