Well, that was a nice surprise. The phone rang; I grabbed it expecting that the Husband was in trouble, or Aged Mum was in trouble, or, at best, somebody wanted to sell me something. It was Annie from Silvercrow. I sent them an online order this morning. Annie called because the tote bag I ordered is sold out, and she wanted to know if I would mind if they substituted another one. It's got a similar image, but she says it's better-made, not made any more (so not on the website, they just had a few left over), and she hopes I'll like it better. Talk about customer service. They are the nicest, sweetest people. We exchanged compliments, and I told her to give Pete a hug and have him give her one from me. She says Pete says I'm their favorite customer. I guess it's because I send them photos of what I've done with the things I buy, and also I don't throw a hissy if my order gets messed up, and I contact them if they send me two of something, or the wrong order, so I can return it. Huh. Small family company, mistakes happen. I always say that it's not whether you make the mistake, it's how you fix it. Anyway, that's a Nice Thing, so I wanted to share. It is a nice thing! Hey, would you post their website? I wouldn't mind taking a look at their stuff myself. And I'll tell them you recommended it if I get anything.

The bad: The gym near us was supposed to open today. It didn't. We toured. Major disappointment. No juice bar. Machines crowded on each other. Too little floorspace, too much machineray, not enough variety.
Staying at old gym. Much happier there.
The good; I have a clean bathroom and chilled Almond Joy bars in the fridge.
The gooder: The queen's new bracelets arrived and they're gorgeous.
The goodest: I have new shoes.

I had a similar experience with 1-800-contacts this week. Either the bad economy is causing smarter people to go into customer service positions (which would explain Anna and her coworkers) or some businesses are getting the point. Julia, now if Fedex and DHL and UPS would just get with the program, so I wouldn't be forced to deal with customer service so often I do a lot of business with online family-run or one-woman small businesses that sell eclectic stuff, and they're pretty much all nice people, but Silvercrow is one of the nicest. Also Pete and Annie are involved in animal rescue, greyhounds and dalmatians and cats in particular. They're just good people.

Argh. I just tried to order a refill of one of my bp meds using the HMO's online reordering thingy. It told me that I was refilling the prescription TOO EARLY. I'm sorry, what? It can take up to ten business days to get the refill in the mail, I'm down to my last six (plus a few in my purse emergency pillbox) and it's TOO EARLY? I decided, since last time I tried to talk to the subhumans at the pharmacy my efforts were, to say the least, unsuccessful, to email my doctor. She can sort them out. If I get to the last few pills, I'll just have to cut them in half (which is what I was doing originally, but my bp didn't go down enough) and hope for the best. To cheer everybody up, bull terrier puppy cuteness and hellhounds putting up with it on Robin McKinley's blog. The light hellhound is Chaos, the dark one is Darkness, and the puppy is Pavlova.

I actually remembered that it is PR All Stars tonight!
Best job vibes sent your way, Erin!
Hope all the Sandy-affected S'cubies are safe and sound!
How very touching that Patti's niece came by and joined and all - thanks for posting a heads-up about that, Sue!

A 70's inspired, disco-inspired, 9 West shoe inspired, update these themes to the now, challenge. Fun!
I think we should go for 70's silhouettes, like tight, flare-bottom high-waist pants with a teeny top, or maybe a very flowy blouse .... but done in candy-bright colors, shiny - maybe even vinyl or neoprene - lime green or bright orange perhaps, because that would make it more "now"?
Or we could do an Annie Hall kind of look, but all in black leather!
Oh, wait - it's supposed to be a party dress, isn't it?
Hmmmm. OK, then the 70's disco silhouette would be a plunge or scoop neck, flirty flarey swirly skirt, maybe even a wrap dress kind of thing. And we could use a modern techno fabric, like one of those computer-created prints, or with light incorporated into it.

My very speedy runway thoughts ...
Emilio - Very pretty, love the color and flow.
Wendy - I actually like elements of this, the prints, the flow of the blouse, but overall it is too low-brow
Anthony Ryan - A good idea, awkwardly executed. Not sold on the color scheme.
Casanova - Love love love the color, the shape gives a nice 70's vibe, with the ribbon/corded back making it more modern.
Suede - I like the color, but the entire thing is over-designed for a party dress. Very Roman Spectacle. Interesting elements, but too many of them.
Andre - Very pretty colors, but the outfit is a bit plain/simple I think. I like the low back, but the over-jacket thing is ... unnecessary.
Ivy - Awkward fitting/shape, hate the gold-studded or whatever edging on the top of the bodice, the sheer skirt over shorts thing is just ... not good. And the particular color of green just totally doesn't fit what she did with it.
Uli - Very fun! Very pretty! I love the flow and flirt of the dress, love the fabric! Very very nice!
Joshua - I love the color, but I don't like the front of the top - the lapels and all. The squared cut out in the back is nice, but I don't like the trip or chain or whatever running just below the cut out is not working for me.
Laura - I like the jumper/jumpsuit thing - the print is nice, it has a good flow. Don't care for the jacket much.
Althea - The colors are lovely, but that bodice is either overworked or clumsily done or both. I can sort of see where she was going with this, but she did not get there.
Kayne - Too 70s', not updated enough, I'm thinking. The pants have some fit issues.
