This morning, I took the ancestral Masonic sword, with its certificate and a Masonic pocketwatch that turned up a few months ago, to UPS. They're going to pack the whole thing up for me and ship it to my brother in Toronto. It's only taken, what, two years for me to get my act together? Why, you might ask, could he not take it home the last time he visited Aged Mum? My brother refuses to fly. He takes trains and buses instead. So guess who's been privileged to ship boxes of books, records (yes, vinyl records) and other family memorabilia to Canada? At least he's good about reimbursing me, although I could do without the special trips to the bank to get the foreign bank checks deposited, and the conversion fees... So, I think that's the weirdest thing I've ever had to ship anywhere.

It's sparkly. It's gorgeous. It's HUGE! Well, with a 4 inch diameter it's huge compared to the original which was only 3 1/2 inches. But it's shiny! On a not-so-nice note, after telling management that I am retiring because they have more or less destroyed my health I was promised that after March I would not receive any more dockets. This promise proved to be worth exactly the same as every other promise I have received in this office. "Oh, don't worry. It doesn't have any attorneys (meaning I have to copy each file for the not-having-a-clue-claimants) or medical experts. And one of them isn't even worked up to be ready to schedule either. Protests have fallen on deaf ears. It’s SO nice to know that having only 35 days left in this pit, they feel so kindly toward me as to continue to screw me over. Gotta love ‘em. Not sure why.

Not sure why. Because each and every day, they remind you why you're leaving?

Well, unless I count when I worked as a buyer of scientific supplies - this sometimes involved me in shipping things back as well as shipping them in . . . and it could get pretty strange - like the small mammal penises . . . ah, well - the bad old days.

Go Vandy!
(March Madness. Vandy has been upset in the first round 3 of the past 4 years by a lower seeded team.)
Right now playing Harvard (and you can imagine the angle the sportscasters have taken on 2 teams full of smart guys.
Leading by 18 but still 8 minutes to go so I'm not calm yet.

Yeah, I vote we still do what they do, even is it's just "make a dress" or make a collection" thing.
