For anyone who was a "Dark Shadows" fan (the original 60s show, not the remake), the new Depp/Burton collaboration looks to be pretty amusing. Enjoy: Oh my! I had a good friend who loved Dark Shadows. ALL: Had quite a day in Huntsville today!! See the details on my blog, here.ONJEL: Monnie gave me a tour of the University of Alabama-Huntsville, which made us remember our fun tour of the University of Michigan. That will always be a good memory. Your trip sounds great! No cutting edge toilets though? Harumph. I remember the tour of U of Michigan fondly. Also how Onjel almost lost her axle driving um...assertively...over the construction. Typing on my new laptop! Whoot!

Monnie and I were also remembering the restroom we stopped at with you and Lola, near the VT/NY border - that awful little gas station where we had to stand in line in that grimy garage area and listen to Rush Limbaugh? Good times.

Someday you'll have to stop by Ann Arbor again, on your way to a great beach front vacay along the west coast of Michigan. I know you and the girls would love it. I had a great time touring U of M and I'd love to do it again. Or, maybe MSU in East Lansing. ;D

Goes with being a lawyer, I guess.

Fitting went fairly well considering that 12 year old boys tend to wiggle a lot. Dinner was good and everyone went home happy.

That black kimono looks as if it takes a lot of heavy fabric to hang right. What are you using? Julia, I was looking at it and thought "matte silk jersey" but I think I've been watching too much Mondo.

Now that I have some measurements I'm doing the finishing tomorrow. Edging and trim will be in satin. I'm cheating--using blanket binding. Closures will be either snaps or velcro. Also washable and sturdy. Then I have to figure out how to do those embellishments. The original thought was to trace them then fill them with black glitter, but...I dunno. What is the consenus?

No advice from this quarter. Don't really do any crafts of any kind. Sewing pretty much stops at window curtains made out of bedsheets. Now, if you need me to figure how much quantity of something is need to cover how much area of space: I'm your woman.

I'll remember that. I'm pretty much hopeless at it.

I'd cut a five-repeat stencil and use black acrylic fabric paint on a narrow hard-rubber brayer, since you're using linen, possibly with a light gesso undercoat if you want it to move like a Japanese fabric would. That kind of embellishment would be fulled paint or ink-over-gesso in a Samuri kimono- plock print, though, not stencil, but I hate, hate, hate block printing on fabric, so easy to smear. Julia, today all my craftiness was expended on making a vented ridge for the new chicken coop.
