Thanks! Val is the one that we found; Yuri is still missing. My friend and I agreed a couple weeks ago to stop actively looking for him. She still hung flyers and let the neighbors know and I still could get a call if some one finds him and scans the microchip, but for all intents and purposes he's gone. I'm so sorry. Me too. I am still holding out hope that Yuri has just found a nice family and will be heard from.

apply as needed A question for the S'cubie Group Consciousness: Monday next, Shadow has to go back to the vet for some intensive dental work, so she can't have any food after 10PM Sunday. I will have to feed Patches at the usual 5:30AM, so the vet suggested I confine Ms S to a room with a litter box and dish of water. We don't have any room that S can't either find a place to hide, climb too high to be reached, or rampage and cause horrendous damage. Also some of them are "enemy territory" because they're in Patches' half of the house, which would make things even worse. So I was wondering, if I just pop her in her carrier when I come out at 5AM or 5:30, will she be okay for the 3 hours or so before I can drive her to the vet's office? I know she won't be happy, but will she be healthy? Also, vet says that the cats' bloodwork showed exposure to feline corona virus sometime in the last year. They aren't sick, they just have, she said, a very low titer for the virus. So I shouldn't worry, but I shouldn't add another cat anytime soon. Not that I would, as the two we have are pretty possessive, but still, one more thing to worry about. At least our vets accept the concept of indoor-outdoor cats; we have a big yard with lots of trees and grass and interesting bushes to smell, so the cats get to explore it during daylight. What point is there in having a yard if the cats aren't allowed out? Anne, My kitty Raven has spent more hours than he would like to contemplate in his carrier when I moved to and from Ft. Drum, over 6 hours one way. He was definately not happy but he was completely healthy after his experience. IMO, I think Shadow would be fine if you kept her in her carrier. We use the bathroom if we have to confine Raven for any periods of time. If you're not comfortable keeping Shadow in her carrier for so long, have you considered delaying Patches feeding for an hour or 90 mins? That way Shadow's only confined for a shorter while? Just my two cents. Use or discard at whim.

Just my two cents. Use or discard at whim. Thank you, yes, that's just what I was asking. I was thinking about delaying cats'-dinner until 6PM on Sunday, so I can delay breakfast on Monday morning, or at least wait to grab Ms Tortietoes until 5:30. I'll have to be very sneaky, though, or Shadow will figure out that Something is Up and she'll go hide behind the furniture where I can't reach her. Our house is a lovely playground for cats, not so much for the poor clumsy humans who are trying to grab them. At least we don't have an attic-library like the parental home; cats used to hide up there for hours... Also, angelique, I've missed you.

I am having another in a series of days where I spend the whole of it mending things I've broken/having things come apart in my hands/ getting out to do a task and discovering I've left an essential part or tool behind.
As you can imagine, this makes me a lovely person to be around, although since the only person I see most days is my husband and he just comes home, takes painkillers, and falls over it doesn't much matter.
Julia, one more load of clothes to deal with and then I get to plant things! I hope?

Julia, one more load of clothes to deal with and then I get to plant things! I hope? {gentle hugs Julia} I was talking to my doctor today about how the have-tos have taken over any energy I may have, and I never get to the want-tos, and she said I should consider the want-tos as therapy - if I'm having a good day, I should do one of the have-tos and then take a want-to break, and if I'm having a bad down day, I should do the want-to first, because it's Therapy, not self-indulgence. I'm going to give it a try, and try not to feel guilty that the den doesn't get vacuumed quite as often or the clean laundry get put away immediately. Also I'm going to be test-driving some Prozac. Anyway, I hope you can get some therapeutic planting in there today.
