Has anyone heard from Sue recently? Isn't she on a cruise? Yes. Disembarked this morning and staying overnight in Vancouver. More later. Apparently we hit all the perfect weather that Alaska has seen this year, including full clear view of Mt. McKinley and no rain in Ketchikan. Vancouver is currently blue sky and sunny. Landed on a lake in a float plane, took the bus ride into Denali and saw goats, caribou and bear (all from pretty long distances), took a plane up over Denali, cruised several glaciers, had a train ride, took the tunnel thru the mountain to Whittier, saw a large group (over 10) of whales doing bubble net feeding very close to boat. Never saw a moose at all or a bear close up. Ate ... and ate and ate. Good times. Jim loved it so we may cruise again at some point in the future. I am happy to cruise or just sit on a beach, but I enjoy everything more if do it with our kids. Not sure how much of that is in our future though. So, I'll be back in Nashville late tomorrow with 2 weeks of snail mail, etc to catch up on and a post-marriage "meet the new DIL" party to plan for Sarah and Tom.

My second history-of-costume-book-I-didn't-really-need arrived in today's mail. I've brodarted it to preserve the elderly and crumbling dust jacket. If anyone's interested, the two books are Patterns of Fashion 4 (because I already had the other three) and Doris Langely Moore's The Woman in Fashion. I don't need them, I don't even have anything to costume for anymore, but they sure are fun to look at. Now I need an excuse for the two books on crewel embroidery stitches I just ordered. I've been meaning to take that up again, really I have...

It's not that we need these things, Anne. It's that they give us pleasure. Like eating ice cream isn't necessary for nutrition, but my, don't we enjoy it. Well, books are like that too. Don't worry about needing them. Just enjoy them. BTW, I have this one, and today I ordered this one.

You're right, I shouldn't feel guilty, but still, I do. Probably because at least I used to use them, and now I don't, and I doubt I ever will again, which is also discouraging. Oh, do you know this one? I haven't looked at it lately, but it covers Victorian dress. Of course, the Husband has college guides going back to the 1970s (you don't even want to know) and piles of Bill James baseball statistics books, so he can't complain about my costume and crafts library. ETA: Meh. I'm hitting the down part of the mood swing cycle, I guess. I'm gonna keep my books. Maybe I'll make paper dolls in costumes or something. So there, life. ETA the 2nd: Aaaannnndddd ... We're watching Stonehenge Apocalypse. Again. Apparently it's Siffy's go-to filler movie for Saturday nights. Not that there's anything wrong with an abundance of Misha Collins (although a replay of, say, Mammoth or Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus would be a nice change), but it's beginning to remind me of our local WB channel's fondness for using a film with Danny Devito and Ahnold as filler for any occasion. I think it was called Twins. It got aired with great frequency; in fact, it became a running joke on the station's news programs, even.

I think the writers at the SciFi channel movie making machine have a big fishbowl. In that bowl are hundreds of slips of paper. On each paper is a word or a short phrase. Like Shark,Gator, Mega, twister, gargoyle, octopus, meteor, tsunami, and so forth. Hundreds of them. When they want to make a cable-movie the six year old daughter of the head writer reaches into the fishbowl and draws out between three and six slips of paper. The head writer then has her place them on the round table in whatever order she likes. The task is to write a movie around whatever she comes up with. No, I don't have that one, but I do have this one , my old standby this one, this one, this and easily a dozen more. What can I say? I love to look through them.

Always listen to Wise Woman Diane. I've been pottering around sorting things and moving things and rearranging things again today. The hardcover Robin McKinley collection has just about outgrown its basket, so I moved and dusted and moved books in the den bookcases so they could live there instead. The paperbacks are still in the headboard behind my head with the rest of my comfort books library. Also I put Arachne and her cabinet away FOR NOW, as I have neither the energy nor the time nor the inclination to work on big sewing projects. I'll get back to them, and I will find a reason and place to wear the poet's shirt with the crochet lace trim and Holbein stitch collar and cuffs once it's assembled, too, so there. Now if I could only get started on one of the little projects, so I could finish it and clear away all the clutter... that'd be great, that would. ETA: Ha. One small project completed, installed and cleaned up after and crossed off The List. Tassels for my Mexican tin-and-brass mirror. It has doors. The doors have little tin loop handles. Obviously, it wanted tassels. I couldn't find any that it liked, so I made a pair from two antique gold bead cones, gold chain and the appropriate findings. So there, life.

#wavey# I'm finished with my hospice/palliative care rotation. Spent the weekend in Elk Mountain with my family. I'm now in Casper, starting an audition rotation at the family residency program here tomorrow.
I've been looking forward to this all year, and now that it's come, I'm actually a little nervous.

Twizler sweater! Sophisticated gummy shark bodice! "This is a glue the shit out of it moment." HA!! Love you, Tim Gunn. I love him too!! I don't think Tim has ever cussed on the show before. I kind of wish they hadn't bleeped him--I wanted the 'full effect' of it. ;D

I forced Liz to watch something when she visited me, too. True Blood maybe? Did you have a nice visit? Is anyone watching Falling Skies? SS loves his aliens and skittery things. Ah yes, the torture. Good times. I returned the favor by boring sharing with Michelle what I knew about permaculture and intentional communities and tiny houses and other such green things. All in all, we had a lovely visit. With Karen, I believe it was Falling Skies and the Torchwood special. woe is me I've been wondering whether falling skies was still on. It seemed rather intriguing but I haven't heard a lot of talk about it. I wasn't bored at all! I always learn something new when you visit. Don't watch Falling Skies, but I think Tom and Lorenzo review it. That is usually a sign that the show has something good to offer. *shrug* Does anyone here watch the show L.A. Complex on the CW? I haven't seen it yet, but I read some positive things about it on Twitter. I might check it out.

Four pairs of new pants hemmed.
Wish I could wear "petites". Sadly, most manufacturers stop their petite sizing at 18. And even those that don't, seldom have enough a rise to be comfortable. Hence, the only way to have them fit is to buy regulars and cut off the extra 6 inches of leg.
*sigh*

Welcome back to solid land, Sue! I'm having a fun fun fun week, here. I'm getting over my horrible cold/fortaste of death but Franklin had a root canal yesterday and is prepping for Intrusive Medical Testing now, so I'm testing my patience and optimism to new limits. Julia, great pic of Summer Glau and nerdy discussion at Tom and Lorenzo this morning.

Today I have: Done the laundry (lots of laundry, it's still processing) Walked to the shopping center Reorganized the bedroom closet Gone through all my old journals, torn out pages with important events to put on a separate list, and tossed the remains On a whim, done a search for an obscure book for the Elder Daughter and found an affordable copy and ordered it for her, yay I'm sure there's other stuff but I can't remember it right now I will now eat lunch and then fall over *thud*
