Headed out tomorrow to spend a week in Chicago. Get a "port" installed Sept. 14 and start chemo on the 17th. Might be around a lot since I'm not scheduling much "out of house" stuff that week. Or not. Would love to type up my list of fall watching day by day. We'll see. If anybody else does maybe they can copy it onto the announcements thread of the ILOVE TV section so I can find it? Hope everything goes as well as it possibly can. Julia, stupid physicality and its discontents Right at the moment I'm far more concerned by this hacking cough that won't go away (especially sleeping in a house full of people) than future treatments.

I successfully captured and crated Shadow and hauled her to the evil Dr Forbes for her post-op recheck. She's fine, healing nicely, and can, as the vet put it, go back to normal everything. On our return, Shadow went under the Younger Daughter's bed for a few minutes, then came out to demand her treats, as is traditional. She is now outside inspecting the yard, as it's been sadly neglected during her week of confinement to quarters, and must be throughly sniffed. And about five minutes later, she came back in. Cats.

And continuing the medical front: It's official. I'm disabled. The problems with my back have exaserbated to the point where I qualify for a parking pass. However, my BP's under control and a number of other health issues are presently dormant.

Am I currently trying not to worry as the girls are out trying to drum up funds for their schools by going door to door to sell some stuff out of a catalog . . . you know the drill. They took their cell phones, and they know not to go in anyone's house and such . . . but it is hard to relax. They begged to do it, and I did it when I was their age, and this is a small town, but . . . ugh. I will be very glad when they come home.

Good. I hope they have a warm salt-water pool. Julia, that's what my back guys say helps

Good. I hope they have a warm salt-water pool. Julia, that's what my back guys say helps LA Fitness. Temperature of pool not know, but surely not salt-water. However, Jacuzzi, sauna, health bar all available. Trained trainers, convenience to house and wide rage of activities (weights, machines, water aerobics, yoga, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, various dance classes all available and coming in November: belly dance and tai chi) Best of all, due to AARP membership Bobman and I join as families and get much lower membership and monthly dues; so--affordable. Doctor's orders: NO impact exercises. Low level cardio to start. Careful bending. Gentle stretching (too many torn or inflamed or spasmed muscles) but cleared to go. Doubt I'll actually lose weight. See, when I lose more than 30 pounds my body goes into rebellion. I go into starvation mode, start craving "bad" foods and immediately gain it all back--plus more. Doc's hoping that a slow build up of activity and careful monitoring will rebuild my metabolism and prevent the backlash.

See if they have a beginning water aerobics class; it was what my friend Deirdre found helped change her set-point. Of course then there was my friend Leslie who found stationary bike and Bruce Springsteen were most efficacious. Julia, I know what you mean by hitting the starvation level thing, boy howdy do I know it.

Back from store with workout clothes. Hope they don't demand bathing suits in the pool. I won't wear them. I've never owned one that didn't feel obscene on me or leave a nasty, oozing rash in an particularly inconvenient place.
I swim in bike shorts.
