considering it was the first episode, I beleive Joss has done a good job raising some interesting questions just off the conversations that were had. I will list a few that Jumped out at me.
1. what is up with Xander and the 5 x 5 comment. 2. If 500 slayers are working with Buffy what are the other 1300 doing? 3. Is Xander an actual watcher? 4. Where is Willow? 5. What is a Thricewise? 6. Who was underneath Sunnydale with Amy?
Now I have not read it in about 10 days and those 6 are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Does anyone else have any other questions they are looking foward to having answered?

I love talking Buffy! The first thing I thought when Xander said 'Five by Five' is that he had spent a lot of time hanging with Faith. Good question about the other slayers. In training somewhere else, maybe? That's a lot of girls to keep track of. I want to know what happened in Orvieto with Andrew and his '10 best dressed slayers'. (Interesting tidbit about Orvieto is the secret tunnels and labyrinths beneath it.) And what does the symbol mean? ETA: Did you all notice the nod to Serenity on Buffy's t-shirt here:

And, I can't stress enough, who or what is Amy's boyfriend? Are the Army guys initiative? Because if they are, they know about Buffy and wouldn't mistake her for a terrorist, but they have access to and knowledge about magic-so who are they and what is there relationship to the Initiative? What is it about a Thricewise that resulted in Dawn becoming larger than life? Did the sacrificial lambs carve the symbol on themselves and summon the demons? And, to whom do those feet in the long coat belong, floating down toward the place that Buffy and company just raided? Mystery. Man? Woman?

If I can find some pictures, I'll scan them for everyone to see. Not this week, but maybe next month, after tax day.

First thoughts, before I read anyone else's.
* I can tell I'm going to both love the comics and be driven crazy waiting for each new issue. ;D
* The fact that the drawings are not permitted to look exactly like the actors is going to throw me a bit for a while. And I know that's part of the agreements between the various entities that own the rights and so on, but I wish they could look more like them. On the other hand, I find it interesting how they'll . . . . sneak in a closer likeness, every now and then. A turn of the head or other mannerism, a certain angle, etc.
* Competant Xander always thrills me. But I also loved the glimpse of "old school Xander", when he and Buffy were sitting there looking at the symbol in the library-area.
"I think it's a frown turned upside down. And then turned upside down again." "So, you think it's a frown." "A guy with a monocle frowning." "You're a terrible Watcher."
;D
Very nicely done, with Buffy munching on a sandwich the whole time. ;D
* Giant Dawn was totally hilarious to me!

I will list a few that Jumped out at me. 1. what is up with Xander and the 5 x 5 comment. It really made me wonder if we're gonna see a Xander/Faith ship. Which would be very intriguing. Frankly, if I can't get a Xander/Spike thing (and I'm not gonna outside of fanfic, I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid), that would be the one I'd be interested in next best. So much twisty past history and so on. Very good point. I'm imagining that they are (unlike the previous WC) letting each slayer decide to join them or not and are living with the consequences of that. Which makes me think of possibilities like more crazy!Dana-like!Slayers or rogue!evil!Faith-like!Slayers. Yeah! Maybe more of a coordination-leader guy? Yes! Trouble brewing there, I think. It's ringing bells in my memory . . . from folktales or stories or something. But I'll have to google it. Yeah. We didn't learn about any boyfriend when we saw her briefly in season 7, so I'm curious. Not surprised that she was trying to get in on the evil side of things at the end there, either. I'm also wondering/interested in what Giles is up to - how he is interacting with everyone now. The scene shift meant to make us think of Xander as a Watcher, Buffy's Watcher, but we all know how they use scene changes in clever ways. So I want to know how Giles fits in. And I'm excited to see exactly who the Big Bad turns out to be. The government guys at the hellmouth? Amy and her boyfriend? Other?

Loved the line on the first page! "the thing about changing the world , once you do it the worlds all different." 1800 slayers! only 500 working with Buffy, what are the other 1300 doing? Loved how they worked the Immortal issue in, Andrew is a genius! ROFL Xander, A watcher? he does not claim to be, but is he? Oh and the five -by- five reference, does this mean that he and Faith have something going? I find it an interesting comment for Xander to make. Psychics? interesting persons to have working with you. I am interested in how much of a role they play over the course of the season. Yes! It's gonna be interesting to see the different vibes with Buffy working completely with the new Watcher's Council. New resources, etc. I wonder how it will change (or not) her style of working! Heee! She wouldn't be Buffy without some angsting about the current state of her lovelife, or lack thereof, eh? ;D ;D The wait is what is going to kill me! It's like we get just a taste and then, arghh!

Jeff - I felt the exact same way about when I read Joss' Fray the first time. Being so used to a story developing on the tv in an hour, it was hard to actually enjoy the comic book format because you can read it in 10 minutes if you want to. This actually gets better as you learn to read and savor the comic book format. It takes some practice, tho. You have to ferret out the little details in the art, and let your mind fill in the action and noise. **nods** I have to get back into the mode of reading and savoring comics. One thing I'm gonna do is carry mine with me so I can re-read at the drop of a hat whenever I feel like it. He is so getting off on wearing the uniform and being all commander-guy, isn't he? ;D Loved loved loved giant Dawn. All "I could swat you like a flea" cranky. ;D Always Trust Joss.

I am really really curious on who is Amy's boyfriend that was in the crater with her, we know he was in Sunnydale, and he wants a weapons lab, it has to be someone we know , and I am racking my brain, but I am at a loss, Did Rack die, could he be Amy's boyfriend, but would he need a weapons lab? or is it someone else, does anyone have any Ideas? Well, we know it isn't Spike, because he's busy at Wolfram & Hart. ;D I'm thinking Rack. I'm at a loss for who else it could be. Amy might have resurrected him, because I was under the impression he died after that last visit with Willow. I might have to think harder. Can't be Jonathan or Warren. Not Adam. Maybe someone brand new? A minion-like person? Oooh, what about one of the guys she and Willow enchanted at the Bronze that night they went wild! ;D

He has to be someone that could be hurt badly enough for Amy to have to keep alive. So - someone 'real'. But the general called it a 'thing', so might or might not be human. He/It wants a 'weapons lab'? Hm..that does sound like it could be Adam. Amy somehow reanimated him from the rubble? OK, that would be scary! Wouldn't even have to be Adam. Could be one of the other "experments" from the underground labs that got mixed in with the underground Uber-Vamps and stuff. Or maybe just a surviving Uber-vamp itself!

Yep. They did go back into the Initiative, in Season 7. SPIKE: Are you sure you still wanna go back in this place with me?
BUFFY: Eh, nothing good on TV tonight.
SPIKE: Here we are. Yep, here we are. You think the stuff's still good?
SPIKE: I don't know. Worked pretty good when the Initiative held me captive here. Every time I'd get a little...rambunctious, the chip'd kick in. I feel like my head was gonna explode. They'd dope me up, and everything would be all daffodils and teddy bears. For a couple of hours anyway.
BUFFY: Maybe we should search for files and stuff. Find out everything we can about the chip?shelf life.
SPIKE: I'll take whatever I can get.
BUFFY: Ready?
SPIKE: Yeah.
(Together, they pull the chain, hoisting up a metal grate in the ground)
(... later ...)
BUFFY: Be careful. (RE: bodies) Oh, God. They just left them.
SPIKE: They just sealed the place off. Left everything as it was. From the reaction of the military guy who saw Amy's boyfriend and called him a 'thing', I don't think whatever it is is human. It's sure fun speculating like this! See, now that's what I'm wondering about. Something that managed to survive in the labs and then got released when SunnyD sank, maybe?

Okay. So, the "five by five" comment by Xander implies Faith influence of some kind. Makes sense, since she was right in there in the final fight. Romance, maybe? I don't see it, after the incident in "The Zeppo" and Xander's comment that Anya's approach was still more romantic than Faith's. So, I'm leaning toward a relationship between Xander and Renee, whose nerd points are accumulating impressively. I mean, did you see the look on his face when they were talking about Sargent Fury? Thoughts, speculations? Anything? Definite flirting, that's for sure. But the comment makes me think Xander has at least been hanging out a bit with Faith.

We've seen one decoy Buffy, but what of the other! I gotta think they are at least somehow connected to the Initiative. I mean, they understand about magic being involved and all. And we know (from Riley's appearance and the visit to the lab in seaon 7) that the group is not as disbanded as they wanted people to think. Which is scary, 'cuz I don't trust the Initiative. And what were they trying to do? Are others who were not there still trying to do the same thing?

I didn't realize the feet were floating down. I don't have the comic with me right now, but to me, it looked like a giant standing next to the building. My thought was that someone other than Dawn had been cursed by the thricewise. The figure gave off a very Spike and/or Angel vibe though, so I don't know. And Jeff! You summarized the questions I had very nicely. I do think the 5X5 comment by Xander is a definite clue. I wonder if a Faith/Xander/Renee triangle is being set up? Xander has always been a little uneasy about commitment. I love the fact that he's a quasi Watcher!! He was on that path in Season 4, and now that Anya has died, it would make sense that he might consider it again.

The heels of the feet are not on the ground. And they do give off a Spike/Angel vibe, or Andrew in his coat.
