I forgot to turn on the VCR---oops. (Or, turn off, as it were, so the timer was set.)
Fortunately it repeats Friday on Sci-Fi.
Had to tape both 24 and Heroes for JIm, who was out of town. So now I can rewatch with him on the weekend.
More later on others' commentary.

I'm babbling with how much I adored that. Babbling. I loved the way they took every character and deepened and changed things and yet, kept their characters true to what we know now. This Hiro, hardened, angry, still fighting was great. Loved the Go talk to you, I'm scared of me conversation Hiro/Ando had. Loved the funky timeline in Isaac's place. I had no idea President Nathan was Sylar. No idea. When he started slicing and dicing Claire I was all - no way. Absolutely awesome. And then the flying and the battle and badass, scarred Peter. Oh my God! That just kicked all kinds of butt. Bravo, writers, bravo. Great scene. OMG OMG OMG! I don't think TV's been that exciting for me since the big "escape from New Caprica" ep of BSG. And this even beat that, I think. I saw the two of them together as a commentary on how much each had lost. I can't decide if Hiro is gonna actually be the one to kill him or not, but I can at least see part of what they were showing us. Because Peter had absorbed Claire's regenerative ability, he was able to blow up and survive. The key reason for "save the cheerleader, save the world" is to make sure Sylar doesn't get that ability. Otherwise, I'm not sure if anyone would be able to croak him. Oh, yeah. Definite re-watch needed!

Oh my God! That just kicked all kinds of butt. Bravo, writers, bravo. Great scene. And speaking of Peter. The first reveal with the fadein at the bar. The scarred face. The I haven't had a good battle in years comment. Everything about this worked for me. Everything! I loved his intensity, his bleak cynical attitude. MV really sold this Peter to me. Though - exactly why is he shacking up with Jessica? (Jessica by the way has always been a bore since her first big moment when she was introduced so I'm perfectly fine with them killing her next.) Parkman as evil was just sad, scary and believable at the same time. The battle with Mohinder holding the door and Mohinder actually killing the Haitian - awesome. Well done. It was scary. I don't understand or get yet how Hiro is going to kill Sylar. I'm very confuzzled about the whole blowing up and surviving thing. But it's a good confuzzlement. This was a fantastic hour of television. I was riveted to my set. I really need to watch this again. I don't want Hiro to lose his innocence. I do want Sylar stopped. The Sylar-not-Nathan made me think - what if it wasn't really Hiro killing Sylar, in the comic? It could go like this, and please note that this is pure speculation. I have been avoiding spoilers for this show like the proverbial plague: There's a shapeshifter-illusionist out there, we know that already. So, what if Peter meets Candace and picks up her ability? Then Hiro stops Peter from exploding and taking New York with him. Or, wait, what if Claire is the one who stops Peter? She regenerates, she's already stopped an exploding man once, she knows what to do. There's your "save the cheerleader, save the world". Anyway, Peter doesn't blow up New York, there's no rounding up of Heroes, and he's available to look like Hiro, borrow the sword and take Sylar out. I like your ideas! Also, just seeing Hiro slicing him with the sword doesn't necessarily mean he kills him. Could mean he battles him, but someone else ends it. **nods** Like the epic battle we were seeing before Hiro jumped back to the present. They are definitely two mirror images. Same power but, significantly, achieved in a different way. Sylar has to kill to acquire powers, Peter does it just by being close. **nods again** Yep. That's why I think that she and Peter got together. That shared sense of loss.

Hrm. I was unimpressed with this episode - it felt throwaway, to me. Yeah, it's cool to have an ep where you can kill everyone if you feel like it and then you get to push "reset" next week, but, still. ETA: In fact, that's largely WHY I didn't like it. None of it counts. It could happen, but most of it won't, because they've already shown it to us. I like AU only when the world doesn't get reset to "normal" at the end. The one thing I loved was Neo!Peter. I begin to see what it was Rory saw in him, finally. OMG! Didn't like it?! ;D Well, actually, of course, you get to like or not like whatever you want. I liked it for more reasons than just it being exciting and wowsa. I liked seeing this glimpse of how each character might react to extreme circumstances - a glimpse into their psyche, as it were. Also, I've always loved "what if" stories. Just plain love them. Spinning all sorts of possible futures, what would happen with a tweak here and a tweak there.

I thought Lola made a good comment--in seeing what they could become, we can better observe what they are now and how their lives might follow that path. Or something like that. So, I don't necessarily see it as a big reset so much as, this is one path to the future, but there are other paths as well. That's why I liked BTVS's "Something Blue" so much. It was a lot of fun to watch, first of all, but also it played up certain aspects of each character. Giles really was blind on occasion, Xander was a demon magnet, and Spike & Buffy did have an attraction to one another. At the end of the episode, reality was reset to "normal" again, but it didn't change the truths that we as viewers observed. Ooooh, neat comparison! Seeing how Matt had changed was one of the more interesting - painful, but interesting - character developments. And yes, it had to have been a fun challenge for the actor.

I wonder if that's significant. Probably - everything else is on this show. Isn't it fun?

At the end of the episode, reality was reset to "normal" again, but it didn't change the truths that we as viewers observed. But back to this episode of Heroes, I was excited that Grunberg finally had something exciting to do! And what is more fun for an actor than to be a morally gray character? And Milo playing badass Peter was the best. It's funny though--Jessica looked five years younger than her present self, whereas Peter looked about ten years older. Hmmmmm. I'm with Pixi, in that I'm not a huge fan of Jessica. But Micah is dead? That is no good! I'd like to see some scenes with Hiro and Micah--I bet they would be fun together. Good episode. I hope they keep the action going for the rest of the season. Grunberg was great as the morally ambiguous Matt. Interesting that initially he was marked and told that he was flawed, as was the nuclear guy. I really would love to know what they use as criteria for judging them. **nods** What are the rules and who is making that judgement, eh? That is one thing I was really really wondering about. Was this all exactly what Linderman was trying to do? Or did he try his plan and it went horribly wrong (well, even wronger than what he was planning), due to Sylar being in the mix? Yeah, good question. I mean, Peter said "Jessica is gone", just like DL and Micah. But really, how can she actually be "gone"? ;D Who's got some strings of different colors and a big room? Let's get cracking!

Part II
Hero detection and a way to mask it.
DL is in hiding.
So Claire really did die in the alternate timeline, but she's alive now. And she wasn't exactly necessary to save the world, Hiro just told Peter that?

Part III
So Matt does have his own agenda. Colluding with Daddy Bennett.
The drawing. Aww...
So really, it's "Kill Sylar, Save The World."
Ando died in the explosion.
Hiro changed so much because Ando died.
Cut in one place, and all the strings fall apart.
Nathan's going to make Suresh the fall guy.
You made everyone afraid of us. I made everyone aware of us; fear is just a natural response.
Nathan is Sylar!!!!!!!!!!

Part IV
Ah, it's still Nikki, but she's just pretending to be Jessica. How did she get rid of her?
So Peter really did explode, but he didn't kill himself.
Very Post-911
All the right political rhetoric.
