This was recommended in the Live Journal of a writer I like (not the author). I've read the first two "books" of this very substantial series, and they're well written and interesting, taking off from late Season 6. The author is patently British and doesn't always get American conversational English quite right (Buffy has "tea towels" and does things "straightaway"), but that's a small flaw. It's Buffy/Spike, and some of it (not much so far, in comparison with the total wordage) includes explicit sex. he-s-no-angel.bravepages.com/7TC/TC0M.htmThis URL has the whole series, all its parts, in order. Not an A, I'd say, but a highly respectable (and enjoyable) B+.

(Speaking of which, have been entertained and diverted recently by two of the authors at "the crypt": TalesOfSpike; and MadRog ( Which is simply to say, that I agree with Nan. However, her updates have slowed considerably and given that the story is 4 long "books" (I'd compare it to cousinjean's "Dancing Lessons" in length) I'm beginning to wonder if she'll ever finish it.

Sue, I don't much look back, only forward. Sometimes that's a tedious and potentially hurtful way to be. Yes, I know you're not implying I wilfully ignored your prior recommendation, and I'm not apologizing.... Just sayin' that's apt to happen (I couldn't, for instance, offhand recall the name of the writer who'd recommended the site and work in her LJ) when dealing with me, which you so tactfully do.

Good grief, Nan, no hard feelings. I wasn't intending to say "I found it first and you should have paid attention", all I meant was, yep, concurring that it's a good read. Personally, I can't remember what people wrote/recc'd two days ago let alone 4 months. (In fact, sometimes I think I "rediscover" stories I've read before and think they are new--one of the benefits of a failing mind.) Sloppy phrasing due to sleep-deprivation. Keep recommending! Actually, I find it very affirming when someone else likes the same stories I do.

Be careful on that site. Last night I tried to print out chapters 8 & 9 from Code of Watchers and it printed the whole book, twice. Even though I went to the chapters seperately and then did the Print commands for just those chapters. Never had that happen before. deborah

It's an Advent story, meaning little scenes at W & H for the (30?) days of Christmas. Forgive me, I don't know how many days in Advent. It's currently up to 24. It's called "Who's Afraid of Red, White and Green," and it's post-Destiny. It's by Ladycat and Estephia. I'm up to the fourth installment and enjoying it very much, even though it seems to have no particular plot. Just moments.... That gives you increased control about what the final product looks like--font, margins, etc. You might try that method and see if you like it, Deborah.

First, I want to support what Gail's (and I think Nan?) said about Estephie's Advent stories. She posted door 24 today, and there's one more to go. Really entertaining story. I also wanted to post about a new story at The Order of Aurelius, just in case I'd forgotten to do so. The story is called The Bitterest Pill. It's interesting; enjoyed reading it. By the way, she doesn't update often - maybe every 4-6 months. The site is interesting, and the fiction is hard to find. You have to go to "the ink's still dry", then find the fanfic link. It's there! but it's not too obvious. www.aurelius.fsnet.co.uk/fiction.html

This substantial novelette, in 5 parts, is an alternate last half of BtVS Season 5, in which before leaving, Dru vamps Giles and leaves him for Spike to take care of...whatever that may mean. What that proves to mean is that two vampires are supporting Buffy in her battle with Glory, and one of them is a mage. It's a fine tale, extremely readable and active, with good perceptions of the characters. There are some mild suggestions that Spike and Ripper are getting extracurricular with one another but nothing for sure and nothing onstage; and Spike is still devoted to Buffy and Dawn, even if that means opposing Ripper. A sequel is in progress. www.angelfire.com/rebellion/riani1/fic.html

The surprising story I'm recommending, "He's the Light in Her Fridge," by DutchBuffy, is Slayer Faith arriving at the frigid Cleveland Hellmouth accompanied by her watcher and lover, Spike. (Buffy, not Spike, wore the amulet and is gone.) They patrol, cruise the local bars, and are generally alien and clueless to their surroundings. As Christmas approaches, they discover Willy has bought their *favorite* bar. Then Clem shows up, wanting to fill their lives with housekeeping goodness. With the help of ghost Tara, they try to recruit a local witch. Then, delivered by Giles, Dawn arrives.... A really charming, atmospheric story, parts of it R rated but that's not the point. If you want to read the shorter prequil story to this, set just after Dirty Girls (which I didn't care for as much--pretty much PWP), begin with "His Voice is Like a Mars Bar." That one's both at the Sandlot and at AllAboutSpike. To reach the recommended story: www.the-sandlot.com/fic.php?mode=fic&fic_id=1342&ch_seq=1

Have to say I'm enjoying Kallysten's latest: Bloody Soul. Interesting twist on souled/desouled Spike.
at Kallysten.net
I know there was some talk about fluffy Spuffy in a past thread (98?).
All my original recs (from way early on this thread) stand, but if you've never read Eurydice, Estephenia, or enigmaticblue they are all fun and not so angsty.
Look for them at thecrypt (yes, the format stinks--but the worst thing is no links or URLs to personal websites), allaboutspike or thesandlot.
Or IM me and I'll find a direct link for you. Just don't have time now.

Some fanfic sites: As youall know, I'm engaged in a long-term fandom project, and one of the studies involves fanfic. Well, today, I have some recommendations for sites that have become favorites of mine. I'm particularly fond of most of the sites heretofore recommended, and here are some that I haven't seen listed so far: 1. This writer was mentioned above, by Nan. Here's her homesite. This is the URL for DutchBuffy, whose His Voice is Like a Mars Bar, and He's the Light in My Fridge, feature a Spike/Faith ship. She's written some really good fanfic, and, like our own Rob Sorensen, has a fine grasp on Faith's and Spike's voices. home.planet.nl/~dutchbuffy2305/2. Gwen Raiden is my favorite minor character on Angel. She's got an amazing fanbase, as this site will attest, with a solid links section, which includes OTHER Gwen Raiden sites. Some crossovers, I note, with XMen (whom JW is going to be writing for, incidentally). The stories are good, and Katreina Knights, who's written some really good Spikefic, does a meltingly sexy job with Sparks, an Angel/Gwen fic, that'll leave you thudded. This site just has 3 of her stories. Reminds you what Buffy saw in Angel, and makes you want him to move on.... www.hollywood-ending.org/gwen/archive.htmlHere's Katreina's site for the Sparks series. Her home page, Sparks, repeats the opener (Sparks), then completes their 'ship with another 5 stories. She's written 8 Gwangel stories, and 6 of them are in Sparks. www.bewellweb.com/dknights/Sparks-Series.htm3. Buttery is a Spike/Fred site that features fanfic that's sweet, warm, and gentle. buttery.adamao.org/fanfic.html4. Last of today's recommendations is Sadbhyl's site, called, Riverworld. When Sadbhyl writes NC-17, it's steaming!sexy, so be forewarned. Her shorter pieces, like Aftermath, Persuasion, etc., are just kinda wonderful. Keep a Kleenex nearby for Aftermath. Persuasion is ...special... www.sadbhyl.riverworld.net/stories.htmAnd, that's it! Enjoy, and please let me know if you like what I like. thanks.
