Nasty Shrew has updated "Dead Sunflowers with Chapter 10: www.livejournal.com/users/nasty_shrew/11404.html?view=211084Julia, this one probably should have a sticky; if anyone's looking for something completely different in S/X, not human AU but diverging from canon after "The Gift"- this is a good one And it's done.

What? Where? Huh? OK, I got it now--you've given Dead Sunflowers its own thread. Rachael, when things are completed, their individual threads will need to come down. How do you want that handled? Should we notify you, or what?

What? Where? Huh? Oh, I see--you've freed the topics to float. As this is the updates thread, could it remain at the top, Rachael? It's easier to find there. Yes, ma'am. I haven't freed them to float, I've just been rearranging them so that the most recently updated are still at the top. Stickies don't let you do that easily, but I want to keep the new topics stickied for at least a few more days. So I unstuck and then restuck in the order I wanted. Jeez, you expect it to be safe at 9:00 on Sunday night.

And thanks, Rachael; "Dead Sunflowers" shows every sign of getting long, and it's been updated frequently and irregularly, which makes it hard to follow if you're not checking Bloodclaim as often as I do. It's also (she says, turning to the crowd) a story well-worth following, very individual in the choice of themes and the treatment of the characters- which is not to say that they are stretched beyond their limits, just that they are recognizably the chaacters of THIS story and not shadowpuppets. Julia, ick

"Protective Custody" by Nash and Cas has been finished with an epilogue: www.livejournal.com/users/nashmaveric/104426.html#cutid1In the interest of completeness I'll include the memories link in Slash Recs, but, although it starts outwith the promise of being a more interesting piece of writing than I would have expected from the authors, it ends up just another average bit of NC-17 Spander with no real dramatic rhythm nor emotional challenge. Julia, bummer

I usually wait until the fourth chapter to recommend works in progress, but Camisha finished things, and Camisha just posted chapter 2 of "Waking Up", wherein Xander has several particularly unpleasant awakenings in a different Season 4; there's a link to Chapter 1 in the author notes: www.livejournal.com/users/camisha/28692.html?#cutid1Julia, again, this is an author who rarely puts a foot wrong OH- S/X, but not yet more than them being locked in the same initiative cell

Estepheia, a consistently fine writer, has polished up and intends to continue a tale begun last September, called "No Happily Ever After." It opens in the NFA alley; I'm not sure (and apparently neither is Estepheia) where it goes from there, but I'm definitely along for the ride. Part 1 is at: www.livejournal.com/users/estepheia/442226.html?view=3378290#t3378290

Uberaeryn, who has been piffling along for a week or so writing humorous fluff and schmoop, has started another Post NFA S/A fic which shows every promise of being anything but fluffy or schmoopy. She may go down in the annals of fandom as the person who converted me to Spangel. Part 1, because, like Camisha's new story, I'm sure this will be finished, and be worth reading (PG so far): www.livejournal.com/users/uberaeryn/58283.html?#cutid1Julia, lots of good reads today!

Ladycat has something quite amusing. In "Out of Character," which spins off after Hells Bells, apparently all the females of Sunnydale have been gifted with rampant aggression more characteristic of males, and the males (specifically Giles, Xander, and Spike...so far) have been gifted with empathy more usually attributed to women. No known reason why, so far. Hints of S/X but nothing more graphic than kissing/snogging yet so I can't rate it. Here's part 1: www.livejournal.com/users/ladycat777/569710.html#cutid1Here's part 2: www.livejournal.com/users/ladycat777/569710.html#cutid1That's all there is, so far.
