Lee said she couldn't see Miss Kitty -- anyone else having a problem? (She looks fine to me, so I can't tell.) All I did was pick her; haven't a clue what the problem is if she's gone AWOL.
Don't mind my dumb posts today. I've been home sick with strep throat all week -- having gotten it from my niece over the 4th week-end (isn't that the rule about how things work with nieces -- you give them stuffed animals, they give you strep?). Never having had it before, I didn't know what hit me Tuesday morning. So now I'm "quarantined" and bored.
I could call the office and find out if anything is going on, but that's no fun. Guess I'll go read fan fic.
Bye!

Becky, I thought I'd seen that book before, so I just moseyed over to Amazon to check it out. It is one that I almost bought the last time I was in a bookstore, but since I had gone in to buy a magazine, and had already picked up three other books (also on Italy ), I decided to be good (a little) and put that one back.
I do plan to pick it up at some point -- thanks for the reminder. Laura, That 50 ways Italian Geniuses Shaped the World book sounds like it might be pretty good . . . but what about the 999,9950 other ways? Let me know which 50 they picked for the book . . .

Kokomo is Manhattan compared to my little burg. Are you really on vacation, Vlad? Good tohear from you, don't be such a stranger! But I love it here. It is such a small town I don't like to reveal its name since it would pretty much completely identify me to any lurker, and I am paranoid about that _ my boss is the sort to have a fit over my "ebulgent analysis" if word got out. BUT - I swear I still want to host a S'cubie get together next summer out here . . . things are too nutty right now with my houseguest and my son still having serious health problems, but I am optimistic for the future . . . we've got the wide open spaces . . . do you guys like to camp? Do you mind mosquitos? What about deer every few feet? Are snakes a problem? It's very very green around here . . . bugs, critters, snakes, weeds, trees . . . It sounds beautiful. I like camping in theory but have had very little practice. But I do have a number of friends who've done plenty of camping and know I'd have no trouble borrowing equipment. Just so long as I can share a tent with a S'cubie who knows what the hell their doing, I'd be good. I'll be sure to bring my field guide of Midwestern and Eastern birds, binoculars, and JM tapes. All the basic necessities for an excursion to the country for a S'cubie Meet. But ah, just to consider all the options, are there any cheap motels in the area?

Laura, all I'm seeing is the "broken link" symbol, not the picture, moving or unmoving. I have Netscape, so my views (or lack of same) are suspect. But you have to link to the pic on either Betsy's or Rae's site (I sent the pic to Betsy, so I know she has it) once she gives you the URL. Anyplace else you link to, you're apt to be cut off because in linking, you're using their bandwidth (in other words, less stuff on the site and fewer people can get at it). So they discourage linking, particularly on large, popular sites like the one where I picked up the pic to begin with.
I'd suggest you PM Betsy and see what stage the availability of the avatar is at. It needed to be bigified slightly and brightened, and that's something she's equipped to do. If it's ready, I'm sure she'll give you the URL so you can put the link in on your profile.

Bye! I can't see it either. Just so you know, I'm using IE. Sorry your poorly. Strep throat gave me the second most painful throat I've ever experienced. It was right up there with the worst which was from a case of mono. Really intense. Hope you're at least able to swallow ice cream (I couldn't swallow at all- literally had to use tissue just to catch the drule). It's at a time like this when you can indulge in icecream conscious free. Purely medicinal. Feel better soon.

You had more forebearance with your German friend than I would have. Possible retorts: 1. Since when? 2. At least the ones we start don't need Roman numerals to keep them straight. HA HA!!! Soooo funny! Procrastination attempt #39 for the day.

Lost me there, Puddin'. I do not find Crowe the least bit attractive. Just pass the Marsters, please. I'm with you, Diane. Ditto on Guy Pearce (not even cute) AND Colin Farrell. MY list: JM, Pearce Brosnan, JM, Tom Selleck, JM, Patrick Swayze (preferably shirtless), JM, Kurt Russell. (Anybody noticing an age preference?) I have noticed that if I just show James' photo to friends they don't say he's attractive (blind, much)--so I'm thinking a good part of his appeal is interactive--watching him act, move, speak, (breathe).

Honey, we've got nothing but! Actually, I live right in town, so my house is not in the woodsy area. It is just that I am surrounded by that. If it looks like I can actually pull this off, I would look into where we might gather. You can rent cabins around here that are on large properties, with ponds for swimming and late-night skinny-dipping and the like . . . It is rural. The nearest large city is 80 miles away. I live pretty close to the nicest motel in town. We are a University town, and in the summer, it is dead (since the town's population is down at least 50%) So we have plenty of motels in the area to accomodate the parents at graduation and the sporting events and the like, but it's a very seasonal need. So plenty of room in area motels in the summer. Of course, James M will be staying with me, so none of you can stay at my house - we will need our privacy.

It's okay deb, stick with me and you'll be okay. I have pictures of my first camping trip. I was bearly a year old and my Mom had started the tradition of Victoria Day weekend camping trips (nothing like camping in May!) I spent most of my summers camping as a kid, and when it got too hot to sleep indoors without air conditioning, the tent went up in the yard. Yup, camping is the way to go. I'm planning my summer vacation, I'm camping on Labour Day weekend on Grand Manan Island in my favourite campsite where I can watch the whales as they swim past and where I am often awaken by the sound of blowing whales. (For those of you who don't know, Grand Manan is near Campobello island (which is also in my home province of New Brunswick) on which now stands an international park where Roosevelt's summer home stands. Campobello is one of those funny places, that although in Canada can only be accessed by a bridge from Maine or by boat from New Brunswick. Great place to vacation. And we really have to see the whales (particularly the very endangered Right Whales) before they become extinct. Micha

Absolutely agree with you there, Becky. Yay, us!
And that being said, I have to reply to something Gail said in Part 18:Gail, I feel your pain. Imagine being a Black conservative in a poor Black neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are about 6 of us in the world, and everyone hates us (and I'm married to a freaky libertarian, we're a regular Carville & Matalin). Gail, I wish I could introduce you to my best friend, who's a Jewish Republican on the Upper West Side of Manhattan!
Laura (another fellow Republican) ;D

Hey, those of you who are posting when Faith appears -- is Rob generally around when she is, or not?
Seems to me (if he's not) that we ought to be worried about the boy. Wasn't she the last person we know he was with?
Are you implying what I've been thinking? I've been wondering if "Faith" is an alter ego of one of our more creative members. Laura, you think, Rob? Sue

My husband is a Wabash grad! What's your Crawfordsville connection? I second your not wanting to live there, though. I've spent too much in-law time in Evansville as it is. Maybe Bloomington...(no offense to Kokomo, Vlad). Now which race are you talking about? The Little 500 or the big one? You had more forebearance with your German friend than I would have. Possible retorts: 1. Since when? 2. At least the ones we start don't need Roman numerals to keep them straight. Wow Becky! Isn't it neat to see how much cool stuff the people on this board have in common? My family moved to C'ville from Eugene, OR while I was still in college. After I graduated I moved there and what was supposed to be a temporary stay got kind of lengthy (there was a man involved). I love the line about the Roman numerals - you have a wicked sense of humor!
