Laura - Could you translate your byline at the bottom? I recognize a few words but not all. Although my name says that I am Italian, I'm not. Just formerly married to a purebred. His family was not what I knew as stereotypically Italian. They were unfriendly, unemotional, but demanding of attention. I am a librarian in a poor school in southern NJ where more than half the staff is of Italian descent. Many of them are first or second generation Americans. They are for the most part warm, friendly, helpful and very pro-all things Italian and American. I have never seen a group of people respond so quickly to help anyone in trouble. One drove all the way to North Jersey to pick up a colleague when her car was totalled. Her husband was away on business and she had no near-by family. I called my brother once for help, but he told me to get a cab home. Lori It's nothing earth-shattering (well, it was for Moloch the Corrupter). It's from the prologue to "I Robot, You Jane" (S1), where Moloch is shown tempting a neophyte, juxtaposed with the monks forming the circle to trap Moloch in the book. All it means is:"Do you love me? I will give you everything. All I want is your love."
"Pray that this book is never read again, and that the demon Moloch is never again allowed out into the world."Doesn't have any particular resonance in my life -- just that it's one of the handful of places where I've seen Italian used on TV that isn't connected to "Mob hype," or where Italians aren't portrayed as stupid or ignorant -- and that's something I like seeing.

Hi - yes, unfortunately I live about 20 minutes away from Camden, one of the many armpit cities of NJ and about the same distance from Philthydelphia. Where you were in Ocean County is only about an hour from me. If you ever come back, let me know. I would love to come and meet another Jossverse afficionado.

Hey, those of you who are posting when Faith appears -- is Rob generally around when she is, or not?
Seems to me (if he's not) that we ought to be worried about the boy. Wasn't she the last person we know he was with?

Oh my God Vlad! Are you in Indiana? I can sympathize. I lived in Crawfordsville for 8 years (not that Indiana's an awful place - most of my family live there now). It's just that there was no such thing as anonymity there and it seems like you're related to half the town by marriage or divorce. On the cool side though, there's The Race. I loved that. Yeppers. Indiiana. I'm a Hoosier. The town I live in is about 65,000... it's about an hour from Indy. And yes, everyone is related by marriage or divorce. Kokomo has the distinction of being the most highly divorced population of the United States (probably the known free world!) Vlad

For some reason, I can't see your avatar. Can anyone else? Or is it just me? Also, Laura, check your email. Thanks for that article!

My husband is a Wabash grad! What's your Crawfordsville connection? I second your not wanting to live there, though. I've spent too much in-law time in Evansville as it is. Maybe Bloomington...(no offense to Kokomo, Vlad). Now which race are you talking about? The Little 500 or the big one? You had more forebearance with your German friend than I would have. Possible retorts: 1. Since when? 2. At least the ones we start don't need Roman numerals to keep them straight.

We make a yearly trip back to see my grandfather. You have my sympathies on your location. I was lucky enough to grow up among the mountains and farms of Sussex County. We used to call the rest of NJ, especially the urban counties, "Down Below."

Given the untimely recent death of Barry White, I wanted to post one of my favorite Buffy scenes, from "Amends":

I must admit Laura that I had been wondering the same thing. So what do we think? Do we think Faith killed Rob and is now occasionally posting in his stead in order to make us believe all is well? Should we send Rae over to Rob's place to check in on him? Micha

Should we send Rae over to Rob's place to check in on him? Micha Perhaps a larger group might be necessary, particularly if Faith is in a frisky mood. I mean, do you really think we should send just one person to peek in on a Slayer? Doing God-knows-what to Rob?
Nope, a whole posse is needed. And Spike! Okay, so who among the non-Floridians is willing to take a road trip to make sure that Rob is nice and safe?
Oh, and volunteers for that midnight drive there with Spike? ;D

Kokomo has the distinction of being the most highly divorced population of the United States (probably the known free world!) Vlad Kokomo is Manhattan compared to my little burg. Are you really on vacation, Vlad? Good tohear from you, don't be such a stranger! But I love it here. It is such a small town I don't like to reveal its name since it would pretty much completely identify me to any lurker, and I am paranoid about that _ my boss is the sort to have a fit over my "ebulgent analysis" if word got out. BUT - I swear I still want to host a S'cubie get together next summer out here . . . things are too nutty right now with my houseguest and my son still having serious health problems, but I am optimistic for the future . . . we've got the wide open spaces . . . do you guys like to camp? Do you mind mosquitos? What about deer every few feet? Are snakes a problem? It's very very green around here . . . bugs, critters, snakes, weeds, trees . . .

It is one that I almost bought the last time I was in a bookstore, but since I had gone in to buy a magazine, and had already picked up three other books (also on Italy ), I decided to be good (a little) and put that one back.
I do plan to pick it up at some point -- thanks for the reminder.
