As per an earlier discussion about Xander (perhaps from the Archives, perhaps it was yesterday; I'm sorta spacy today), here's an interesting essay regarding Xander's behavior in Seasons 1 through 3 in regards to Angel and Buffy, that puts a completely different spin on it outside of jealously: www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Stage/3170/xander.htmlVery good, I like it. Somebody point Rob at this one, I think he'll appreciate it. I can buy the writer's reasoning on why Xander didn't give Buffy Willow's message; it makes sense under the circumstances. I do wish, though, that we'd seen the three of them talk things out when the issue came up again. They might have come to the same conclusion the writer did. Instead, we were left with a nasty little loose end. Oh well, that's what fan fiction is for, right? I'm SO glad the kids aren't home right now - I'm sitting at the computer with a bowl of salad and a glass of diet tonic water, both big computer no-nos. Age has its privileges.

The Picture of Xander that eg used in the contest was originally from Buffyguide.com. With their permission, that picture is being loaded onto a SSS website, and will shortly be back up and the contest is continuing as it was before the temporary interruption..
On a related matter....I am reviewing all pictures on the two picture threads and the earlier picture contest threads. Any picture 'thefts' or bandwidth 'thefts' will be corrected. In the future, we'll all need to carefully make sure we don't post images directly from another website. Either post the link only, or ask Patti or Rae to load the picture on their sites for you. This will keep us from unintentionally pissing off annoying other sites.

I haven't had internet access at home since Monday nite, so my only access has been here at work, and I was out yesterday with a trip to the beloved dentist (just kidding about the beloved part).
Any way, Rae suggested I post my replies over here since she was shutting down the last thread. So my next few posts are being copied over.
Hoping I have internet access when I get home tonite. Was going crazy at home at not being able to get online.

But you have to earn respect, and while he may have earned it with the Scoobies, he hasn't with the Fang Gang yet. Yes they know what he did in Sunndydale, but he needs to prove himself to them.

Since Season 1, Angel has never been as black and white as Buffy was. There were always more shades of gray involved and that's what I like about it so much. Here we have humans with souls who are just as bad if not much worse than a lot of the demons in LA.
Just like in Season 3, when Gunn's old gang is killing demons willy nilly, not caring that they are fully integrated into society and living peaceably amongst humans. Who's the bad guy there -- I think in this one is was the humans.

As you know I'm no Bangel or a Spuffy. I do love Spikes character, but am more invested in Angel. That was one worry I did have about the reviews would be more Spike eccentrics (what this this being a predominately Spike board), but I'm very satisfied with how neutral you have kept your reviews Nan. I've enjoyed reading them very much, and have agreed with most of what you had to say in them.
Keep up the good work.

[quote}Sue:
Yes. There's been a lot of discussion here today about how it tarnishes Angel's "hero" status for him to condone (or at least allow) the eating of the doctor. In my opinion that line was quite deliberately intended to specifically address that concern. Yes, Angel let him be dragged off in fear for his life, but somewhere off camera additional steps were taken and presumably the doctor will not be eaten and will be monitored to see that he's not out eating others.[/quote]
I had no problem with what Angel did with the "good" doctor. Maybe he was saved at the end off camera. But if he was saved to be eaten at the next full moon, oh well.
I had the same feeling when Angel good out the special squad in Ep. 1.
Does that make me a bad person? Unethical . . falling to the dark side?

Sue, I hadn't noticed or realized this until Caraleigh brought it up on an email to me yesterday.
I'll have to rewatch, but if I'm remembering correctly, his disappearing does seem to coincide a lot with his emotions. I find that very interesting.

Sure Spike is family, but does Angel really know how much he's changed . . . . probably not. He's got a lot on his plate and he knows nothing of what is happening to Spike . . . has no clue or inkling so he thinks there's no problem. . . . just that he blinks in out occassionally . . . when things get quite heated.
Angel can't read minds. So not knowing there is a problem Spike, how can he help. He just goes on and helps someing he knows needs help.
Spike isn't making it any easier to be around either. If he won't tell Angel what's going on and won't let Fred say anything . . . you can't hold Angel accountable.

I think Spike is acting just as spoiled and jealous of Angel. I did this, why don't I get the same things as Angel did . . . blah blah blah . . . But Spike never showed any inclination to really work for the greater good. He was Buffy's Champion . . . not the PTB's.
